Multiple Endings

Completing a videogame may be a hard job for a gamer. Not only because this game may be difficult, but also because this game may be loved by the gamer. The completion of a videogame it can be some kind of 'loss' for the gamer. For example, I love final fantasy VII and when I first saw the end of the game, I felt kinda lonely!

Why hardcore gamers play a game until the end, then? I believe that the answer to this question is simple: The gamers want to complete a game to see how the story of it ends! If a gamer finds the scenario of a game interesting, it's sure he will want to see the end of it!

Many gamers claim that the ending of a game is the most important part of it. I believe it too. A good ending 'rewards' the gamer for completing the game and reduce the feel of loss and loneness that the gamer may have. Moreover, a good

ending can make the game look even better to the gamers' eyes after its completion.

What if a game has more than one endings? There are games like Fable, S.C. Double Agent and Silent Hill which have many endings. Even fighting games like Tekken series have different endings. Depending the actions of the hero, the player can see a different ending each time. That fact can make the gamer want to play the game again and again until he/she sees all the endings.

Everyone can make a story for a game. But in order to make a good story with a couple of interesting and rewarding endings, you mast be a good writer. I can't show how to make a beautiful story because each writer has a different way of thinking and writing, but I can show some tips about making a game with different endings Let's

start:

1st Start making a story with many sides. For this tutorial I'll use the example of a warrior who has to decide to fight the good or the evil (like Fable). In other words, you'll have to make two stories: An evil one and a good one.

2nd Now you must create the main hero. Warning though, you must create a hero that he's not no good nor evil. Let the player choose that.

3rd Full your game with choices, for example 'kill the beaten foe' or 'let the beaten foe live'. For the example game, you'll have to make two kinds of choices: Good and evil. Via choices the hero can turn into a good and respectable knight who fights evil or an evil and petrifying barbarian who kills anything that moves and fights the good side. Let the player choose the destiny of the hero.

4th This is the most important part of making a story. The end is just only the beginning! For the example game, you'll have to make at least two endings: A good ending where the player can see what happens to the good hero or a bad ending where the hero destroys the world for example. If you want you can make some extra funny endings like the 'ufo ending' of Silent Hill. This kind of endings can only be seen if the player unlocks an extra option or does something special, like completing the game three times in a row.
