Making your own CUSTOM battle backgrounds.
Hey there! Have you ever felt the fatigue of searching, and searching, for just the right battle background? And then, in the end, you can't really find what you're looking for? I may have a reasonable solution for you.
Now, this, as far as I know, will only work for VX. You COULD make it work for the other RPG Makers as long as you know the specific dimensions of their battle backgrounds. Again, I don't know for sure. I haven't experimented with XP or 2003.
NOTICE: I utilize the Mog_Battleback_XP script by Moghunter.
Okay, to start, open up your RMVX editor. Open up a new map. Notice the dimensions: 17x13. KEEP THE DIMENSIONS 17x13!!!
Next: customize the map anyway you please, but make sure it looks somewhat like a battle background. If you put too much clutter on your map, then it's going to look less like a battlefield and more like a college student's dorm room. ^^;
Next, when your map is all prettied-up, look at your keyboard. Somewhere, near the backspace on my keyboard, there should be a "Print Screen" or "Prt Scr" key. Making sure your mouse isn't hovering over the map (because this causes any square the mouse is over to become outlined with a thick white line), hit the Print Screen key.
NOTICE: You CANNOT put events on the map. If you do, they won't show up like they would in-game.
For the next part, I use PSP 7 (Paint Shop Pro), but this can also be done with Photoshop. Open up any picture editing software (besides MS Paint...lol) and then select "Paste as New Image." It will give you the screen of your RM Editor with the map the way you made it.
Now, search for your cropper. For PSP 7, it's somewhere on the left-hand side of the screen. If you don't recognize the symbol, hover your mouse over the buttons until it reads "Crop." Select it.
Next, enlarge your image so you can clearly see your map. Drag the cropper from the lower right-hand corner of the map to the upper left-hand corner. Adjust so the cropper lines are EXACTLY on the edges of the map. Crop the image.
When you're done, you should have a 544x416 image of the map you made. Save it into your Battle backgrounds folder and you should be set to use it! Just make sure you remember what you named it! Lol!
Voila! There you guys have it! Now you no longer have to search for battle backgrounds that really don't fit your game. This does take a little work, but with practice makes perfect, as the old cliché goes!
