"A Guards Tale" Review
A refreshing feel to an RPG genre
Review by Ricky_85
A Guards Tale:
This game starts out with a simple storyline with a sense of depth and progression.
The opening cutscene is very well executed and within the first scenario of text you
can see that the main character has a very believable and interesting personality.
A key feature I noticed immediately whilst I had control of my character was that
anything I clicked, had a text box with some information. This information varies,
from description of the object, to light hearted jokes and sometimes even short cutscenes.
There are no battles as of yet, as from what I understand, the battle system is still being
worked on in order to make it perfect and complete.
The quests in which you are presented with may seem simple, but they are good fun and with the humour
involved, it carries the game through nicely from quest to quest. However, you do sense a level of
frustration within the main character as he feels his sense of responsibility isn't quite what he
expected.Although the game has a feeling of light-hearted adventure, you can see that within the
characters and their roles, they will face harsher challenges later in the story.
This is a good premise for any successful game. Offering both fun and adventure as well as a darker
and more serious tone to the game. I cant wait for an extended demo of the game to see what kind
of adventures lie in wait for me and the characters.
You can see that the creator has worked hard to make this game look professional. With a variation of
customised graphics, to above average mapping skills. The houses and surroundings all match and and make sense.
Nothing looks out of place and your characters home town is very well presented with some little quirks.
NPC's: Pretty much every NPC has a descriptive feature within their name "drunken man" "bearded man" etc.
They have a short dialogue, but it makes such an impact that it gives the game a more sense of variety and realism.
You feel like these are real, normal and everyday people who you can relate to a stereotype in todays modern world.
Overall this demo/game was a pleasure to play. I would rate this 7.5 out of 10. Its hard to point out
any bad points to this demo without being stupidly picky about very small things. I look forward to the next installement
and strongly advice anyone who was awesome enough to read my review, to download this game and give it a try.
I know you will love it as much as I do :)
