Enter the Cave... Play it first, judge it later!

Review by Antifarea

I'm sure you have heard the infamous phrase "do not judge a book by it's cover" somewhere, sometime in your life.
Funny enough, we can use a similar one for rpgmaker games too, considering in some cases, games that don't seem to give an interesting look, result to be in the end. All details below...

Enter the cave has a simple and innovating, but not very detailed storyline, that involves this kid marcus who happens to be a brat who won't listen to what his parents have to say. He is your adventurous main character, who can never cease his curiosity, which ultimately leads him to visit the newly discovered mysterious cave...

Graphics on this game are 100% RM2k3 RTP based, so don't expect anything special out of the ordinary. Maps are done decently, in many of the locations and places inside the cave, but there are certain paths where things look a little bit out of place. Nothing that will really hurt your eyes, but the visuals in the game could have being more pleasant, if better looking graphics were used...

This is how the graphics look like:

You are allowed to access the menu anytime (which is the default RM2003 one) in the game, in order to check your inventory and use things (such as the bucket of water, which is needed in some situations in the game). You don't have to worry about HP nor MP, since this game is puzzle and riddle based, not your traditional RPG, although it might give off the idea of it at first...

To solve the puzzles and riddles in the game, in most cases it is required for you to use certain items that you adquire through your journey, while in other cases it involves a lot of backtracking... there are different paths in the game to take, as well items such as "ropes" allow you to connect paths that lead you to different places. I recommend that you think it through before wasting your ropes, since you don't get them as often... there are a limited amount of those in the entire game
too.

Here is an example of a puzzle in the game:

Things can become difficult and tedious, if you don't really pay attention in the game, same if you don't use some thinking when facing certain situations. So it's mostly up to you in how fast or slow you progress in the game.

The game starts off kind of slow since the hero walks at slow speed, but that can be fixed through adquiring an item that allow you to set up the walking speed... going too fast will be frustrating, while not changing the speed at all will make you take a year to finish the game considering all the travelling you will need to do.

The music will be sort of tedious in a few areas, and a little bit annoying... but luckily, only in a few, few places... Sounds, nothing new aside from the default RTP ones, which of course, are perfectly placed over each situation.

Enter the cave, is a short-but-long fun experience that you should give it a try, despite it's graphical looks and small missing things... I personally never really showed much interest when I saw the game being on the list, but after I actually started playing it, I was surprised, as I expected things not to be as exciting... which I'm glad. Check this game out when you have the time!
