U.S.G. is wonderful short game and also the first shooter RPG made in RPG Maker XP. It was made as an entry for a RMXP.org hosted contest, it won first place, and has spread to other communities such as this one as well. It is one of the most professional games made in RMXP available at the moment, besides that it's just a bunch of fun.
The game comes with many unique features not commonly found in most other RMXP games. The game includes a publicly released mouse script and particle engine. Besides that each of the 5 missions can be played at varying difficulty levels. There are 3 different difficulties: Casual, Normal, and Hard. A options menu also allows for the lowering and raising the music and BGM volume, similar to many professional games. It features a unique menu and mission selection system. It makes good use of a elemental effect system. For example in one mission it is better to use a ice element attack against fire based "invaders."
The game plays smoothly. There is absolutely no lag to be found when playing on a PC meeting the minimum requirements for RMXP. Bosses are quite difficult to defeat and prove to be quite challenging. However sometimes it can be a bit to difficult.
The visuals were impressive. The panoramas were attractive and fit the settings they were representing. Character art was impressive and draw well in an anime style.
The story was mysterious and thought to take place in a futuristic space setting. However things change as missions progress causing questions and theories to arise. Each character had his own personality and despite being rather serious sometimes, it did a good job of mixing some humor to liven up the dialog.
Overall, U.S.G. is a wonderful game. Despite it's shortness and sometimes too difficult setting it is near perfection for a shooter RPG.
