Lucid Awakening, an okay game

Review by antifarea

I have noted that a lot of the games created with rpgmaker have interesting conceptual plots, however some of them fail to meet the expectations that the majority of the players hope for... and this is mostly considering the potential that the game could reach if things are done the right way... get to know lucid awakening, a game with a lot of potential in front of it, but not yet has reached that point... and I can explain why, read below.

How the story goes... you take the role of Damian, a young boy that gets drawn into another world along with some of his friends. The objective of the game at first, starts with Damian searching for his friends who got separated from him while at the same time figuring out
a way to return to his world... as the story progresses he later discovers things about himself, like a past he was part of that he had completely forgotten, as well he still discover responsibilities that he still has pending from this past life of his. Although the storyline is based on lucid dreaming which makes it interesting, how some of the dialogue and it's slow paced scenery makes this look kind of cliche at times.
You don't have a risk of getting lost in this game, as if you accidentally missed a part in any of the dialogues, there is always a reminder from an important NPC or anything related, which was well thought.

Graphical environment is not top-notch, but okay made maps. There are key elements that could have made this a better visual experience. Some of the places, could have used a better layout, considering the importance of their existence in the story. Everything in this game is based on basic RMXP RTP... however, the specific world map layout and system setup is really old school and with
custom design, also it's well done... it gives a similar feeling of old chrono trigger in a way, which I considered attractive.

It's gameplay will be fun, at first. The battle system is RMXP DBS with some moving camera sequences, which adds a little bit of spice to it. Random encounters are a no-no in this game, in order to get into combat you must get in direct contact with monsters and enemies that roams around the player in the dungeons. There isn't a set pattern for these monsters, they just walk around aimlessly, and if by any mistake you just touched them, a fight starts... I think that making the monsters more intelligent could have made traveling a little bit more threatening and exciting. Some of the save points are really far from each other, as well there isn't much of a warning when you will encounter a boss... I would recommend making sure you explore as much as you can before pushing onward on the story... but then again there aren't as many objects/weapons/items to collect... which only results in having to level up at times in order to avoid dying in boss fights.

Music tunes are mostly based on popular commercial games that anyone have played already, so nothing new here. Some also from the RMXP RTP, as well all the sound effects from there pretty much. Some places would have feel much better traveling in them if they featured different tunes... it would have given the game in overall a more unique feeling to it.

My conclusion for this game... honestly, I did liked it to a certain point, because of the conceptual plot in the storyline... and it actually proved to be playable... however I became sort of dissapointed for the fact that I expected much more as I kept progressing... things resulted a little bit tiring at times, for the fact that there was lack of touch in certain things that I assumed would turn to be more tolerant.
