Walk It Off Review
Can You Really Walk This Off?
Review by Rydin
Before I say anything, I have to confess that I'm a huge fan of 'off' games like this one that brings the hardening game development side of it all into light. This game is one of those that will make you go 'WTF', but in an enjoyable way.
The story starts off; You are Max Filesize, the one whose become horrer-stricken with an untimely disease of RLS: Restless Leg Syndrome. The game uses as a diss at those funny Restless Leg Syndrome commercials.
"Is your foot asleep? You may have RLS!"
It's quite a funny gig, being as most people would just laugh at this. However, Walk It Off brings our whole pun and makes us experience the horrors of what it means to really have RLS. Throughout the game, you're stricken with an 'RLS Meter'. When Max Filesizes stays still for too long, the meter will fill up and Max will begin running around uncontrollably. "Ah hell, let's let Max have his fun. Let him run around!" This is all great and all, but the only problem is that, Max is always being surrounded with cliffs. Ouch!
The result of the entire RLS Meter means that you're ALWAYS on the move-- And the fun doesn't stop there. Sometimes, Max Filesize must undergo a journey to find the sacred RLS potion that could cure him. Unfortunately for the game, that's really all there is to it. I won't cut the game short though, it's got a lot of fun involved. It'll make go 'heh' a few times, and it also lets you waste a good hour of your life. You'll get to play a few mini games that are actually done quite well. I must warn, the minigames DO have their bugs. The bugs are a big downfall in this game because they'll sometimes even force you to start over or cheat your way past it.
On a more technical level, the game has absolutely no replay value. Just find the potion! I doubt the game ever meant to take the stance of a serious one, so it'd be unfair to judge the quality based on these factors. However, one thing that really does hurt this game is the mapping. The mapping is sometimes large, confusing, and plain. I remember getting stuck once on a 'fake' dead end. Angry, I started running rampidly off cliffs and I found a continued path to the far left of the cliff. I was pretty dumb stricken for a while.
Over all, Walk It Off is a fun and exciting game. The mapping and bugs will sometimes throw you in the loop, but they don't make the game unplayable. Just play it, enjoy, and take it for what it is. How many times will you get to experience RLS in such an interesting way?
