Final Fallacy Special Edition Review
The 'Fallacy' of 2K Gaming
Review by Rydin
Before I continue, please note the Final Fantasy: Special Addition is meant to be an 'easy' version of the original Final Fallacy. The game was meant to be a spin off from the original, and with worse graphics. Let's begin.. Final Fallacy, while having an age that spans three maker's lifetimes, it's astonishing how this game can still come back to make an impact on somebody. While the RPG Maker 2000 series of games were never really based of graphical aspirations, this game, like most others made with RM2K, has made its strong focul points towards other more important aspects of gaming; These aspects being comedy and--wait, making fun of RM2K? Well, why not. Fallacy does actually mean the ultimate flawed logic in which hereby renders a whole argument invalid. So, basically, this would be the 'Final' Fallacy of RM2K games.
Before I move onto the great points of this game, I have to just lay everything on the line. Any moron could just look at the screenshots and go 'Holy shiat, this game looks like crap! Are those RTP graphics?? What's with the big-assed empty maps?' That's basically all there is to this game--A shmuked up slap-togethor of a game. It's bad enough that the game has absolutely nothing custom about it, but the RTP use is horrid. Maps are huge, empty, and made sloppily. While the graphics aren't the half of it, let's look at the actual game play aspects.. ... They're not much better. Starting from the beginning of the game, you're the 'Hero' named Guy, hence hero guy, and have already defeated his nemesis and become a holy legend. Thus, you and your cliche '4-man team' are already extremely over powered! In fact, throughout this whole game you are never, I repeat, -never-, blessed with a challenging battle. Having completely rediculed all aspects of this game, what is there left to review? "This game is crap!" Well, not exactly. After all, this game is the fallacy of all RM2K games, and it does well to revel against all logic. Now that the bad is covered (for first-impressionists only), let's dive right into the actual review.
This game has to have been one of the few RPG Maker games I've actually played all the way to the end and have enjoyed it. Not only that, but this game is a 'complete' game that actually has more than a few hours of gameplay. Not too many games can say that for themselves. Right from the start, the game introduces you the over-all storyline of Final Fallacy. The hero, Guy is the hero of all the land. Bored of being the idiot ruler of the world, he sets out on a journey with his sidekick, 'Snark' who happens to act as comedy sidekick. Guy is always screwing everything up, and Snark, helpless to control his own fate, is forced to be dragged along with his moronic master. Guy's adventures lead the party throughout the whole world of good ol' RM2K and there Snark and Guy encounter RPG-like situations. You know, like beating up theives, defeating slimes, and preventing arch-nemesis's from being revived? That kind of stuff.
Final Fallacy puts huge emphasis on RPG cliches, and it has made its job making fun of every single one of those cliches. Throughout the game, I'm pretty sure everyone will encounter at least one situation that will sound 'familier' to them. Of course, until the cast makes light of the situation. =)
Mini games! If you can pass this one, then you're some crazy cupcake.
This is a demented moogle sent to crazy land. He probably gets killed in the end.
Putting the storyline aside for a bit, I would like to mention the mini games that this game has to offer. Yes! This game may look cheap, but it doesn't sell you short in the least bit. Final Fallacy has tons of mini games to keep even the most deprived gamer happy. Some of the mini games are really basic, but others can be challenging and interesting. Some of the harder ones, namely the boating mini game, have been made optional by SpoonyBard for enjoyability factor. The game accomates all levels of difficulties, and it's meant to be enjoyed by everyone and not just game masters.
While Final Fallacy may be the crapiest game ever made for RM2K, it's a must play for any gamer! This game will make you laugh, and it has light-hearted comedic feel will have you hooked for more gameplay. Sure, the game doesn't really live up to high-quality standards but that's not what this game's about, right? That would be like complaining about Family Guy for having simple animation, graphics, and whining that there's no storyline. We might just take this game a little `too` seriously and dodge the concept of the game if Fallacy really `did` have a lot of quality. Nothing can really explain the greatness of this game until it's seen first hand. So, what are you waiting for? Check out the worst, so you can see the best. This is the Fallacy of gaming concepts.
