The light of chikita, worth the try

-Storyline / Dialogue-
The plot of the story is intriguing, although well executed in the dialogues, it isn't boring actually, and somewhat drawing to the player... although a little bit of humour to the whole storyline wouldn't kill anyone. In fact it would be much more fun to go through it.
While similar stories like these have been done in several rpgs in the past, in this game you won't have to fear things will feel any cliche whatsoever.
So far I liked the story for many of those reasons.

-Field / Maps-
Map graphics and overall design is actually fancy, many different chipsets used, as well even some RTP... but the way they are executed are done pretty well.
The speed of the hero goes along with the size of the maps and the time it takes to travel from place to place.
There were some really small chipset errors which will let you walk through a few walls and a few objects in some of the places...
The background pictures used as maps in cutscenes are beautiful. The placement of the chests and NPCs among other things are well thought of. There are various places to explore as well.

-Menu system-
The menu system is based on pictures, the layout and design are decent enough and have scripts added such
as the cogwheel bars that gives it a better look. It's speed to access most functions are accurate enough and no lag whatsoever.
Almost all of the icons are RTP based, while this is not a problem, other custom ones could have given it
a more original look. The use of different facesets for the main characters, some are anime-based and others
are 3D style.
Also the picture used for the main character doesn't much relate to the charaset, and it's predecedor is a female, while the hero is a male. The windowskin and the fonts match well enough due to the colors and design.

-Battle system-
The battle encounter is random based. The battle backgrounds as well the design of both battlers and monsters have a really nice design. The looks on it as well the fast-paced ATB based active system makes combat a lot of fun.
The difficulty of the enemies all depends on how do you excecute your progress in the game, say if you are up-to-date with most equipment available that you encounter or buy, as well having a couple of magic spells would make things easier.
Level up is really accurate. Animations as well a lot of the techniques are RTP based. Although things could be more original, the way the battle is set up in
overall, doesn't really make much of a difference.

-Music / Sounds-
The background music are .mid file based. Most of the tunes match with the scenery the player is in, as well the places. However most of the music you hear are based on games such as old snes RPGs among others you have probably played before.
In my opinion, based on the majority of resources out there, a little bit more variety, or more rare tunes instead of some that we listened before, would give the game a more original feeling to it, or different for that matter.
As far as the sound effects go... for the battles and menu system, there is what seem to be a mix of a couple of system sounds from older rpgs, but well selected.

-Overall Ranking-
Although with those small details and the weakness in the music themes, The light of chikita is a well made game. It will be fun actually, and the only way you can be bored only if you don't dig the classic traditional RPG genres. There is originality in many of the things you will come across, which I pointed out before. My overall opinion... [b]8.0[/b]
