Average Game

I'm not really sure what the other reviewer is talking about with random battles. Random battles is an important balancer in the game, without them your characters cannot train, and they determine difficulty as well. From my playing, I've yet to see any so far (just got off the ship), and the battle screens looked way better than most of the screens, despite their extra work in making a new tileset, so even if there are a lot, it's better that way. Btw, the tileset is a bit messed up, since trees typically have have a glitched part where there isn't passability on the bottom, but the middle of the tree rather than partially covering your character, the character stands OVER the tree. Then other areas that you'd expect to be able to walk on top something, it covers the character, and not well, like an archway should, but a big black block instead.

I like the music, especially the opening (very Atelier Iris-esque), but if you're stuck in an area, some music can be annoying. That said, some sound effects aren't so great (the slash sound effect is a bit overused).

In general, it had some very good code (such as the custom menu), but the ordinary code suffered. This sounds odd, but I've been known to do this myself. In other words, while making a custom menu, and custom tilesets, the creator neglected some nitpicky things like adding lines at certain points, because the event passed something. So at areas I was stuck for long periods of time, with half the town not talking, including major characters, until I figured out what I was missing. This sort of thing was evident a few times during the first 15 minutes of the game, when your try to leave the town, and it turns out you can't until
you've talked to everyone. Great, but at the north exit, there should have been some kind of text, explaining why. Then, you get into a really awkward part later, when meeting Josie. She offers to pay half the fair. Great, so all I have to do is rest, right? Wrong. I go back and talk to her, but... Oh right, I CAN'T.

Not until I realize that she was lying, and I needed to instead talk to my mother to get 50 more zen. But there is no hint as to do this, or anything else for that matter, as her lines simply stop here, and don't start up until you figure it out. There are a bunch of little things like this, including the fact that the town scrolling at the beginning ends up not in the town the first scene is supposed to be set in, but in the middle of a forest.

This is why most game developers should leave the game open to editing by including the rpxproj file. It has great potential, but seriously needs someone to take an editor to half the game and do minor fixes so all the major stuff can actually have a chance to shine.
