Rinna and Mike's Fantasy Chp.1 - a sour experience

Review by Antifarea

If I were to choose between a commercial RPG that is anime-based, or another that isn't... I'll have no doubt that my choice will be the first one. In RPGMAKER, works the same way for me too... however, the difference in this case... while in RM there are some good games,
there are others that will just cause a true sour dissapointment. All the info, is explained below...

First of all, there is no introduction whatsoever... you start randomly in a house, you talk to some people there, and suddently you are set up on a quest that doesn't make much sense... you get to use mike and rina, and you start travelling to places where you must do something in each location you visit, in order to adquire items that will let you proceed further into the map.

Maps are basically empty and horribly done... dungeons are not a challenge, just 2-3 straight lines of badly used graphics and you are right in a boss fight.

Here is an example of how the in-game maps look like:

On each one of the towns there will be always 3 NPCs that you can buy stuff from, of course, as usual in RPGs those NPCs will sell you items, weapons and armory... armory that only you can buy half of the list considering the rest of the weapons are too expensive and you won't be able to buy them unless you hack your gold amount on the game.

There are no random battles in the world map, only
in dungeons.. enemies are mediocre and don't do anything else than attack you and or inflict you with annoying ailments... bosses are not challenging enough, you can just set up the battle to auto and wait about 5 minutes, no matter what, you are guaranteed to win the fight.

As the game progresses, you will gain another character, which is no one else but someone from the popular strategy game "Disgaea". While this character is cool and powerful, he won't be able to equip anything that is sold at the shops... the characters have a twisted graphical mismatch... some of them have a graphic in the battle from the RTP, while others are rips from other games, as well their faces and in-field sprites are once again totally different... there is not a single animation in field, so expect more boredom, as well expect this to be the biggest linear RM RPG ever made...

Here is an screenshot that shows an example of the many graphical mismatch in the game:

Although this game has it's major dissapointments, it also has some small good things done... such as a forest location that you must answer questions in order to proceed and get to the other side of it. Some of these questions even involve small simple mathematical problems to solve. The music, aside from the RM2k3 RTP, it has some nice different tunes that makes this experience less boring than what it already is... also there are small sound effects when the characters attack and get hit, usually involving short-based typical battle shouts, which is not bad.

My conclusion, this is a game you will only wanna play when all the RM2k3 games in the entire world are unavailable... it is obvious that this game needs serious improvement, as well the creator of this game needs to sharpen his/her skills and come back and fix all the
problems that this game has, in order to make this a good game... or I should say "a game" to begin with.
