Zelda: Links Awakening Review
Zelda: Links Awakening... a short but fun experience.
Review by antifarea
As a developer, I always had many ideas about graphically limited commercial games being remade using Rpg maker.
While a lot of people that I shared this idea with were not very fond of it, here is a game that have proven that this indeed can result pretty well if done the proper way. Let's take a look at "Zelda: Links awakening rm2k" remake, a game that is even more fun than it's original official gameboy color version... All details below!
As far as the story goes, nothing have changed from the original GBC game... however, the graphical interface of the game is based on a very similar look to the Zelda: Minish cap, which is the second, and last of the series for the Gameboy Advance console. Although this might look confusing, considering it's a total transformation from 8-bit to enhanced GBA based graphics, still, the maps and the locations of all the items, NPCs and almost anything in the game, has been kept intact as it is on the original GBC official version.
Here is a picture example of the in-game graphics:

The gameplay in this version of the game is almost the same as in the GBC game, while there are some new additions such as the medallion system (incomplete though), the fury system (also incomplete), a new original custom menu that allow certain customizations such as changing windowskin colors among other things... while in other cases there are some features that were never done... some of them were the 8-directional movement, not being able to save anywhere in the map
(instead you have to interact with a golden fairy statue), among other little details that are part of the classic gameplay you usually expect from 2D zelda games...
The speed is a little bit slow paced, considering it takes a little while to reach certain destinations due to the hero walking speed set up. This game most of the time will result in being difficult, and in some cases might make you a bit frustrated, considering the fact that some of the crucial features that help the player survive, are not available...
An example picture showing the custom original menu used in the game:

And if you think those were the only improved changes, it doesn't end there... the music tunes are arranged midis,
which in this case always sounds better than raw 8-bit music. Sound effects are ripped from older classic zelda games, and are set up propertly where it's needed.
Even though this game was never completed, still you should give this game a shot... I had fun playing this game, despite it lacked certain things and was really short, but still... all in all, it's worth it. For a greater Zelda experience, I'll suggest you wait for xfixium's improved and completed version of this game, where he has fixed the majority of problems that were present at the time in his newly made gamemaker 7 upcoming version.
