Hahaha....Engrish: A Review on Doragon Chi!

Review by eien_tsubasa

You know guys, its really sad. Very, very sad. What's so sad, you ask? Well, its sad when you play 5 minutes of a game and make more than five paragraphs in a review. Do you guys want negative reviews that bad that you would intentionally create a crappy game, or do you just disregard these reviews.

*sigh* Alright, I'm tired of ranting. As much as I don't want to, it has to be done for the creator's sake. Time to review "Doragon Chi" also known as "Persona 4 3/4. I'll explain why later...

Okay, the story. In the world of Kitsu, a race called the (and get this)Doragonsugata have slowly began to fade away. The main character, Ken, a young hero with unexplained heterochromea, just so happens to be one (and I bet you didn't even have to guess!). Apparently, he travels to find the (and don't laugh) "Doragon Chi", some power that can grant wishes, sort of like a poor man's dragonball, except only Doragonsugata can use it. His reasons for finding it is so that he caan wish he wasn't a Doragonsugata (makes sense to me?).

The story begins with Ken randomly spawning in front of his house, where he finds Sye, who wants Ken's help in defeating fiends. And when I say fiends, I mean life threatening bats and gruesome slimes. He then meets some random robed man, a vampire I guess, I don't know, who wants his blood. And after a heated two minute fight, he gives up. To be honest, this is where I stopped.

Before I start complaining, there was SOME good in this game. There was this equipment system that peeked my interest. Every party member had a sort of item bag, and any equipment they bought or found went into said bags. These bags took up a certain amount of space, so item number was limited. It was the first time I ever saw this, so I was pretty impressed. Of course, however this was shadowed by all the other bad things within the game.

The first problem that got me was the soundtrack. Remember when I called this game "Persona 4 3/4'? Well, that was because the entire soundtrack was ripped from Persona 4, yes, the ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK. And the way each song was used was just...strange. The P4 battle them was the title theme, the boss them was the battle theme, it was bananas. I don't know if the creator liked the soundtrack so much that he added it into his game, or if he hated Persona 4 soundtrack so much that he put it into this mediocre game. I don't know...

My other problem is the overall character development: THERE IS NONE! Characters join you almost speratically. I mean, yous first party member is just randomly standing in front of your house. Talk about a plot opener. And the game just randomly throws you into action, the creator's lame attempt in trying to avoid character build up. A constant problem within all of these RPG's, not just this one.

My other problem lies in the scan system, which you use to obviously scan enemies. It doesn't work. Every time you use it, no matter what enemy you use it on, it always fails, so you might as well disregard it as a game mechanic. Monsters have too much evasion, so you cross eyed character will constantly miss against enemies you could otherwise kill in one hit. This is poor attempt in balancing the monsters stats. Balancing stats? Why do that when I could just leave the stats and increase the evasion so that they're harder to hit. Genius idea, and I say that with both bitterness and sarcasm...

Alright, I'm sick of writing so here's the rating:

-unoriginal soundtrack
-faulty game mechanic
-characters with no story build up

2.5

So there you have it, a low score for a game I had low expectations for. It doesn't hurt to look on Newgrounds or Muzie and find music, insteaad of defiling poor Shoji Meguro by adding his music to this game. And recheck you scan skill. Obviously something is wrong when the skill does nothing, no matter how many enemies you use it on. Stop being quick to make a game and think before you make one. NOTE TO THE CREATOR: CHECK YOUR SKILLS CHECK YOUR SKILLS CHECK YOUR SKILLS
