/facepalm: A Review of Age of Darkness Legend of Kazarot

Review by eien_tsubasa

*groan*

I-I didn't think it was possible. Someone actually made a game worse than The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I can't...I just can't believe this.

Alright, I'm sorry if it seems I'm going on a tangent here, but I'm serious; this game is awful. Now normally, as you may know, I would start my review with some whitty paragraph, or some leaver comment, but no, not for this game. So I'm just gonna start this review.

Alright so the story begins with...nothing. No, I'm serious. The game literally starts you in the middle of the first town without any explanation of where you are or what you're doing. It just places you in the middle of the map as if the creator just went "To Hell with story, character development, or any build up in the plot. Let's just sporadically spawn the main character in the middle of the town without any hint on his overall objective. That's what the RPG fan base wants, right?"

I'd like to talk about about the battle system but its so plain and unbalanced that I don't know where to start. The main character's skill plot is nothing but double attack (for as much as I played) and it cost no MP. So I just spammed the hell out of it...which didn't matter because the monsters in this game are broken beyond all belief. Some monster are weak as sin like the Assassins and the bats, while others break the barrier of rediculousness like the sekleton soldiers or the spirits, who I might add, do a whomping 160 damage to you 450+ HP. Its completely ludicrous!

Alright. Let's be fair and argue that I wasn't supposed to be in that area, and that was wrong place to go. I WOULD'VE accepted this logic had it not been for one major problem: THE GAME HAS NO DIRECTION!! And even if I DID know where to go, I died at every turn due to unbalanced monster battles. I took all four paths and DIED EACH TIME!!

Alright, I've derailed off topic. The battle system itself is the classic FPV (first person view), which I liked. This however is dismissed due to the overall blandness of it. There no "quirk" that makes the game different from other games. Its just...boring. The only thing that seemed to be keeping me awake was the battle theme, which I am man enough to admit was okay. Other than that, the battle system is more miss than hit.

Another problem is the creator's horrible use of storytelling. Since the game gives you no direction, the story gives you no direction, so we know nothing of the characters, their origins, the overall goal of the main character's quest.

On that note, the way the creator portrays some scenes its very awkward. You meet up with your supposed rival (who's just standing in some random area of the map. I am DEAD serious). The two have an overly heated argument which gives you that "Uh-Oh! Boss battle time!" feeling. But then he just...joins you.

...huh?

What was with the random build up?! And what was it for? It had to be the most over-the-top way to introduce a party member EVER. Does this happen with other party members, you ask? Well I wouldn't know because THIS GAME HAS NO DIRECTION!!

Alright, I'm ending this:

-Dull battle system
-NO DIRECTION
-Little to no story plot
-NO DIRECTION
-ABSOLUTELY NO DIRECTION!!

1.5!

THIS GAME HAS NO DIRECTION AT ALL!! This clearly has to be the creator sick and twisted joke to slowly torture players in the most horrific way ever. And you can't even guess and check to see if you're going in the right directions because the broken as hell monster will destroy you in a mere matter of turns! But that not the real problem. I know the creator made a game called Fireheart, which I reviewed way back in the day, and in terms of monster HE HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. It's like he never learned from his mistakes at all. TIP FOR THE CREATOR: GIVE THE PLAYER SOME DIRECTION! MAKE A STORY! THAT ISN'T HARD! GIVE THE PLAYER SOME DIRECTION SO THEY CAN ENJOY YOUR GAME INSTEAD OF REVEL IN ITS AWFULNESS!!
