(An oldschool black and white RPG)

Full Game now available!

Story
In a time before time itself, a time before man inherited the world around him, the Holy Knights of Eden protected the Sacred lands from a mysterious force, known only as "Evil". Those inflicted with this disease must be cleansed, for the sake of the holy lands.

Follow the adventures of a young boy as he travels the world of Pangea in his quest to rid the lands of the rising Serpent Army. Though he seeks to avenge the former inhabitants of his homeland, everything soon changes when he befriends the legendary Knights of Eden. While the plot progresses in the vein of older NES RPGs, there are plenty of controversial twists to satisfy even the most skeptical fans of the genre.

Features
-The game's graphics are entirely in black and white.
- As Jogan levels up, he slowly matures from a young boy to a man. The more levels you gain, the older he begins to look, and the stronger he becomes.
- With each level up, Jogan learns new attack combos that are completely customizable! This makes gameplay much more strategic in nature.
- The world of Pangea has been designed from the actual thing! Yes! This means it is HUGE! Countless places to explore, and endless sidequests to complete along the way. The world also includes the lost city of Atlantis and the Continent of Eden!
- I promise the greatest soundtrack you've ever heard in an oldschool RPG. That is a PROMISE!

Battle System
As stated above, players choose attack combos with each level up. Heavier attacks will wear out your energy meter, so sometimes choosing weaker combos is the wisest choice (especially against large parties of weaker enemies). For this reason, the player must make sure to have a good number of strong and weak combos to preserve energy.

I keep getting the error "cannot open file treasure" every single time I enter the very first level; the executable crashes before the level even shows

DELUXE EDITION is out!
Unfortunately, I can't seem to submit a game page for it here. Visit the forums to find it!

Ah, thanks for the bug info! I'm gonna try and fix up the passability issues for the next release (even tho i said this was the final lol). I'm glad you're having no other major issues. I'll give you a tip though, for anyone who hasn't noticed it yet, you can use the heal skill outside of battle as much as possible, because as soon as you enter a new battle the energy meter is automatically full. The arachnids are quite tough, so if you run into 3 at a time I suggest trying to run. The rest of the monster parties in that mountain area should be a breeze.

It's the 1.1 version, haven't encountered any errors and I just finished the second town/castle before trying the next cave. Got wiped out by a bunch of arachnids even at level 8, so I may just fight around there a bit and stock up on more potions from the guy at the entrance, since Heal skill only revives 30 and the potions I believe heal 40 or 50. Anyway, no errors with the boat or anything else. The only thing I noticed was the castle in the 2nd town, if you follow the path around to the side, you can actually walk through the castle wall without disappearing (in other words, looks as if you are floating across the castle walls). It doesn't effect the gameplay or anything so it didn't bother me, I just think you may either have the passage settings wrong or have the walls as events set to "below character" instead of "same as character" for that particular area. Other than that, great game so far.

Awesome! Thanks you for the feedback!
I hope you're using the 1.1 version though, as the previous versions have some fatal errors (game crashes andd boats don't move).Version 1.0 works, but there are some awkward bugs that come with it that are also listed on rpgmaker.net if you are unwilling to dl the newest version. Anyway, the link is now here as well, and as far as I know the 1.1 version is in working order! I'm glad you're liking it so far amerkevicius! And I sincerely apologize to anyone who used one of the problematic releases.

You may want to include the Download here as well, or at least the link. For anybody looking it's currently on rpgmaker.net for download. Now, to my review. The energy system is unique. It takes a little getting use to, but it's actually fun and enjoyable as it allows you to strategize which attacks best suits your needs. The first cave was a bit intense and may require a learning curve for people used to an easier game. I think the big challenge is you are limited on how many potions you have, and if things get tough inside the cave you can't leave to heal up in town or buy more potions until after you've accomplished the cave. One suggestion may be to allow your character to travel back and forth between the town and cave as often as needed until the cave is completed, but that's just a suggestion. I didn't encounter any errors in my initial play, which was just until the completion of the cave, which is definately a good thing. You can walk through a few walls in the cave, but I believe that's intentional based on the statue's hint, and not an error. Really, the only negative thing I can think of is the fact that you don't even see your enemies, just a black screen with text. I'm not sure if that was intentional, to make it a combination of both oldschool gameboy and text based game, or if that's because you were unable to get any oldschool black and white pics, and it did nothing to change the quality of the game aside from its annoyance. But other than that, everything is looking good so far, and I especially like how you pick and choose your skills and you can imagine my surprise when I hit level 5 and gained a link-like sprite with the ability to slash.

Thanks! And I'm glad you're interested in the game! You're correct on all levels, this is indeed a throwback to older RPGs like final fantasy, and the graphics are ripped primarily from those gameboy titles as well as GB Zelda and pokemon. The game is done, it's just finishing the beta testing phase, so I promise it will be out soon. Also, there is a deluxe version scheduled to come out a couple months later, with full colour graphics and new areas and side quests! I'm quite proud of the battle system, as I believe it works very well for this type of game. I am currently upgrading it to include a class system for the sequel!

I came across this today and had to double check the posting date, because I didn't see this the other day. It's great to see people still using the older RPG Makers (RM2K/RM2K3). Although perhaps not as well polished in terms of graphics as the XP or VX, sometimes the extra bells and whistles (such as adding scripts) gets in the way of the true purpose, which is to make a game that is focused on gameplay and story. The plot sounds a bit formulaic, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Reading it made me think of a cross between the old Final Fantasy Adventure and the Mana games, but also the Final Fantasy Legend series as well. Based on the title, it seems perhaps the graphics may even be pulled from those series, although I'm not sure. In any case, These were the games I grew up with (NES, Gameboy, SNES), and still shed some of the best features for so simple a system. The one thing this definately has that I don't see quite often in even the newer games is the options to customize your characters and see them grow. There have always been class changes, but to be able to pick and choose your skills and see your character grow as he levels up is completely unique. It sounds like you've taken a complicated system and developed it enough to be simple and enjoyable. I'll definately be checking back for updates on this.
