------------------------------------------------
Many years ago, man created the 8 Elemental Swords, the keys to controlling the forces of nature. These blades and their wielders, The 8 Swords, created a new era of peace that had not been seen for centuries.

However, a man named Malcolm strong, one whom was unhappy with these prosperous times, created a secret empire within the uncharted regions of the ocean: The Armstrong Empire.

On a dark day, Malcolm and his army declared war against the world, and began his invasion from the sea. One by one the nations of the world fell helplessly to the Armstrong Empire's forces.

When the 8 Swords Intervened, the tides turned...

...Untill one of the 8 Swords, the wielder of fire, fell in the midst of combat.

If one of the elemental swords was without a wielder to channel it's energy, the force within the blade would release itself, causing mass chaos and destruction on a global scale. So with one of the elements now without a wielder and out of control, the remaining swordsman locked away their weapons into their temples to prevent world's self-destruction.

With none left to stand in his way, Malcolm continued to conquer the world. Within his borders, he declared swords illegal, preventing any chance of a possible return of the 8 Swords.

To this day, the Armstrong Empire continues to advance it's attack, while the people who suffer pray for a happier future...

...Meanwhile, in a small village outside of the empire's control...

...A swordsman's Tale begins...
-----------------------------------------------

A Swordsman's Tale is a traditional, adventure RPG game.

The story is about a young man named Tyson Aliburn who's goal in life is to become a swordsman and leave his home village of Mosswood. However, he is unaware of the chaos and torment taking place throughout the rest of the world: The Armstrong War.

Soon, he and his friend Calcifer are forced into a massive conflict of life and death. Tyson must battle the armies of the evil empire, travel across the planet in search of the 8 Swords, and
discover his true calling...

I hope you will enjoy this small taste of the big things to come. Right now, the game only covers the first arc, but it still demonstrates the game very well, I think.

So, I now present to you the demo that took me 2 Months to develop:

A Swordsman's Tale: Demo 0.1

Announcement: I have submitted AST Demo 0.1.2, so it should be up and running soon.

If you are reading this, check and see if it has been displayed. If it has, then don't waist your time here.
This demo has been outdated.
Steve1993 (Sun, 21 Sep 2008 16:23:23 -0700)
Announcement: New 0.1.2 Screenshots have been posted up in the development topic! Check it out!
Steve1993 (Wed, 10 Sep 2008 13:02:58 -0700)
Chipley: You can find the UMS in the RRR Script forum.

Saturniknight: The caterpillar script is included in Blizzard's "Tons Of Add-Ons" script.

Also, 0.1.2 is coming along fine, but it may be delayed some. Possibly until next week. Please be patient, though, and keep an eye out for it!
(Notice: 0.1.2 is basically the same demo, but with additional features and bug and grammar fixes.)
Saturniknight (Wed, 10 Sep 2008 12:02:08 -0700)
I played it and I only have one complaint... The demo's too short!!! Great job and I can't wait untill the next demo. BTW, where did you get the catapillar script?
cipley (Tue, 09 Sep 2008 23:50:20 -0700)
where did you get one?
I wanna try it...
Steve1993 (Tue, 09 Sep 2008 15:01:44 -0700)
I used Ccoa's Universal Message Script.
It can do all sorts of things with the game text! You might want to try it out.
cipley (Tue, 09 Sep 2008 08:32:16 -0700)
one question
how did you show the character's face??
I can't do that in my project...
Steve1993 (Sat, 06 Sep 2008 15:55:30 -0700)
Actually, I intended to start hiring people once 0.1.2 was released. I really could use some help with this project! (If you have any ideas or suggestions right now, I'd love to hear them.)

For now, though, all I have is the main topic in the Work in Progress section. (I really need to update it one of these days...)

Also, AST seems to have received it's first review!
I was a tad short, but hearing that the project has potential is very encouraging.

I hope to have 0.1.2 released by next week, as well, so I hope you are all looking forward to that!
Omegas7 (Thu, 04 Sep 2008 16:23:03 -0700)
Hey by the way.
Did you got a topic in the forums or a page of this game developing? I'm curious and feeling of helping out somehow Smiley.
Steve1993 (Thu, 04 Sep 2008 13:46:34 -0700)
Thank you for your comments, everyone.

Also, a bit of news: AST Demo 0.1.2 is being processed right now. It will replace this demo completly.

I will not go any farther into the story, but it will have many fixes and improvements, so there should be no more problems.

Please look forward to it, as well as AST Demo 0.2!

I played it all the way through and while I enjoyed the story and the mapping looked nice I did find a few bugs. The get 500g for food quest doesn't disappear and some of the text runs out of the boxes. 3/5 solid
Omegas7 (Tue, 02 Sep 2008 19:46:39 -0700)
Well I have tried the game.
Only started it.

Until now I can say that it is pretty of a great game.
The scripted look of the menu looks excellent.

The inside mapping of the first building seems pretty well, but looking in depth you can see that the formation of the walls inside the building seems a little of a maze.

In conclusion for the start of this game is...
4/5 pretty well designed keep going man good game.
Steve1993 (Tue, 02 Sep 2008 13:15:18 -0700)
The title with the sword is still experimental.

I just needed something simple. (I know it doesn't look the best...) Hopefully I'll improve it with the next demo or some sort of update.
Omegas7 (Mon, 01 Sep 2008 20:50:00 -0700)
Hmm I am downloading it now.
By the way, the game looks pretty good, but
in the principal picture, I don't really like the sword
below the game name lol, looks pretty... Not common.

But, the game looks pretty good and I am going to try it, thank you!
Steve1993 (Mon, 01 Sep 2008 07:11:17 -0700)
Um, it already is on Megaupload...

I created 2 download sites.
RawGreen (Sun, 31 Aug 2008 21:04:07 -0700)
can you upload the demo at 4shared.com? The one currently,....it doesn't work for me, I don't know how it works...(or just tell me how to work it). otherwise put it on megaupload, It'll be more available.
Steve1993 (Sun, 31 Aug 2008 16:54:13 -0700)
I have a simple announcement.

I've set up a second download site now, so that in case one site is down, you could try the other.
However, if you could download the game from the second site (Megaupload) I'd appreciate it. It'll make it easier to track downloads here in RRR.
eXisentZ (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 14:59:48 -0700)
its a very good game,i tried it and the first thing i was thinking on was "wow this is better than that i can make" and it is better than i can make much better
Steve1993 (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 12:54:40 -0700)
Are you referring to the text speed in the intro sequence?
If you are, then I can slow that down a bit.
majkac (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 12:37:42 -0700)
The beginning kinda reminds me of Wild Arms.
Generally the game looks quite good except one thing,
the text speed makes me furious when I play the game. :/
Steve1993 (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 08:50:08 -0700)
Ok, I think I've solved the problem. (Wow... That was fast...)
Anyway, the event that was causing the glitch had been a last minute addition to the demo, so that's why it was overlooked.

Still, the game should work now. Thanks, Basiliskeye, for pointing this out!
Steve1993 (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 08:49:19 -0700)
Ok, I downloaded the game and there is something wrong.
I'm sorry about this... I'll fix the demo and post once it's been updated.
chorrol (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 08:28:33 -0700)
this game looks very promising.
i will test it out later.
Basiliskeye (Sat, 30 Aug 2008 00:35:14 -0700)
Not sure what the deal is, but every time I try to walk out of the house it throws me back in bed.
