Yeah, I suppose I could've made it more obvious. tongue.gif
Sailerius
This week’s screenshot is from early into one of the new Act III scenarios, an ending route called Reprieve.

I’m also happy to report that Act II has now gone into full beta, so all that’s left is to finish touching up Act III. Most of the work to be done with Act III involves adding new content, which is a lot easier than revising old content! Look forward to more updates in the near future.
Hirei
I have no idea what I was missing when i didn't play VS when it first came out ;_; Just played through Act II and will probably run through Act III when I can.

So. Good.
Sailerius
Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been at work responding to bug reports for Act II. Hopefully, progress on Act III can resume soon.
Adrien.
My thoughts:

Sailerius Your game is amazing, no one can say other wise. How ever I have one thing to point out, from your screen shots the first two look a bit bland, empty, lifeless, dead. Maybe a bit more stuff, people, objects, life, nature, what have you? I have not played the game my self so my judgement is coming from the screen shots posted in the OP.

Your story wins the award, so does your characters, Very compelling.

Your game is amazing and I support it. biggrin.gif

Keep up the good work.
Hirei
Adrien.: The first two screenshots I see are fine. One is a BATTLE screenshot, the second is of a room. It's near the EDGE of a room so therefor it naturally won't be full of items. The battle screenshot well I think it's full of life.

Bloody Hell! I don't actually play RM games that often but this one has had me glued to my laptop! Just finished Act 1, downloading act 2 now biggrin.gif
Only down side is I never managed to harvest or find anything, but that's why I appreciate act 2 being able to pick up where the last save left off, 'cause it means I didn't waste all my skill points laugh.gif

I'm glad you're enjoying it! If you liked Act I, then I can guarantee you have a pleasant surprise waiting for you with Act II. That aside, the skill system from Act I was kind of broken so it was removed in II. Sorry!
Sparrowsmith
I noticed mellow.gif Played through all of Act II in the same night, forget everything I said about Act I, Act II makes act I look feeble by comparison ohmy.gif I had to spend hours searching for my socks after they were knocked off.
Sadly, I haven't had time to start on Act III yet, but rest assured I will finish this trilogy!

I only have one (albeit small) criticism. When I first came across the demons, I went to the trouble of killing them all to level up. This put me at a slight advantage for the rest of the game, which seems odd considering how easy it was to do. I played on veteran I believe, so I expected it to be slightly harder. This pretty much meant I could win any battle for the entire rest of the game on my first try, which slowly allowed me to stock up on items that I never needed to use.
I don't know why this bothered me. I typically train my characters to the point where they're gods in games, I just expected veteran to be slightly harder. If there's still difficulty options in Act III then I may go for the hardest difficulty.
Sailerius
Really! That's the first time I've heard that. Most people complained that the game was much too hard, so I was actually planning to push down the difficulty.
Sparrowsmith
I might be a bad test for that then. Me and my brother used to play FF games to a ridiculous extent (able to kill bosses in one hit) so I might have just trained to much.
That or I'm unbelievably good at this laugh.gif

Downloading act III now.
(The two links on the OP are broken, but I went to the websites you linked and found an alternative download)
Sailerius
Gack, thanks for the heads up. Fixed now.
Ganonfrog
Fix the broken screenshots on the first post, you fool! You're a disgrace to our game.
Ugaki
Well, firstly, congratulations on being the person who made the first ever game I have ever played in my lifetime.

Secondly, I am only starting out in Act 1, but I have enjoyed the game so far although sometimes it is easy to get lost in the game levels for me. Being new to game playing I often forget to check every piece of a map so without exact directions I spend an hour wandering around trying to understand where to go. sweat.gif Your characters are well-written and I enjoy watching them in the situations of the game story. They feel and act like real humans and they are very diverse.

I also enjoy the atmosphere of the game for as long as I have played. It brings on me some sort of doomsday feeling; It feels like danger and destruction is looming heavy around the corner. I was afraid for the main character who had to be escorted at night because I knew something was about to happen to her; I could feel it. The music sets a mood too and enhances the experience.

I can't truly comment on the game-play as much because this is my first game and I have nothing to compare it to, but I did have fun with the side quests and the battles for the length of time I've been playing. I think the idea of switching game-play between the main character and the dark group was brilliant. Well I'll continue to play this and let you know my thoughts as I go further into the game.
Sailerius
Thanks for checking it out! I'm glad you're enjoying Act I. Act I is really, really out of date and kind of bad compared to the latter two episodes, so if you're enjoying it now, I'm sure you'll love the rest of the game. How far along are you?
Sparrowsmith
wow, just realised I completely forgot to say how I found Act III... Well long story short it was bloody incredible. Played it through twice, got pretty much every ending (unless there's a secret third one... which would make sense) and generally found it all to be amazing.
Might go play it again actually...

The main character was shot and killed, and had been given another chance at life. I saved after coming back to the living world, where she found herself transported halfway across the world from her hometown, and haven't had a chance to continue yet.

Glad to hear it! There are a total of five endings in Act III, counting the bad ends which were
bad ends
Losing to Darxinger and failing to recruit Laaik

Which endings did you get? Most likely, the one you didn't get was Relinquish, which is the most non-obvious to get.

Ahh, okay. There are a few battles coming up which are really difficult on account of poor balancing, so if you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask for help. Luckily the difficulty is more consistent after Act I.
Sparrowsmith
No I got the two real endings (standard and perfect) though I did also get the Darxinger one first time through (second time I kicked his ass half way out of my laptop). I've beaten everyone in the arena thing as well (except for Darxinger, I click on him and for some reason it won't let me fight him. I'm guessing I have to beat him again in the actual game for a second time before it will let me, or something like that.)
I've also unlocked the final awakening attack thing (haven't played in ages, forgotten the names for things).

Pretty sure I've done everything apart from figure out all the little easter eggs...
Sailerius
The two other endings aside from the main one (Return) are:
endings
Remission: On a New Cycle, talk to Rayonne after saving Vel to unlock a new town. Going there takes the plot in a new direction.

Relinquish: Fail or refuse to save Vel.
DeadS0L
The graphics is beautiful ... Who the artist? smile.gif
Sailerius
There are quite a few artists. The portraits in the game were done by Salice ( http://crossexe.deviantart.com/ ) and some other illustrations were by Lauren Pehnke ( http://flitephoto.deviantart.com/ ) and Kate Holden ( http://darthmongoose.deviantart.com/ ). The sprite work was done by Ganonfrog ( http://worldofpaper.deviantart.com/ ).

Hmm, I have never seen so many artists in one project ^ __ ^
Sparrowsmith
oh I didn't get Relinquish. Is it worth playing through the game again to do?
Sailerius
Probably not for it alone. Maybe check it out when the Complete Edition is released.
Sparrowsmith
will do thumbsup.gif When should that be?
Sailerius
Eventually.
Night5h4d3
I like that wording XD. Looks like an epic game, I think I may wait for the complete edition though.

New wallpaper to celebrate a year since Act III's release!

DeadS0L
Cool wallpaper! sweat.gif
Hirei
Someone looks badass! ;D

Liking the design!
Ugaki
I made a sketch of Auria's face. But it will become a full scene later after my assignments for my own game. I have not got to play much further into the game enough to give more comments, but I will very soon.

Sailerius
Looks awesome! Thanks for the thought. smile.gif

If you liked Vacant Sky, consider checking out Ars Harmonia, a new web original set in the same universe.

Been awhile since i played an indie rpg but a few people i know told me to give this game a try
as its really good, so i just started it and so far its really impresive, love the art work and custom graphics.

Wanted to ask a question though, is there a version available without the voice acting?

Unfortunately, there isn't. The only voice acting occurs in the very beginning of each act, though.

The second movement of Ars Harmonia has just come to an end. For those who are new, it's a series of short stories set in the Vacant Sky universe. You can check it out here: http://www.projectbc.net/arsharmonia

Presently, AH is on hiatus while I work on the third movement (and other projects!). To accommodate for the lack of an update this week, here's a reference sheet of the white-haired woman:
bulmabriefs144
Hey, I was wondering, could you write a general (no spoilers or sidequests, we don't want people solving everything) walkthrough on Vacant Sky? I got to Act 3, and then I'm pretty much at a loss. I talked to the people in the town that was originally hosts to the Virad, including the priest and one of the characters you're clearly supposed to get, and he wants some item. And I'm kinda stuck, as I don't remember the details, just the main plot.

Well hey, my second post.
Go to a save point, go to your soul area, head straight and activate the book.
Sailerius
Once the Complete Edition is finished, a complete walkthrough will be written. Are you still stuck somewhere?

In other news, I'd like to slip this under the door...

Three years have now passed since the first release of Vacant Sky Act I, the first work by Project BC. Since the completion of Vacant Sky Act III, we've started to branch out with some smaller, experimental titles. Finding Eden, an action/adventure microgame was released over this past summer as well as The Vestibule, a mystery visual novel. Although these smaller titles have been fun experiments that let us try new things, some fans have expressed concern about the radio silence regarding our major projects. Today, on the anniversary of Vacant Sky's first release, I'd like to alleviate those concerns with some announcements. Without further adieu, let's see what's in store for the coming year!

The World Is Made of Paper Demo II
A visual novel titled The World Is Made of Paper, written and illustrated entirely by ganonfrog, has just released its second demo. The game is an atmospheric, psychological adventure and is a great thrill to play. Check out the updated demo and let us know what you think! http://rpgmaker.net/games/2954/

Vacant Sky Volume 1: Contention Complete Edition
I'm pleased to say that Act I and Act II of Contention Complete are now finished and most of Act III is finished as well, save for the new content. Although adding the new content and conducting testing will take some time, the game is coming along smoothly and I hope to make it available soon. However, a public beta of Act I+ has been released. Feel free to offer your feedback!

Ars Harmonia
If you haven't been staying up to date, Ars Harmonia is a series of short stories set in the Vacant Sky universe. These stories expand upon concepts of the world introduced in the games, with a focus on demons and enchantment and the way they interact with the world. Following the completion of the second movement, it has been put on temporary hiatus while the third movement gets ironed out. That will soon be coming to an end! Look forward to the launch of Ars Harmonia's third movement, Crossing the Line of Isolation, on April 2nd!

For those who haven't been keeping up, check it out here: http://www.projectbc.net/arsharmonia

That wraps it up as far as updates on existing projects goes. However, it would be a bummer to celebrate the anniversary of Vacant Sky without at least announcing something new. Now I'd like to unveil a new project that we've been working on behind the scenes for the past couple of months. I've been sitting on this announcement for a while as we've been working away. It's been very hard to keep it a secret! And now that I've held you in suspense for long enough, I would like to finally announce Project BC's next title.

Set two thousand years before Act I and the story of Auria Edith, Vacant Sky: Awakening tells the tale of Dakura Maladorr, the founder of the original Virad and Orka's first Black Knight. Take on the role of history's most notorious tyrant and leave a trail of destruction in your wake as you fight to protect the end of the world later this year. For screenshots, character bios, and more info, check it out here: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=55756

***

That brings an end to this year's Day of Contention announcements. Thanks to all our friends and fans who have been so supportive for these past few years! I hope you continue to enjoy our projects. Please look forward to another great year for Project BC!
