So, I've always had a lot of trouble coming up with storylines and following through for my games. I've only ever finished one game, and it was awful. Just now I've decided that I'm going to put a rest to actual game development for a while.
Instead, I'll be doing kits. A kit is basically a custom menu or battle system that people can use, modify, and incorporate into their games. Users will just need to open up the kit in RM, and start their game using it, or copy the code into their pre-existing game. The kit will include instructions on use and how to customize and personalize it.
Example:
I make a radial menu system kit. Someone downloads it, and starts a game using it. They can use any of my pre-made skills and items. There would also be instructions and resources to allow the user to create their own items/skills/whatever is needed.
---
So, now that you get the idea, please feel free to request a kit for your game.
NOTE: I only use rm2k/3 at the moment, because I don't know rgss.

HeroOfHylia you might just be on to something here. I'd say "PM me if you need help," but I'm not much help. T.T I made myself sad *goes outside*

Yeah, this will be nice. We already have a few on the main site, like the Name Generator Cynon made a while back. It's in the Tutorial section. Anyway, maybe you can start off with something easy; like a Day and Night system with a couple of neat features here and there.

Hyla, not
Hylia. It's a long story involving runescape having a length limit on names.
Wait, that was the whole story
Well anyway, I'll get started on a day and night system post haste!

I dunno, Day and Night is very very common in RM2K/3 tutorials. I can bet that a google search for it will lead to enough day and night tutorials to leave them happy.
Maybe a simple character selection thing using pictures could be good.

Yeah, true. I wanted for him to start him easy though, and move on to more complicated stuff. (And so I can add the day and night to the site, because I don't want to take it from another site.)

I just got through the very basic parts of the day/night system. Everything works, I just need to make the screen tints look better, because I can't find a good tint for dusk.
What other features do I need, like dynamic weather, etc.?

Blorg. I tried the day and night system (finally). It was pretty good, and the screen tones were decent. The night screen tone is always hard to get.

Can't wait for the party selection system; it'd be great for people who want some custom systems into their games. Now my next question: How would I add these to the site... Under what category... Tutorials and Examples?
HeroOfHyla
Jan 1 2008, 10:49 AM
Well, Ultima Island has these kind of things under "Starter Packs" but Tutorials and Examples should be fine.

The Party Switcher kit looks excellent. I'll get that as soon as possible - I definitely want to use that in my game.
Does it allow you to "lock" certain characters to a party, so that you cannot remove some particular characters, but can remove others?
HeroOfHyla
Jan 7 2008, 11:19 AM
I hadn't thought of that! I'll figure out a way to implement that in the next release.

I have a few requests, but I don't mind if it isn't possible to do.
1. Quest log? As long as I can view current quests and show completed quests, it doesn't matter how it's done really.
2. Reputation system? Similar to WoW I guess; like a experience bar going up each time the variable goes up.
3. Attribute distribution system? Like in Diablo, when you level up you get a certain amount of attribute points and the player can distribute the points in however they want. (attack, defense, intelligence, etc.). HP and MP would grow automatically though.
These would be picture based, ofcourse, so I wouldn't have to use message boxes for the most part. Using dialogues to explain stuff (like a quest) I don't mind, but displaying the stuff seems to trouble me the most. Tell me what you think!
HeroOfHyla
Jan 9 2008, 08:34 PM
Well, I haven't played WoW, so you'll have to go into more detail in how a reputation system would work. But the other two ideas seem pretty easy, I'll get on them this weekend or at school.
HeroOfHyla
Jan 12 2008, 11:23 PM
Quick questions for SeeYouAlways:
With the attribute distribution one, how many points does the character get per level? Is it a fixed value or do you get more at higher levels? Also, is this for a single character, or are there several? If the latter, how many characters?
SeeYouAlways
Jan 12 2008, 11:51 PM
I don't think you should make it specifically for me, but for general use. I'd say 5 points for every level is good, but you should provide instructions to the user so they can customize it for their use, whether they want a fixed value or a gradually increasing level. Also, I have 15 characters in my game - so maybe you should make one template for a character and allow the user to customize it to how many characters they have.
Thanks!

Either you start a new game starting with the kit (load it on RPG Maker 2003), or copy the events and other stuff involved included in the kit and paste it into your game.

After I finish the attribute distribution kit, I'll move on to the quest log. After that, I might do a Conditional Turn Based Battle System, though it might take a really long time.
HeroOfHyla
Jan 17 2008, 07:49 PM
I've already got the attribute system all laid out in my brain, and the quest log will be pretty easy to make. So now I've been considering how a CTB battle system will work. I came up with something awesome the other day, and I've been working the kinks out.
So I have two quick questions.
First:
What should I do in a CTB if it becomes 2 characters' turns at the same time? Should I randomly choose one to go first? Should I use the one that has a higher agility (assuming the reason they're going at the same time is because of the amount of delay their last action created)?
Second:
Is there a simple way to have a CTB determine who is the fastest? All I can think of now is to check each person against every other person. EG: If hero 1 is greater than hero 2, then if hero 1 is greater than hero 3, then if hero 11 is greater than enemy 1, then actor1=1. Is there a simpler way using some math formulas or something that I'm not aware of?

I tried using the Party switcher kit on my new project, but why is is that the load file of the kit is not found? and how can i use my own facesets?
HeroOfHyla
Jan 23 2008, 06:08 PM
What do you mean the load file?
And to change facesets:
1. Divide the face set into 16 individual faces, named face1.png, face2.png, etc. to face16.png. They have to be in 256 color mode and 48x48 pixels. Use these to replace the existing faces in the "Kits\Chara Select\Party Switcher Kit\Picture" folder
kyle1234lee
Jan 23 2008, 08:48 PM
yeah I already made my own facesets, tnx, but i still can't seem to load any events from the kit, because the load file is not found.....what I mean is when I choose open at the toolbar I can't find the file Partyswitcher kit. oh and tnx for making the attribute kit, it makes my project more interesting... and I appreciate your work
SeeYouAlways
Jan 24 2008, 12:57 AM
Make sure the Party Switcher Kit folder has all the sub folders in it. What I mean by that is, I think your folder is arranged like this:
PartySwitcherKit\PartySwitcherKit\Project Folders
When it should be like this:
PartySwitcherKit\Project
Hope you get my drift... Heh.
kyle1234lee

Click where the red box is to choose a destination to look in for the file. It usually defaults to C (or whatever you called your HD):\Program Files\RPG2003
Change it to wherever you saved my kit, and if it doesn't show up, go in one sub-directory deeper.

A few things:
SeeYouAlways, are you going to put the attribute system on the main site? You don't have to, but the other 2 are, so it would make sense.
The quest log is coming along fine, it will just take a while, because I hand letter the messages.
So, after I finish the quest log, what do people want next? I *might* possibly consider a Conditional Turn Based battle system, but the attribute distribution system was SO GOD DAMNED TEDIOUS, and the CTB would take even longer.

If you still are taking requests, could you possibly upload a kit that allows me to customize the face graphics shown in battle as in the fan game Balmung Cycle? Thanks

I'd request the reupload of Party change and please, tell me how I download from that site...
Also, if these kits are done via events and common events, then maybe they could be adapted to other versions. This is a great work you're doing. :3
I wonder if I could use your help later in my project, when we need to create the game events :3

Will do! I'll post the link when I've done so.

It might be hard to adapt these kits to other RMs, simply because XP and VX aren't nearly as event-centered as 2k3. Events also tend to cause more lag in XP than in 2k3.

It's possible. I have a couple of my own projects I'm working on, plus title screen requests and I'm making face sets for someone. So if I can manage all of that plus school, I can probably help you.
