Full Version: OUYA!

Have people heard of OUYA? It's a console that runs android-based games on the Tv with it's own controller. And it's open source, which means ANYONE can make games for it and put it on their market (well, anyone who knows how to make android apps). Some big names have already pledged titles, including - wait for it - Square-Enix's Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy 3. And best of all, it only costs $109 - waaay less than any console in recent years.

Anyone else excited about this? I bought a book on the basics of android programming but it was above my head. I was able to set up Eclipse, run an emulator and write a "Hello World" app, but that's as far as I got. I have taken one introduction to computer programming class and followed tutorials on RRR so I'm sort of familiar with Ruby, but that's the extent of my programming knowledge.

Yeah, I remember hearing about this through my over-enthusiastic brother, lol. (He has created many social and mobile game apps.)

I thought it sounded interesting, but I think it's untapped as of right now. Hoping it gets a lot more attention soon, but not enough to be bought out (don't want to lose that open source quality). =]

I think it will be pony

I really don't see how this is relevant - Sparrowsmith

I've heard about this OUYA console but I don't think I will buy it. I find it too similar to an Android smartphone.

I've kept my eye on this for some time now. I'm looking forward to getting one just to crack it open and see what I can do to it from a developer's perspective. Hopefully we don't get disappointed happy.gif

Its about as powerful as any high end smartphone on the market right now. Maybe a little better. From what I understand it has a Tegra 3 Quad core and 1gb ram.
