Alright, I have been wondering lately, I'm curious to know what anime do you people watch, and what manga do you like to read. Personally, I am still on the Bleach anime and manga (episode 20 and manga chapter 494), but as soon as I'm done with that I will go to my one-shots first then work my way up completing the smaller ones first.

So what anime and manga do you like?

I'm a fan of those "thriller" style anime's like death note and code geass (my two favorites).

I also like mirai nikki, un go, guilty crown, blue exorcist, and beelzebub (too funny). I used to be a big one piece fan (and i kinda still am) but the plot moves to slow for my liking though I was and still am in love with the setting of the anime (pirate fan).

Current anime's I'm watching are Accel world, and my new favorite Sword Art Online. I'll watch Phi Brain too if I'm really bored. lol

phew....this could take a lot of space if I listed everything. Instead I'll post a few of my favorites and what I am currently reading.

My favorite of all time, as you can tell by my avatar is Scott Pilgrim, and he is an manga character as he's appeared in other manga. tongue.gif

anyways I'm also a huge fan of Full Metal Alchemist, Love Hina, Negima, and Rosario + Vampire,

Several that I am currently reading are Bleach, Ao no Exorcist, Cage of Eden, D-Grayman and Fairy Tale.

This just names a few, I read a lot of them, though I'm always open to new manga or anime, so please let me know if you recommend any.

Ah FMA how dare i forget to mention that. Also Rosario + Vampire is a good one. how is fairy tale these days. I stopped reading upto the excel arc. I think they were in an amusement park fighting.

Also I recomend Sword art online (SOA) to anyone and everyone.

Simple and clean:

Death Note and Bakuman. They are short series (12 volumes the first, 20 the second), but never found a more interesting manga.

I'm not a huge anime fan, I've just seen some Code Geass episodes, recently, but my all-time-favourite anime remains Lupin III smile.gif

I'm not a huge anime fan either (not to say I hate it - I mean I draw in the anime/manga style a lot), I just don't get around to watching it unless someone wants me to. XD

My all time favorite anime/manga series is: .hack

It is so complex, and interesting! I used to own .hack//SIGN, but I left all my DVD's at my ex's house when I move out in like 2007ish. XD Gah. I'm so stupid. >>;;
Kaust
Lotta good anime mentioned so far (Did you manage to get your hands on the .Hack games Strawberry?)

Over the years I've seen too many, and too many different styles, to be able to pick a clear favourite anymore (its hard to compare something like Serial Experiments Lain with One Piece for example), but its always a treat finding those 'I've put the sword behind me' kind of characters like Vash (Trigun) and Kenshin (Ruruoni Kenshin).

Thinking back, I'm pretty sure it was Elemental Gelade (think its official name was Erementor Gerad or something) that first really got me into anime, other than overexposure to dbz as a kid. It seems pretty generic looking back, a bog-standard adventure/romance/comedy, but the character's relations and emotions were so intense at times (genuine and fitting the character rather the tedious melodrama I've so often encountered since), and one of the ending songs was so ridiculously moving that it just blew my fourteen year old mind.

I have played through most of them, but sadly, I never beat them. D=

Gah, I should really get them again and try all over!
Poteat
"Psychic Detective Yakumo" is pretty good, though he didn't do much detecting. lol I'm a big "Detective Conan" and "Un Go" fan so i expected more. but it had ghost and stuff so I still enjoyed it.
Strawberry
Oooo, I loved Detective Conan!

"WHY DIDN'T I SEE IT BEFORE!?" XD

It was an interesting anime actually. Probably why I liked it. ^___^
Shaddow
Oh! I totally forgot to mention one of my major favorites that I'm currently watching. Hitman Reborn! It's so awesome! Watch it if you haven't!

It's not gory or anything, despite the hitman name.
Kaust
Hitman Reborn was awesome but you obviously haven't reached the point where they spend half the episode recapping (and no I'm not even exaggerating), it was pretty annoying since I tend to watch episodes back to back for a few hours and its not like the story was ever so convoluted it needed to continually provide those details to the audience.
Anyways, it really does just keep improving (the first about thirty eps do not do the series any favours though), and the ring saga was pretty awesome.

haha that's the crap they do in one piece. the first 12 minutes of each episode goes, World back story, Opening theme, Strawhat's backstory, recap. like seriously? every episode? lol.
DementedCashew
Wow, this topic will be hot I just know it. And I'm currently reading Bleach, Ao No Exorcist, haven't started reading Rosario + Vampire yet but I will. And then I'll start reading D.Gray-man and Mirai Nikki. I have 52 manga series to read, I've listed this in my notes. As for anime I would like to read Eden of the East, Devil May Cry, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Kuroshitsuji. That's only for starters.
Jens of Zanicuud
Devil May Cry anime + manga are almost nonsense... but Dante is such badass in that series that they're well worth a read / view smile.gif
Just look at episode 1 and you'll understand what I'm saying smile.gif

So... what about Black Butler (manga)?

Jens
zacheatscrackers
DMC anime is amazing because Dante.

I used to LOVE One Piece but I haven't followed it in forever. I recently watched the X-Men anime, which was REALLY good, but the ending was plain nuts (then again... it's Marvel).

Black Butler is Kuroshitsuji, and I'm going to watch and read that after Bleach. And the only reason I want to read/watch Devil May Cry is because Dante is cute and he's good at what he does. wink.gif
Jens of Zanicuud
As regards Black Butler:
Some good friend of mine told me that the manga was better than the anime, but maybe that's only their opinion...

Anyway, if anyone wants to read Kingdom Hearts II manga... DON'T DO THAT!
The author dropped after five volumes and the story ends with Kairi's kidnapping!

That was really rude...

Jens
DementedCashew
Normally, people say that the manga is better because it includes more, I like reading manga because I'm not a big fan of watching things, but after I read the manga then I'll watch the episodes back-to-back so I can finish it quickly. Because I have a great goal I have to accomplish, reading more than 200 different manga series and watching more than 500 anime episodes. smile.gif Bleach will put me more than halfway there.
Kaust
Tsk DC, quality not quantity (and there is a lotta bad Bleach eps out there; they actually stuck two filler arcs in the middle of a fight scene). There's a lot of great 26 ep animes out there (I usually find 13 to be too short to accomplish a lot) and luckily that's just the right amount to watch it all in a day, which leaves an odd sense of accomplishment happy.gif

If you are gna watch a long series through you should definitely watch DBZ, I mean it practically created the format for long running anime and revolutionised fight scenes; nowadays everyone knows you're a pushover if you cant produce a colourful wave 'round your body by shouting REAL LOUD and haven't named at least three different types of beams coming from your body.

I used to prefer anime over manga, still do I guess, simply because their more 'actiony'. Still a little Naruto manga collection has snuck into my room of late just 'cause this war event is too big for twenty minutes a week.
Shaddow
@kaust - I am already finished with the Reborn anime and on, what I assume is, the final manga arc. tongue.gif

@cashew the manga is usually considered better because they go on beyond the anime, or the anime changes things. FMA iis a prime example of the latter, though brotherhood fixed that.
zacheatscrackers
I'll always love DBZ but sheesh it's so difficult to take it seriously after being subjected to that over 9000 meme for 4-5 years, aaagh.

Yeah, like Ouran Koukou Host Club, while watching the anime I waited and waited for a kiss scene between Haruhi and Tamaki, but it never came, it was only when I read the anime did I finally get my kiss scene.

I haven't really had time to read/watch manga or anime. "OTL The last one I read was Hot Gimmick, although I didn't really like it....

When I do read/watch it though, I have to say that... I'm a real child lol. I... have a habit of liking cute or feminine anime and manga. ('XDD)
I really like reading Kamichama Karin, Digi Charat, and collecting Pokemon Magical Journey comics. (lol)

Uhh, in terms of anime... I love Princess Tutu, Detective Conan, Sailor Moon, Kamichama Karin, Cardcaptors, and the older series of Pokemon.
I also actually really enjoy(ed) Teen Titans.

I used to watch Black Butler for awhile with my sister, but I don't remember why we stopped.
I dunno though, I've never really found... the butler guy to be.. atttractive? o.o

I enjoy Sailor Moon and Detective Conan as well, I used to watch the latter with my friend. And I think the butler was supposed to be more of an intimidating, mysterious character rather than being cute. But the anime/manga guys who are cute have to be Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach and Soul from Soul Eater.
SynthesisRTF
I'm on Anime List. Don't mind the name... pretty old. (And I kind of prefer DivineValefor to SynthesisRTF... xD)

Anywho, I'm currently watching Azumanga Diaoh; I plan on watching Hikaru no Go and Fullmetal Alchemist after, though.

Do you mean cute as in hot/cool or cute as in like childish/ adorable cute? o.o When I think of cute... I think of like Rilakuma cute or.. yea.
I agree-- I think Soul is quite cute. Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist is very cute though. \(^D^)/

Also, I forgot about Hikaru No Go. I used to read it when I couldn't read the +13 years of age stuff, lol. It was a good series though.
DementedCashew
I mean like hot/cool like in a sexy type of way.
amaro57
Hikura No Go was an awesome watch, I've yet to read the manga yet but I really should start sometime soon. The final episodes are really tear-jerking, the really developed the characters into people I care about.

Uh... does Tales of Graces F count as a current anime activity? xD
Kaust
I gave Black Butler a look after seeing it mentioned here a few times. It does blend comedy into its story much better than a lot of anime and there were a few genuinely funny moments but already being familiar with the 'Faust tale' it was hard to escape the weird dynamic between Sebastion and Ciel- ignoring the fact that Sebastion holds all the genuine power yet willingly takes abuse from Ciel (its one thing to serve and another to be someone's bitch), he is just too subservient for a demon, an incarnation of evil, regardless of his contract. Marlowe's Mephistopheles for example always gave Dr. Faustus something akin to what he wanted, but in a warped or diminished way- he always fulfilled his contract but he knew that there was nothing Faustus could do if he was displeased because Faustus had no real power of his own. Anyways I haven't seen it through yet, I suppose the ending will define it, but if Sebastion doesn't actually take Ciel's soul Ima be pretty annoyed.

I've recently started watching Spice and Wolf on Netflix, which is English dubbed, watching it like that is unusual for me, and I'm usually disappointed in the voice actors.

This anime is very conversation heavy so that worried me, but the characters are likeable and the voice actors do a really good job. I find myself emotionally invested in the plight of the characters and their relationship, even though it lacks a lot of the fancy explosions and comedy I usually look for. I highly recommend it.
SynthesisRTF
Speaking of anime dub vs subs, where do you guys stand on that?

Personally, there are only four animes I will tolerate the dubs: Fullmetal Alchemist, Hikaru no Go, Bleach, and Lucky Star. Everything else must be subbed.

FMA's dub was downright epic.
Kaust
I dno, its kind of a worn-out argument. In my own experience subbed does provide a more immersive, not to mention authentic(?), experience. English voice actor's jump from emotional extreme's like "he's sad this line but he's happy this line", ignoring subtext (and sometimes even coherency) and basically don't seem to treat the lines seriously (as in, being a cartoon 'its aimed at kids and kids are dumb' kinda thing), often focusing more on trying to 'fit' words rather than how they are delivered.
That aside, when people say 'dub is stupid' or whatever I always just think stfu- its like when someone says a music genre sucks; its a personal preference, and usually they have no business saying its good or bad because they've deliberately avoided a whole genre based on a couple of tracks.
Strawberry
I'd rather watch the pretty pictures than read the English text.. >>

So I prefer dubbed. Of course! If the voice acting is bad, I just tolerate it or mute it.

Yup yup!
nichodo
I now usually watch Space Battleship Yamato stuff. BTW There is a new Space Battleship Yamato anime series its Space Battleship Yamato 2199

and i don't read manga.
Magical_RuNE_Knight2001
I agree, i like dub better. Or maybe I'm just not used to subtitles? I'm used to English more.

I have to agree on the FMA dub being epic, and I can pretty much tolerate any dubbing. I don't like reading text while I'm watching pictures.
Shaddow
I suppose I've just gotten used to it XD, I almost feel like I understand Japanese when I'm using subs >.> not to mention that it really has helped me pick up several words, making my own personal study easier.

I don't mind subs, IF they are done well, it's just so rare to see it that I rarely watch them. A few exceptions are dragonball Z and Pokemon, since I never even saw those dubbed.
Poteat
I couldnt stand subtitles at one point. I hated reading the text, but after i was all caught up on one piece I had no choice. Now I can't stand dubbed. the voice acting is horrendous. like omg we have great animated moves cartoons so why is it so hard for them to get the voices right in anime?

anyway great dubbed shows were death note, FMA, code geass, cowboy beebop, and Full metal panic series.

just say this thing called neon ally coming to ps3 in the fall. they dub all shows for 7.99$ ia month. and they are doing Ao no exorcist! looks good to since they got that power ranger guy as one of the va's.
SynthesisRTF
My main gripe with subtitles is that I HATE inconsistency; whenever I stream or download subs, I usually get them by different groups. Different groups use different formats, and some groups are typically skilled at translating more than others, and I just hate the feeling that I might be missing out on some important details because the translators suck.

It's probably just a 'me thing'.
Kaust
The same applies to dubbing though- its still just a translation. The one thing about subs is they aren't bound to syncing sound and picture, therefore they can be considerably more detailed and accurate. And, like I sorta said before, the story typically seems more serious when its subbed, and I find it hard to believe the same stories are so childlike as they come across in dubbing when you have that comparison.
Shaddow
@SynthesisRTF

I can agree with that, I don't know how many times I've been reading a manga and something major is changed, like a characters name. It can be a bit annoying at times, but if you've read enough you can usually get the details even with a bad translation. Either that, or there is another translation out there.

@Kaust

This is true with dubs too, but at least those are 'official' translations, so while childish, they tend to be consistent.
Yuu-Mon Musuedo
My choice of anime is odd... I don't like Gurren Lagann because it shows a bit too much fan service for my taste, but I love Ranma 1/2 and it's second opening is fan service. So I'm messed up on that. XD But I love quite a lot, not listing DBZ, One Piece, and Naruto, I loved Casshern Sins, which made me cry... Lucky Star, Eyeshield 21, Hunter X Hunter (Old and 2011), Azumanga Daioh, Heroman, Squid Girl, and Digimon (Japanese version)

I actually been getting into a lot of "Slice of Life" anime all of a sudden. (That's shows like Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh). Now for manga, my favorite of all time is GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka. Then Jing: King of Bandits, Megaman NT Warrior, and Iketeru Futari (Not kid friendly) I also like Sailormoon which I confessed on another thread.... Ooooh I want their new manga that's coming over here in North America! laugh.gif
