I'm teaming up with "Seraphim Creations" and the game will be part of the "Kingdom" series.

Disclaimer: All the custom graphics apart from the stock RTP and the character portraits are provided and made by Seraphim Creations. We own all the required rights to use them for the various game projects, commercial or not.

What?
On a distant land, far far away...

Okami Hyou leads her party of greedy troublemakers,
in promise of gold and other riches, or maybe she
is just the greedy one.

Then there is Mahou the Mage, providing insightful
information for the rest of the party.

Kitsune is just mostly hanging around and is quite
useful during the combat.

They were tasked by the king to bring him some dusty
old artifact and now Okami Hyou is eager to collect
her just reward.

And so it begins...

When?
Our adventurers begin their journey from the time, when they have finally obtained the artifact which the king wants
and are eager to cash in their weight of gold. However a dark clouds are looming the fact that it can't be that easy
to just end the story there. OF course not.

Who?

Okami Hyou
Chi Tsugi clan was not fond of her greedy nature and decided to put her in charge of the group of
consisting members from the two other dominant clans so she would see the world and maybe learn something from it.
Her companion consist of her two long time friends from the two other clans.

Likes
- Gold.
- Shiny Stuff.
- Make a quick buck.

Dislikes
- Deal Breakers.


Mahou
Yami Tsugi clan has had a long tradition to fight various beasts to obtain even more power. Still they
understand the value of being in the alliance. However Mahou would probably backstab her party if it meant to obtaining
the ultimate power, not that such thing even exists around in the Krateria.

Likes
- Spell Pistols.
- Magical stuff.

Dislikes
- Ghosts.
- Undead.
- Murky places.


Kitsune
Rai Tsugi clan consist some of the best martial artists in the Krateria. Kitsune was send off to hone
her skills and someday to challenge her old master. Also she wonders reason of this task, as slaughtering countless monsters
is honing her skills well. Basically she does not understand her old master.

Likes
- Being smartass.
- Being sarcsatic.
- Making fun of Okami Hyou.

Dislikes
- fools.
- Chocolate.
- Guys with the god complex.


Vampire Lord

Villain of the story. Telling too much about him would be a bit too spoilerish.

Synthesize your items from crafting materials you can obtain from defeating various enemies.

I don't want to be rude... but the Vampire Lord's portrait is too much similar to Sephiroth from FF7...
Same hair, almost same clothes. I know one of the default character in the RTP quite resembles him, but I really suggest you to make some modification (e.g. add some scars, change the clothes colour, make him paler... or whatever)

Anyway, I'll try the demo.
What's the estimated playtime for now?

With run-time files do you mean the VXACE default RTP, right? (I've only got RMXP, but have dowloaded the VXACE RTP, so I hope it's enough...)

Those horns are rather a good idea, but, If I can make a suggestion, I would eliminate them and try finding som other detail.
If you are following the tradition (with tradition I mean Dracula by Bram Stoker and / or collective imagination about vampires - see Count Dracula in any game in Castelvania series), a vampire should be either a true monster or a finer and more elegant creature. Bram Stoker's Dracula is a monster, the pure evil incarnated, while later vampires are enticing creatures who try to seduce and attract their prey (I mean true vampires, not the ones from Twilight, obviously). If your aim is a vampire like the first one I mentioned, then, why not the horns? Anyway, if you think about him as the second kind of vampire, well, I feel these horns are misplaced.

I'll report you when I've tried the demo,

Those horns are rather a good idea, but, If I can make a suggestion, I would eliminate them and try finding som other detail.

I get your point but vampires can transform to be more than just bats (unless it is classical Vampire). wink.gif

I got your point, but it all depends on what his personality is.
Does he appear in the demo?
Or you planned to make him appear later?
Anyway, you told me you haven't got a name for that vampire... do you accept suggestions or simply want to make it yourself?

It's just my personal opinion anyway.

If dialogue box has a image set and then the battle begins after said dialogue box, the character's face stays until the battle ends.

I've tried it for a while.

I've noticed a couple of things:
>In the second map, there are lots of pointless staks of woods along the way.
I feel no villager would put them in such disorder...
>When I first talked to the shop owner, the game crashed. Fortunately, it didn't happen a second time...

TP is gained most effectively by receiving damage.

I've found a bug.
When you face the first boss with the Vampire Lord and beat it (yes, I completely depleted his life gauge), since he's invincible, he doesn't die. Anyway, he's not able to perform any more attacks. So what I'm supposed to do to lose the encounter at that point?
(Obviously, I restarted the game and lose by purpose to go on, but the bug still remains).

Another glitch I found: If you press F12 to restart the game and Continue from a previous file (in the Vampstle), a script error occurs.

F12 causes indeed crashing but Return to Title Screen and then load the save works fine. I wonder if I can remove F12 key from the game functionality.

Btw, it has been in quite few versions where Vampire Lord's battle against Dark Priest is forced to end at turn three. Not sure how you didn't get that event if you didn't use save from the old version or you simply didn't fight him long enough to find that out. Still I add third condition for the case someone else actually manages to deplete his HP gauge before the turn three.

Anyway, I can't understand Japanese...

So, I killed the priest in something like five turns with the TP technique... but no condition triggered...
That was absurd!
BTW I had a previous saved file and I went on smile.gif

I suppose there's a sort of tribal society in your game, or am I completely wrong?
Question about the plot
Why that damn thief left his/her visiting card in the Vampire Lord's chest? Is it not stupid?
Maybe is a sort of legendary thief which signs every robbery, like a sort of Lupin III... but, anyway, why leaving the client's name as well?

Spoilers!
King and those who work directly under him like his Army, butlers, etc are technically in the superior position than the three most powerful clans which hold the alliance to make sure that no other clan can do the same. Thus for example Okami Hyou being a novice in the clan still, means that only those who are her superiors are the clan members who belong to higher positions than her and of course the king, etc. Eventually this could lead to Coup d'état if the king does not do what the clans want. This obviously means that typical villager hardly holds authority to tell what to do when it comes to people like Okami Hyou. This could also kind of explain the fact why going to INN makes them VIP and probably pay way less from items than the typical villagers. Ironically Vampire clan is fourth in official rankings even though their knowledge and power far exceed the other clans, if they which to act. This leads to fact that lately Vampire Lords have started to take interest to conquer the world even more.

Some details will be missed if player is not used to explore the dungeons when he plays games. Another place is "W. Summer Holt". Player can get few items from there but completely fail to realize to bring Butsu to check out the book later.

Edit:

v1.04 will have.
- Even more detailed maps (Many of them are kind of unfinished, you know.)
- Weapon system will be revamped to have more interesting stats (Weapon damage will be turned to percentage increases and there will be able to inflict various status aliments.)
- Shop will be improved further, no longer just the one long list of stuff you can buy (Confusing for the other players at least initially).
- Most encounter rates set to 15 steps avg will be increased to 30 steps avg (It is odd how later monster spawns get rarer while getting bombarded constantly by them earlier).
- More proofreading and the confusing bridge scene will have a new dialogue to make more sense with the current storyline (I want to lure you to this cave but tell you to go away?).
- Overworld map will have more progress contextual enemy spawns, this means when you come back from the Ruined Tower, you are not encountering the level 3 Light Goozes anymore but instead of something more challenging.
- More areas to see in the world map where you can't go, to make it look a more realistic world (Krateria is not supposed to be a small island nation, but instead of huge one).
- More NPC guys in the dangerous areas, supplying you with the lore. This means that when you go to various dungeons, it just makes sense that other Adventurers might already be there.
- Ruined Tower F3 will get a way to teleport out from there after beating it, instead of making the player go all the way back down to exit from there.
- Evil Forest demands rain and it shall have it.
- Shop that sells you the crafting materials if the RNG hates you that much.
- More items, including an items which can be used offensively during the combat.

I managed to complete this game. Another story will be in the sequel and features the familiar cast.

Clord has joined Seraphim Creations and the game "Saga of the Clans" will now be a part of the "Kingdom" series I am using all of my companies resources to remake the game. So I would like to present the NEW game "Kingdom - The Clans"


We are taking out many of the buggy scripts that are not needed, adding a better combat system, and custom artwork and graphics.
One of the most notable changes is the story text change, it is now in a more proper/readable english. I will make this Kingdom game my next success just like all my other projects!

So who is the main developer of the game, and how much change is being done to the game? If it is being head developed by Clord still this thread can stay, however if the game is being done now by Lato and the game is being completely remade. The chances are this thread will be closed.

Hm good point, I am updating many parts of the game, however We are working together in this, he has just joined the Kingdom series so I will leave this Kingdom game topic in Clords hands.

It is idea about making the game something one would consider as work of the "indies" while playing it instead of something which is made in the few weeks by almost only using stock graphics, music etc for example. Something to be proud of. It is easier to produce great games by via cooperation.

Yes ALL Kingdom games are comerical, however my company is indie and not some big game company so the prices will always be $5 a game and I will host game giveaways from time to time.

And yes I am doing all the sprite/pix work happy.gif it is a mutually beneficial partnership that I hope to share with more of you guys.

I got you doing plenty of work on my other Kingdom games laugh.gif I pretty much just do custom sprite work all day and wait for emails from like 8 differnt ppl I have working for me on my games happy.gif

Kingdom - The Clans, will be a very nice addition to the Kingdom series, while I like to be serious most of the time this game is a funny breath of fresh air, and has made me smile and laugh quite a few times, it really stands out above others as far as enjoyable story. I saw Clord had a talent for making a enjoyable game story, a very rare skill these days, there are a few games I wanted to make into the Kingdom series and this one was one of them.

Started updating the main thread a bit. It was bit outdated.

About the future plans.

I'm working with the sequel according to my own motivation. Once the first game is finished so I can get the new graphics etc, I can really get to it besides of planning the story and doing some basic maps. Sequel will flesh out more about how the society in the world of Krateria actually works. Why there is King even though clans could just overthrow him if they want? Etc. Not that main characters are probably going to care that much, but they will be told anyways.

Becoming over 200% funded and sharing the success with my team is a great thing. Now for the new updates that me and my team will be adding to the game.

1.ALL custom pix work not done by Seraphim Creations will be taken out and replaced by myself using the Kingdom series tile set.

2.New world map towns/locations

3.Some Voice acting at key story points

4.Custom anime styled music

5.Custom title and game over screens

6. Rebalanced combat and skills.

7.Smoother english story text.

The game is also going under a small conversion so that it can be sold commercially.

With the addition of Clord to my team the future is looking very bright for Seraphim Creations!

However, with all this extra information I need you to update the credits please with the details of who made/gave you the tile sets, even if it's just yours company. This is to ensure you follow the rules. smile.gif So Clord needs to add updates to the credit list. To ensure it follows the Submission Rules.

Yes the screen shots are from the original game before it became a part of the Kingdom series and my team remade it. After the Commercial upgrade is made there will be updated screen shots.

Can I ask how do you use the dim-shadow-like map screen like shown in few screenshots?
The mapping is good, but on the first screen, it doesn't look good, and idk why....maybe it's just me. The indoor is pretty good, I can only think of using smaller fonts for the convos ^^

That is actually a day night script that is doing the dim effect, im sure it can be done with events as well but we just use the script. I actually like the font.

In 'day-night' in-game event, you won't get the shadow/light effects from the lamp, just plain darker screen. That's why I'm asking..

Not really.

Many of the text entries are four lines and way longer than in the screenshots. Characters are not just one liners. Far from it.

That screenshot where "Atlantis" is mentioned. Text is actually cut off because of the fact that she is reading the book and not paying any attention towards the party yet.

It's not the font size that bothered me it's the way it's centered...It feels disjointed. Also, If there is more than 4 lines....then would the player have to keep clicking to continue the text, cause of the text size and positioning.

Also a few gramatical errors for you to fix on your Topic especially as this is going to be transferred to a Commercial Project. They're all inside the quotes, and I've bold the sections I've changed.

Since I think the face took more than 1/4 space of the text itself.

Yes the text always shows the characters faces when they talk, its a nice system we are using, though it is new to me so maybe that is why I like it so much, but some people will like it more then others.

Once the commercial update is done there will be a overhaul of the topic including updated screen shots and story bio, and other minor errors fixed. Part of the fun of creating is fixing and updating these things happy.gif

Yes the text always shows the characters faces when they talk, its a nice system we are using, though it is new to me so maybe that is why I like it so much, but some people will like it more then others.

This project has lately gained quite bit attention once again.

In case anybody wonders, I spoke with Lato and Clord and since the demo has been removed in order to revamp the game it has been pushed back to Project Showcase for the time being.

Overall, this looks like a pretty decent project, and I look forward to seeing where this goes. The mapping could probably use a bit of work, as they are a bit empty. It's not bad mapping, though, just lacking detail, although I'm not sure if those are outdated graphics from before this was renamed.

Also, how do the Kingdom games all relate, out of curiosity? I thought I read somewhere that Kingdom 2 wasn't really a direct sequel, so I wondered if the name Kingdom was more of a franchise with similarities, but different stories.

The Kingdom series is the GAME aspect of Seraphim Creations, my company, while I do enjoy making video games that is not all that my company does, an example of this would be the Kingdom graphic novel, that just happens to be about the story of Kingdom RPG. There is also a link of the games in the Kingdom series, they are all set in a older time period, non modern.

New screen shots will be posted after the commercial kit is completed. The maps have been improved and the Seraphim Creations tileset has even been used to add a custom look to areas.
