I now have a playable demo that can keep you busy for up to 1.5 hours. It is a little hard to tell now as to how far I've completed the game but I put to about 4% at the moment.

Your storyline is bland and cliche. Your mapping is also quite...plain, with little detail or variation.

I don't have that much to work with resource wise though. If I could have unlimited tiles I could do much better mapping.

There's SwapXT for VX that gives unlimited tilesets. But anyways, story-wise, it's a bit cliche but still starts off pretty good. The problem I had was the first fight, which is supposed to be a sort of friendly practice between the main hero and a prince.

So we get into this fight, and the prince taunts me and begins kicking my butt. The prince has 366 HP, and my hits only do about 8 to 10 in damage each round. After several rounds, the prince finally finishes me off, which is to be expected. Then the prince tells me to put on some equipment, of which he then wants to fight me again. So.... the first fight was pointless and I wasted about 5 minutes getting through it? Why not skip the first fight, automatically have the prince hand me my equipment, and go straight to the second fight?

Now let's talk about the second fight. Mind you, this is still a training fight, as in, for practice. So I don the equipment, and now I must fight the prince all over again. My hits do about 16 to 20 in damage, but considering the prince still has about 366 HP, that will take me at least another 18 rounds to defeat him. Add to the fact that some of my hits miss, and you're looking at about 20 to 25 rounds.

Except!

The prince can also hit you and deplete your damage, and even get in a couple of critical hits, if you're unlucky. So now you're in a gambling death match with the prince to see who can hit quick and hard first, and hope you're lucky enough to survive, in spite of this only being a training bout. No problem, we'll just use a healing item if our health gets too low.

What's that? No healing items? Well, I'll be! You mean to tell me that the outcome of this fight is a luck of the draw? Fine, let the bugger of a prince finish me off, no big deal, it's just a training round after all.

Imagine my surprise when the prince gave a finishing blow and I saw the game over screen. Now I must restart and play again, go through the beginning intro, and hope to get lucky and survive the training fight in order to proceed.

No thank you.

But seriously, focus should be more on balancing your game so things like this do not happen before worrying about tilesets and maps.
