Full Version: Naval Base

I'm designing a naval base that the player sneaks into. This game (Iniquity and Vindication, demo available) is set in modern Europe. Well, 1991 Europe, actually.

I have never made modern urban areas before help

Already I think the roads need to be narrower, but the only way to delete two rows of asphalt tiles is to add two rows of rooftop tiles, and that's not an improvement.

I don't want compliments, I want suggestions!

Maybe instead of trying to "delete" those two rows of tiles, you could make use of them.
Suppose on the inside of the gate (right side) you extended the concrete over the asphalt and added some stuffs on the left side of the building. Something like the large cylinder things or perhaps an outside project that relates to what would be happening inside that building (or that could be used as a tool to progress part of your story, if possible). =]

I like the colors and the tile set. The roads are definitely too big, especially for a European city, and the straight white lines are kind of jarring. Maybe add some broken yellow lines in the middle of the roads, like a real road? And maybe add some street signs (like stop signs).

Great tileset. Traffic lights could do some good, maybe turning lines (to guide the turning vehicles), although I'm not sure if that would fit with the setting. I think you might need some jeeps and stuff too, or some drains. Something to take your eyes away from the glaring open and wide road. Yeah, anyway you can get the roads to be smaller, even if it looks *much* smaller. Smaller is better than bigger.

Looks too big and sprawling for my taste.

Also, think about what makes it different from an army base or an airfield? I see no warships...

Shouldnt a navel base have some water? Then again I have never been on a naval base before.

To contrast some of the other remarks, I don't like the colors and I don't like the tile set. If you want to see a what a modern setting in an RPG could look like, play Earthbound for SNES.
