Ok Im back! Seems like the site is going through some crazy changes so I hope im posting everything in the right place. I have been doing some art lately to really beef up/show off my art company. What I want to show you guys is a painting I did on canvas of Terra from Final Fantasy 6, its been a LONG time since I did a painting but I love the way it has turned out so far and its almost done so I wanna hear what you guys think.
kaz
Right place- biggrin.gif

What paint do you use? it has a lovely soft yet clean look.

The only thing that stands out as a little squiffy is the white trim along her bodice- that would be more curved rather than a straight line.
Lato
Well I only use Acrylic to paint with, but Since I havent painted anything in MANY years the tubes I used were well over 10 years so I did notice a a change in the paint. But I think its beautiful, this is the best painting ive ever done, though thats makes since cause i been spending years working on my drawing. Here is the final ver of it, I added ear detail and added a slight curve to the white on her top, and a jewel on her cape.
So what you think about the final ver?
kaz
She's looking lovely- maybe soften the chin line and make her eyes stand out more.

I love acrylics as well they dry much quicker and are brilliant for blending.

Soften the chin? I think its in the amano/Final Fantasy style, he did bold features even if they werent to common. I love the way it turned out, this really gives me confidence to do some more paintings. But sadly I just don't like having any of my paintings up in my room so I put it on ebay lol. Thanks for the feedback Kaz there isnt enough of it in the art section happy.gif

No problem - I see what you mean about the chin - sorry I am a more traditional artist ( must update my old thread)

Painting is very theraputic I find- nice to see some hand painted rather than tablet work.

I know right!? It seems everything nowdays is going digital! I guess I shouldnt talk cause my graphic novel is all digital(In the final ver) but i just find it stressful and many times just boring using the tech of today. And painting this one WAS so theraputic! I worked on it for like 5 hours and didnt grip at all, it was very peacful actually, Im thinking of doing some more but painting does cost ALOT more then just drawing so ehh. As for the chin I just wanted to be true to the style used in FF games, I wish my style was like that all the time but when I draw its all over the place, I have no idea why, I guess my heads just in the clouds to much these days. I wish the art thread was more active, I love viewing and giving feedback on art here.

Kaz where is your work? I dont remmber seeing any of it here happy.gif

Nice work, lato. The hair looks amazing.
I know nothing about FF6 but I do know that that painting is awesome.
My sister did/does some canvas painting... Maybe should post some up.

Ahh ty! Everytime I look at it I just think it looks so beautiful! FF 6 is what got me into art and rpgs! My life would be so differnt without it, I would give my left arm to meet Amano. The problem is I think it would just look so tacky on my wall, I mean its a small canvas frame, and I only have one left, Maybe I should do the whole cast? I actually have a huge canvas with the whole cast on it I might post. But I think im just gonna keep selling my work on ebay. having someone love your work so much that they have to have it is just the best feeling:)

If your sis has some art to post then lets get it up here! The art topic needs MORE life to it! I keep telling ppl they should put me in charge of it lol.
kaz
Selling it on ebay - well done best praise going.

Combination of all sorts needs updating--the owl is in acrylics btw. http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=30997 Many years ago I did a commission of a Barclay James Harvest CD cover for someone- I sprayed it with silicone spray and framed it - maybe you could do that and put it on your wall.

Well A few months ago I sold my first work of art, a clay mask I made years ago, it was so cool to finally be validated as a real artist. So i used the money and got more supplies and made even more types of masks. Id like to finish my Final Fantasy 6 cast painting but the canvas is HUGE so i need some more paint and those dam tubes arent cheap lol.

Kaz those pic links are dead. You did a commission for someone but they didnt want the original work?? Thats kinda weird lol, Id love to do some painting commissions for ppl here but I dont know if im good enough, i did a badass Terra painting but thats one thing, Ive never actually been asked to do a commission but i think it will be fun, maybe if I have some more paintings to show off here ill open a topic.

Most of the links should work - I get my acrylics from a discount shop. Clay oh do you have a photo I would love to see it.
No I dont have the commission - the guy paid and had it but I never thought to photograph it before it went

http://kaz-rrr.deviantart.com/ the originals are all here - do you have a deviant art account?
Lato
http://johnathanclay.deviantart.com/

Yea this is my DA profile but I havent put anything on it in awhile, I guess I should put up my new stuff lol. Ive done just about every type of art you can do, I really like to sculpt to, so here are the NEW masks I did.

Now these were done with ceramic clay which is REALLY hard to work with, I did a greek god theme.
This one I made into a evil charm, a Malice Mask with the mouths eating sin. I got both of these on ebay to see how popular they might be.

I really like your loan flowers Kaz, there simple yet have a very peaceful look/feel to them.

Oh and I never asked what you guys think about my masks lol.
kaz
Those masks are really good - quite erie!

It is not easy to model faces and you have got some great expressions on those.

Thanks for the compliment about my flowers. biggrin.gif
kayden997
Nice masks! You going to paint them?
(just going to move this in artist's gallery)
Lato
Oh cool, wasnt sure if ppl would like them, ive been sculpting ever since I was a kid and masks are one of my fav things to make, Was thinking of doing something a bit differnt and doing a clay head/statue of Terra or Celes from Final Fantasy 6. I got my art company going now "Seraphim Creations" but still want a website to show all my work and do commissions.

I really dont like to paint the masks, I have one painted on ebay but I think when you paint them it just really takes away from the natural value look of the clay. Plus I Varnish the masks to protect them from weather so It gives them a wicked shine cool.gif I like making them look evil lol.
Lato
Ok wasnt sure if i had to make a new topic for this or not, im still so confused about all these changes going on. BUT here is a Roman armor icon I made, I like it, and wanna try my hand at doing some icons now, but I want to know what you guys think?

BTW this is NOT for use!
kayden997
You can make a new topic for this type of stuff; just don't post it in the Artist's Gallery.
To make it more secure, I would suggest a type of watermark to place over it. Just my suggestion.

To the art, I like it so far. Although I would add some light/shade to the shoulder parts of that armor.

I did a few more this is a roman spear and i edited the default ring in XP cause it looked kinda gay

The armor wasnt bad for my first armor edit, but im trying to get better at icons, its like pulling teeth to get reviews around here so tell me what you guys think.
kayden997
See, the thing is: you are just too good at icons.
Really, that it some wonderful work right there.
I believe the roman spear tip should be shaded down a few notches for realism. But you can keep it as such for clarity.

Oh, I actually thought you were joking at first when you said i was good at doing icons lol, that spear was like the 4th icon I ever did. I dont think its really to hard to do them but with my sideview battle system the icons are actually the weapons you use in battle which is really cool so I can do custom weapons now for my game.
I really hope ppl get some use out of the edits I do cause the default icons dont give you alot of choices which is sad, but doing these icons has opened up a hole new area for me to do stuff with games so thats good.

Im really not sure what I want to make next, I did a really cool egypt curved sword but I dont want to put only ones im using for my game here, maybe ill make one as a prize for a contest or something..

Im always open to ideas! Ill probly try my hand at doing a helmet next:)
Lato

Ok this is my first helmet/edit I did a egypt head cloth since one of my char wears one and then I did the edit of the default robe for xp, I think it looks alot better cause this one is more for male char happy.gif Im really getting into this SOOOOOO to keep the art side of RRR alive I will do ONE request for a icon, now I only do them in the xp format/style so I dont know if they other game makers use the same or not. But Ill make a weapon or armor or acc happy.gif So whoever is the first to reply with a request gets it!!!
Lato
Ok Im on some new weight loss pills and the side effects keep me up pretty bad so I had some extra time and ended up making some char for a new game I was thinking of, these are not the final versions but I like them. happy.gif

Lato
Ok I have been soooo bored lately looking for stuff to work on and I got this crazy idea when I was looking at some of our res. I noticed that the VX battlers just seem way to....fancy? for a lack of a better term. The battlers look cool but I just dont see them being used for other engines. So I decided what the hell and had this idea to kinda downgrade a battler for use in older game makers, this is a werewolf one I redid of the VX wolf.

Now hes not done all the way but pretty close seeing as I dont know where to go with it lol, so do you guys think it could be used in older makers?
kayden997
Wow... That re-edit is really good. I believe it does emit that 'Egypt' feel but not distinctly. They tend to wear robes as opposed to modern looking dress shirts. Try to go off that and see what can be done.

----------------------------------

Well those character are interesting indeed. Heck, it's better then what I can do so +1 for that.
Besides, you were probably hallucinating or or having side effects so... another +1 for that.... lolol

-----------------------------------------

I believe it could be used in an old style rpg.
Try to look at the styles of some older rpg and how they bring that "old" look to it.
And depends how "old" are you going?
Pallets, limited, bla bla bla.
I'm not a teacher... But I can provide some examples of old style game art.

Ah I made her hat a LOT better actually, im still in love with making icons so I actually put the final version in my Kingdom game as well as the robe.

It turns out im not the only one making a Alice spin off game to lol, I was gonna offer to give him the chars for use or even make the char art for the game but no one seems to want to work with me laugh.gif I really like them, the more I use PS the more I like it. Now I wanted the wolf to be used for like that old style pixel Pokemon games style, keeping in mind of course that wolf was a VERY fast one I was just trying out.

I would have loved to use my stuff for RPG maker 2003 but the link here is dead...and ive been banned from the new sites...so that kinda sucks! I was really wanting to do some char art but ehh, times are really weird now, you cant give away free help and ppl that used to beg me for work dont answer my pms lol.

ANYWAYS back to the art! Im gonna keep the art thread alive even if im the only on posting stuff! AHAHA
kayden997
I would post stuff but I really don't know how to finish my cell shade art.
Besides, I'll be the last person to post in this art thread. You want a competition, FINE. You just met your equal.

And RPG is really easy to find. If you were to google it, things would appear.
Besides, nothing like a good old game maker to give you inspiration for old style art.

I really need to learn how to shade with PS, but ill get there. I just miss the good old days when there were alot of ppl posting there work. And I DID google RPG maker 2003, it gave me THIS site and the ones I was banned from.. If you know a good link Id really like to have it happy.gif

Illegal!? How is that possible? There are ppl posting the games here made with it, and I dont remember ever seeing a topic like that. Explain plz cause this sounds like a bad joke mellow.gif
kayden997
Japanese version isn't illegal, only the English patch for it is.
You can post games because you can never really retrace it if they bought it and translated it. For all they know, they could of bought the Japaneses version and just used it as it.

This is what I've heard anyways.

Ehh I have the worst luck it seems... Are there any open res games that I could start from that you know of? Or is that Illegal?
That just sounds so strange, but in todays world I guess we shouldnt be surprized by anything. Anyways I was editing some char battlers in xp for use as char art for my game and wanted to show a bit.

I really like how cute I made the pixi, I think the default look was just a bit over the top, the headgear it had was hard to tell what it was, now she looks much more simple and natural, and I just did a few thinks to the imp demon.
kayden997
I agree, the fairy looks a lot better without all the gear and such. As for the imp I does look a bit better with the 'symbols' on his forehead then on his chest (taking you can't see it anyways).
Lato

Oh but when you use the battle as char art when they talking you can see it tongue.gif, I just found another way to make my game even more badass! Sadly I have to limit the # of them that I do though to monsters and make then into spells cause If I were to try and do a human one the RTP style would clash bad with the custom char art style of the cast. Which reminds me I need to make a Kingdom topic, or maybe I already did, I get so confused these days, Also I found 2003 and make a topic about it thanks for the info on that Kayden you made my day lol.

Im gonna show off my 2003 char edits in next post.
Lato
Ok I was doing some char art for my new game, the problem was I did it on my notebook page instead of my art pad dry.gif I didnt think it would made a differnce once I scanned it and used PS but I guess it does cause the quality seems a bit off. still this is a good ruff draft. This is Drusilla from my new Roman game.

X-M-O
It doesn't look too bad at all - just a little long neck and a couple things here and there, but it's a rough draft as you say. ^^

Its the lines! dry.gif ehh they killing me, I mean it is a simple pic so I guess I could just trace it on a actual art book paper to raise the quality. I just didnt think normal notebook paper would have such a impact on the quality. I actually like the long neck, seems regal to me happy.gif but the quality is just to poor for game use so I have to either redo it on art paper or hire someone to redo it.
X-M-O
You can get a regal look without the need for a long neck (see this old Egyptian art for an example of the neck style for a side-view), if that's what you were meaning. =]
bacon
Okay I am going to be blunt, you definitely are rough when it comes to art and you need a bit of improving but that is something that only time and hardwork will fix so yay for you~
Right now I see a sort of unique style but its a bit loose because you lack technique (WHICH IS OKAY BECAUSE EVERYONE IS ALWAYS AT THAT POINT IN THE BEGINNING). So you probably know what i am going to suggest; get some basic realism going on. You have a decent concept of how to draw it just looks like you lack framework. I would look at some people and then trace their outlines. See how they bend and curve. And then look at skeletal structure and copy that. It will help you a bunch and make things x10 more consistent. Plus anyways, studying realism will harness your innate style and it will turn into something original and trendy.

As for the lady, her neck is way too long. As for the face, look at someone at a profile and then use that. You have the basic shapes down you just need to fine-tune it and get all consistent and jiggy with it.

Last thing, continue to have fun and try new things and explore. The best way to learn is to try new things in 2 min sketches and then apllying what you learn to something bigger.

Anyways good luck on your art endeavors and whatnot~
Lato
I miss the good old days when I could just yell at someone, cause so many ppl would benifit from a good old fashioned kick in the balls. Sadly now I have a little bit of responsibility so I have to behave...for the most part happy.gif So let me say advice is always good and rarely taken. If I wanted realism I would go out into the real word lol which ive had more then enough, I prefer the world of fantasy, and every once in awhile ill do a actual person, but id much rather have it done in my own flawed style then anything else. Im happy with my art and I am always getting better.
bacon
If you are talking about the "good old days" where everyone sat in their own fantasy art bubble and thought they were the shit; well then keep having fun living the dream man. But don't use you staff position as a threat because it is a blank threat and it just shows how immature of a person you are. So here's some advice for you; learn to take advice and critique better. What I said was extremely non-hostile and the only purpose of the post above was to try and give you some advice so that you could be a better artist. I wasn't trying to belittle you and insult you. What I said was extremely valid. What you have posted so far has had some issues and flaws that any decent artist would recognize and try to fix. It has nothing to do with style. Don't mistake inexperience for style. I am glad that you have fun doing art and it is something that you should continue having fun with it; but when you want to move on and get better you might want to heed someones well intended advice. And no, this is not a flame; I'm simply responding to your rude comment.

Wonderful, thanks for your advice as I had already said, and you can shove that advice you know where happy.gif And its because of my position that im being so nice to you so lets not even talk about that, if you want to grow up and be a real boy your going to have to learn to deal better. Im not really sure what it is but I like it, I will know soon enough, keep in mind its not finished yet, more like a beautiful work in progress!

Yes she did, but i really didnt like the way they looked and they dont transfer well when you have them as char art. I like her body pos, it looks silly and relaxed, there is to many serious poses of characters. Thats why I really like this one, and yeah wouldnt it be cool/funny if you were talking to someone and they just fell over happy.gif

You should check out my char sprites and Icons I have just been doing recently, some of my best work.
Strawberry
I agree with Exy. I mean just because there are several "too serious characters" doesn't mean you need to leave her in a silly position. What if someone likes her, but wants her to be a serious character? I mean, you should either add in wings or slightly change the pose. :X

Hmm well this was just for my use, HOWEVER if someone wanted me to edit it to make her more serious of look different I could do that.
amaro57
Her legs seem a bit rubbery in my opinion. I don't see anything resembling bones and it reminds me of Harry Potter when his arm had its bones removed. Perhaps try playing around with it a bit more? I agree with bacon's advice on a bit of structure study.
