I'm not sure if this fits here, since it's more of a question on how RPG Makers in general calculate this sort of damage, but since I'm using VX and soon to be VXA, I decided to put this here. If incorrect, could somebody please move?

Anyways, moving passed my ramble and onto the point of my topic.

Something I've been wondering about and not sure how it's calculated. Now, just to clarify I am using VX for my current project, but I'd imagine this is a question that can still come up in VXA.

Generally, a character may be strong, weak, or average against various attack types (ie., elemental, mental, or physical). So if they are strong against Fire, fire will do little to no damage, and if they are weak to Ice, ice will do much more than average.

However, what if there is a weapon that has both Ice and Fire attributes? Would a character that is weak to both Fire and Ice receive even more damage than had it been one or another? Taking this further, would a character that is weak against Fire but strong against Ice balance out so that the damage is either very weak or cancels each other out?

I did this kind of test before. If my memory still serves, when calculating damage, only the highest elemental effect counts.

To answer your question:

Attacking with fire&ice, target will take extra damage(150%) if weak(B) to fire, no matter if immune(E/F) or also weak(B) to ice.
However, if the target is very weak(A) to ice, it will take even more damage(200%), in this case weak(B) to fire or not doesn't matter cuz only the highest count.

That stinks; I was afraid of that. At least with Ace there may be some workaround for it. It would make for some interesting balance design if the two balanced out.

Patrick S over at the Ace site stated that Craze made a script for Ace that would balance out damage when a person or monster that has high/low resistance to multiple elements is attacked by a weapon/creature who has those elements.
