Now that some people are working on the plot and all, let's find out who will be able to do what in the end... Er... Beginning.
This can include stuff like: parallax, scripting, concept, eventer, mapper, supporter, cookie bringer, and so on.

I'm not creating this topic to find out oh, Sparrow wants to do this and then later leaves that role. I'm creating this so others can have an idea of who wants to do what when that time comes around.

P.S you can have multiple roles.

Here's what I can do (well):

-Mapping
-Scripting
-Composing Music (currently working on Gai's Hunters so my first priority with music is that. if I'm all caught up there I can contribute here)
-Proofreading (grammar and spelling mistakes bother me)

Mapping is probably going to be handled well by enough people. Music is my favorite: my passion, hobby, and eventual career. Scripting I can do, I know a lot of people steer clear of it, but I understand programming fairly well, certainly for what is required to understand and edit the rpg-maker scripts.

So, that's that.
dragndude9
I can compose as well! I've worked on over 6 RPG Maker games and about 5 independant films. 3 years of music theory.

I've learned music production for video games from Gerard Marino, the composer of God of War, and my friend Tomoki, one of the Soul Calibur 5 composers.

My music demo: www.Soundcloud.com/LATuxedoMusic (Also in signiature)

I'd love to help out with composing if you guys will have me.

I'm pretty certain plot is as far as I can lend a hand on a project this big, possibly some eventing (though I think XP was the decided engine which is certainly not my strong suit) and, depending on the time I have/how long this goes on for, I'll try and lend a hand in other areas as well.

I'm pretty sure kayden didn't mean that you would drop your role; he was just using it as an example. XD
Albino Parakeet
I left because of the whole "boredom" plot, and now that I see people are trying to change it and find a different plot/theme/whatever, I'm encouraged to see where it goes. If it goes somewhere I like, I might attempt to be a part of this again, and once again, probably as a mapper. Or perhaps a supporting writer.

EDIT: I have nothing against those who were for and/or made the "boredom" plot/theme/whatever, it just wasn't my cup of tea. No hard feelings.

EDIT#2: Well, if we do end up using VX, then you can scratch off mapping. I'm not good with its balls-to-the-wall blockiness.

If you've got a preference as to how the plot goes, voice it thumbsup.gif

I'm kinda busy right now, but I'm really interested in this project. If there's some smaller things I can help with it would be really awesome.

I can do these:
-Eventing
-I can do some music, I'm still working on it though.
-I would also like to help with the plot.

I don't know, if there's a place for me that would be awesome.
shinyjiggly
I'm somewhat good at making sprites and sound effects.
MisterToonz
Sorry my hats a bit late to the party...

-I can compose music
-Eventing
-Parallax Mapping
-Lore / Back-story Writing. (Non Plot / Fluff)
Darkblade
I'd be happy to help with some concept designs.
For monsters or locations,
I'm not the greatest digital painter, but I'd be happy to do what I can.
thatbennyguy
I would be keen and willing to help:
- Mapping locations
- Composing songs
- Proofreading (English)
- Eventing (incl. minigames)
- Sound FX creation
- Database creation/modification
- Miscellaneous tasks

kayden, if you keep a list of members who have made significant contributions (to this project) that would be great, because I plan on awarding Rev Points to everyone that makes a significant contribution (you, amerk, Kaust, and shinyjiggly can determine the definition for "significant").
Multiple significant contributions will result in more Rev Points.
(So far I plan on giving 5 Rev Points per significant contribution, with a maximum of 50 Rev Points per member for this project.) =]
kayden997
Good idea, I'll add that below
amerk
I'm just so far behind what's going on with this right now between a very busy couple of months that I'll probably be unable to offer much assistance, so I'll let more capable hands control the helm on this project. Hopefully if this takes off, though, we'll encourage new projects in the future that I'll be able to help with.
X-M-O
I know how things have been going for you, so that's all right. ^^
That means kayden997, Kaust, and shinyjiggly will determine the definition of "significant" and all that. =]
ImHiPotion
Hey guys.
I would love to help with this project!
What can I do?
Character design.
Eventing.
Mapping/map design.
Story writing.

What I would like to do?
I would love to design some characters. Anything from Main Characters to a random NPC. I will give them a life and a back story.
I would also like to help with puzzle design/making and I could plan side quests if you are going to have them.

Let me know if you need me.
MEands
I'd like to request a new type of job. Now there might be a little bit of debate on weather we need this job or not, but I'd like to ask if I could be the OP animator.
Meaning I'd create the opening movie that plays before the main menu appears.
Thoughts? Is this a bad idea or would it improve the game?
thatbennyguy
This is a good idea.
Kaust
@Benny; that is pretty much spam, I'll let you off though, just try to make sure posts really contribute something.

@MEands: Well it could be cool, real games have 'em so it could look pretty professional. It really depends on what the content of the animation is as that will define whether its a beneficial inclusion (whether or not it adds to the experience of the game, and also in case it includes spoilers). However, if you could provide an example of what you would like to do (even just a quick storyboard) then that would sway me and likely most others.
MEands
Okay, here's a quick writeup of my ideas.

Storyboard
Okay so I found this vocaloid song that I think would make a good opening song. (Is it okay if we use this or are we going for only original music?)
Anyway, the video starts with a rainy sky, it zooms out from the sky and shows that it is a kid viewing the sky from his window. (This will be the main character from layer2, but it will be assumed he is representing the player of the game) as the 8-bit music begins to play he clicks the mouse, opens a file called: (whatever the layer 1 game is called, maybe that should be the name of the first installment so it makes it more believable) anyway, he opens this file, and then the more intense part of the song starts. It shows the main cast of layer 1 with the title above their heads.
After that various representations of layer 1 are shown during the song (possibly showing what the characters did to end up where they were when the game starts)
It would provide a little bit of backstory while still being vague enough to not show that it's a game itself.
Sparrowsmith
I'm certainly not against an animated opening (hell, I could even help with that) but I think it will have to be original music.
MEands
Alright, then that probably means we'll save this for last, since we don't have an "official" musician or an idea of what kind of music we're using.
Kaleb Daub
I might be willing help if I can. I'm a beginning artist and can do recolors and basic edits and I am always available so if you need something small I might be able to help out like i said i am a starter at this stuff i can small edits to sprites and faces sometimes. Sorry if I can't help out a whole lot. So I can be a back up artist if you will. Glad that there is something like this going on a community thing thats what makes my really want to get better.
You can find my work through out the resource submission and visual art forums.
bulmabriefs144
I'm a bit average on everything (meaning I'm kinda talented across the board, but not really exceptional) with the exception of original art and composing music. The only songs I can make are really surreal and dissonant (basically, copy-pasting various beats over each other). And I can do art editing in a pinch (even stuff like blending in the colors that got messed up from 256 conversion) but not outright from scratch drawings. And I can code like a genius with common events, but I don't know the first thing about Ruby script. But I usually don't need it.

I'm mostly just suggesting ideas because I'm tied up (more blocked than anything) with my own game. Though if anyone wants to help me finish it (all that's left is about five floors on a bonus puzzle dungeon), I'd actually consider getting involved as a programmer/artist/etc.

...

Erp, hi. >0<"/

(I wonder if I'm the only one who remembers agreeing to help?..)

Umm, i would not mind doing art or illustrations.
I think I mentioned something about that vaguely in march or something.. But yea, I'm here now. I've been watching ur game development thread for a pretty long while.

If its things like sketches, lines, or portraits, I can do them in sai; but i can do any actual like full-on illustrations in photoshop.

I hope I can help? Im also... Apparently pretty great at scripting, composing, and spriteing. And im trained in first-aid and have a medical dictionary/procedure book.
Let's do this. >< >:2
shinyjiggly
Don't be shy!
Pop into one of the character topics and help us design some of the characters!

(Also, don't take it personally, but after looking over your past posts, I can conclude that you should probably use a spell-check while working here to look professional. It's kind of like wearing a uniform or something.)
Sparrowsmith
welcome aboard!

Most of our current stuff is just batting ideas around (as you'll know from reading the topics) but if you like anything you see then art assets are always great to get the ball moving.
It's an open volunteer project, so we're happy for all the help we can get. Get stuck in, it's actually great fun biggrin.gif also, if you have any ideas regarding the gameplay itself, or just something we don't have a thread for yet, then feel free to start a new thread (though it's sometimes better to ask if there's an area for it first wink.gif )
Magical_RuNE_Knight2001
Thanks guys. ><

@Shiny: And yes, I see what you mean shiny. Although I will miss my chat speak and have a hard time adapting, lol. D:
But I'll try.

@Sparrow: Thank you. And that's okay, discussion is good. (!)
I have been watching the Rosetta discussion for some time though, and I might get something for you guys later today or tomorrow.

Group work is indeed pretty fun. biggrin.gif
Kaust
Hey guys, you've probly noticed I'm not posting around this area much anymore (not really very active on the forums at all tbh), so yeah, you should probably find a new director guy, even though you're doing fine without, I just don't want credit for something I havent really helped out all that much on. I'll still help out now and then but I am just crazy busy irl sorry sweat.gif
bulmabriefs144
I guess that makes me or Sparrow the de facto director in the mean time. But still, we'd need some serious progress because I have a short attention span, and I have no idea about Sparrow's schedule.
kayden997
Alright, I've set you guys at the current directors and co-managers. If anything else needs to be sorted out just PM or post
Sparrowsmith
Well I've recently moved away from my parents and am now doing the whole self-sufficient thing, which is why I've been scarce lately.
However, I'm still very much a believer in this project. What we really need are more people involved, but to do that we need to raise awareness. If I'm being honest, we haven't moved as far as we should have. It's demanding with such a small number of people actively contributing, and we're not really as active as we could be anyway.

My point is, we need to produce something. Even if it's rough, we have to show we're not all talk. That this is a project we intend to see through, and others should be interested in joining.
Lets pick this back up guys.
Redd
If you need voices for it... I'd be glad to do voice-overs. Just let me know what character I should be in and I'll try my best x)
Also, if we're gonna' do a song that needs vocals, if someone makes the instrumental part I'll do the vocals.
I don't know if this is any use to you, but you never know xD
bulmabriefs144
Can someone take over as director? I can give ideas when people are active but I suck at leadership.
MEands
What does being the director require? I could take over if you'd like, I just finished a huge project and so I'll be having more time on my hands as of now.

Also, I know a few artists that might be interested in doing character art if we need any.

Just making sure you keep a focus for everyone to work on. You basically have the final say in anything that happens

Mainly just keep the project going and try to motivate people with ideas. More or less, what everyone does, but with the added thing of trying to motivate input.

After awhile, it just sorta stalled, and I didn't know how to start it up again.
MEands
I could take over then. I think I have some ideas to motivate people. Just gimme a couple days.
