Here you can post a screenshot of a particularly well designed map or level you're proud of. No critique should be given here, rather it's just an archive of good level and map designs for anyone to contribute to. It is not limited to an engine and therefore not limited to aesthetic pieces. It can even be a great blueprint for a fun level.

Please spoiler large images!

Do not double post, if you are wanting to post another screenshot the please edit your previous post.

The purpose of this thread is to show off maps & level designs you are particularly proud of.

To allow posting of critique on here would mean that this is a thread where people can post low quality work as well. This is not the case. This entire forum board is for that. It is for compiling maps and levels you need help on for your entire game that these screenshots are a part of. The purpose of that is to keep all screenshots and designs in context.

No, rather this topic is to display very high quality, aesthetically pleasing maps or cohesive level designs that people can look at and learn from, and imitate. For that reason please do not post critique here. That is what the forum is for, not this topic.
You may, however, compliment peoples screenshots, as that IS what this is for.

This is not the old Screenshot Thread.
Direct questions to the Q&A topic, do not post questions about the screenshot showoff thread here.

If you do want to give critique to someone because you noticed an error in their mapping, please PM them. Do not reply to this thread.

That one tree is overlapping the castle graphic, might want to fix that.

I think you should be able to give critique, just not make it required.
It's just weird to me that you're not allowed to give someone compliments/help/criticism.
darkhalo
Yes, critique should be allowed, it would be a worthless exercise to post them in otherwise.
Example...recent screens I posted up brought attention to the text font not being clear to read...so it was changed wink.gif .
Simple feedback, but actually very important feedback.
Lets just resume the ole screenshot thread !
Adding some S shots tomorrow happy.gif yessss .

This is not the old Screenshot Thread.
Direct questions to the Q&A topic, do not post questions about the screenshot showoff thread here.

EDIT: If you do want to give critique to someone because you noticed an error in their mapping, please PM them. Do not reply to this thread.
Albino Parakeet
Then you wouldn't mind if I started a Screenshot Critique thread and based it off of the old screen shot topic, as long as it's in this forum?
Titanhex
Please ask your questions in the Q&A board thread. First verbal warning.

Answer: That defeats the purpose of the board. Your screenshots and level designs should be neatly organized in a topic relevant to the game you're working on, with a list of any questions about the screenshot or design you want answered.

EDIT: By the way, Lydyn, I love the aesthetics of your map. The use of reflections on the tiled floor is genius to adding that pristine look to it.

Hi guys I've got more screenies to show off from my new and exciting upcoming project!

This is the overworld map of the world of tyranneusousterraearthfinalfantasy.
It's got snowy forests and mountains in the north because that's how geography is, am i right?
Anyways, let's move on.

This is the playable map of the mountain area in the world map that you saw above. If you didn't see the world map, i encourage you to because it's pretty good. bUT ANYWAYS oops sorry caps but anyways you can see that there a cave on the cliff. i Thought it was preetty neato-burrito to add a feature because sometimes geography is like that. but it has trees to so that is kind of nice.

Thi sis the inside of the cave that I was talking about. If you're like, "huh? what cave, albino parakeet?" then you should look above this pic ^
Anyways it's pretty cool it has a summonign cirlce and railroads like a real cave and has a giant stone and a crystal by it. As you can probably tell, it will be a huge plot element in the game so stay tuned and don't look at the picture if you don't want anything spoiled.

So as you can plainly see, my mapping got a lot better from the first map I ever posted. These can be used as examples of goo dmapping so you can too be good at maping like myself.

As this is a thread to showcase what you believe is good mapping, I am allowing your map as I do not believe it is I or the Staff's place to filter through this thread and tell people that their maps aren't good enough.

That said, I also acknowledge you are undermining the thread. This may be haha funny, but it is also unfair to the new map makers who come to this thread looking for inspiration or direction. It is for them that I made this thread.

You are not allowed to post any comments about your pictures from this post (#11) til 30 posts (#41) have passed in this thread or you will receive an increase in your warn level. Please vent your frustrations soundly and courteously in the Forum Feedback thread. ~Titanhex

Here is another screen:

Too bad my indoor mapping isn't my strong point, or as good as this, in my opinion.

A couple of forest screens taken from new maps yesterday. (Converted into working tilesets)

Forest features and route selections.

Wow, I love the look of that.

The maps look like they have multiple directions, is it still the basic left right up down, or can you move in other directions?

Haha, thats a feasible question as the walking sprite is facing the same way to the right.
Yes, the movement is 8 way happy.gif , as is the mapping to suit.
This imposed quite an issue with event detection....and sprites not facing true directions (eg) npc's.
Answered with a little eventing....though not perfect. Has been a mammoth task.
Last BR Sc shot until its new game thread merges. yes.gif

@Zinx_therpgmaker
I simply love the snow map! Ahh... It brings back memories because of the green water.
Nicely done!

@darkhalo
I love the 'real' feel to these maps. I do wonder if it's pixel movement. That would be wicked!

@Sailerius
I! Love! It! Reminds me of a game I played (forgot which). Yeah, it looks very professional. Now all you need is to make it an FPS, place some guards, and you have yourself an epic fight.
Essenceblade
@darkhalo; Those screenshots are really nice, but my eye picked up on a little spelling mistake first! tongue.gif I'm pretty sure you'd have it covered though. Shalla has misspelled "I've" that's all. tongue.gif Nice work though.

@Zinx_Therpgmaker; I like that, I really do. I've never been a fan of mapping snow terrain for some reason, but that's looking nice.

And now a few from me. *Almost* completed this title screen, just a few minor adjustments and it'll be done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And I'm finalizing a bit of the past version of the first area you go to.

Zinx10
Thanks Kayden and Essenceblade! If I only could get past the painful eventing (Making a unique battle style is difficult), I could start my mapping.
Kaust
That is a great title screen Essence, your other screen is also really good, the colour scheme is so vivid but doesn't clash at all. Really great work thumbsup.gif

@Darkhalo; What engine are you using? Your screens look like a real game (I mean they look about PS quality, rather than my feeble SNES-at-best rm attempts).

Thank ye kindly. As you can see, I like to edit and recolour the REFMAP resources a lot. To be honest I should've gone for a leafy brown sort of colour for the grass, but because it is a "past" sort of area, I decided to jig it up a bit a lot.
darkhalo
@Ocean's. Lovely map....and I particularly like those walking sprites. thumbsup.gif

This project nicely in progress....and a further peek despite a game thread yet to come.

All battles are now team based re enemy...and a highlight on magic levels too.

That's absolutely gorgeous. The fact that it's in isometric too is mind-boggling. I'll be eagerly awaiting this game's release!

Wow Ruikiri I take it you're making a dragonball z game? I like the grass! smile.gif

I'm currently working on a side Project with my own original graphics based on my old childhood comics. Now the sprites aren't perfect as they were made by me. Here's a shot of a character charging up. The graphics for the RTP have been edited to suit my own artistry. I know it's not that good but it's the best I can do as I don't make graphics.

Note: Purpose of screenshot wasn't for extreme detail and design skill. It was for testing my graphic editing and designing.

The zombie game Vexus? The scrambled tv reception is a very nice touch, judging from the darkness presumably there's no electricity though?

I couldnt add attachments to my latest project thread so here they are (my first spriting attempts, nothing too technical but I'm pretty proud with how well they came out);

Yes it's that game still very early in progress I'm taking it slow.

As shown by the time on the top right it's night time (Using a time script that tints maps during day/night and can add custom lights from itself.) there is electricity. (Tough there won't be everywhere) Clocks for example make the tic tac noise and the tv will have the static sound tough it can be turned off/on as it's annoying.

In this map there are some lamps etc that provide light sources I just want to utilize the darkness to it's full capabilities. (Say for example I'm using a script that lets me make the room I am in lit while the other rooms darker until I enter in the next room and the previous room gets darker.)

Yes apart of the colour red for blood.

WIP on a game I'm using mostly my own resources. The bat wasn't created by me. I know it's not good but I'm trying to create this game based on my old comics which I've lost so they cannot be forgotten.

Going down the emergency exit stairs at 3:00 am:

(Still not 100% sure about the sign I made telling you on what floor you currently are as it's kinda big.)
darkhalo
Some really good screens there Vexus. In that particular game genre, yes, lighting is crucial, and so far this is looking good.
As for the floor level sign.....I'd say its perfectly okay.

A one off screen of the BR project. Yeap, pre rendered backgrounds and they need to come alive.
This is one map which is a village with many water features....so I added character effects with waterfall animations.
The lower one is a little sharp on the right....and graphics I picked up from VX, otherwise the top two I created myself.
Vexus
Very beautiful scenery there darkhalo, must take you a very long amount of time to create those tilesets.

Saul95, I don't get what you're trying to indicate.
Saul95
What I mean is that your screens has a graphic from the NES, not SNES.
UPRC
Yes, I'm quite aware of that having grown up during the NES era. The graphics I'm using are mostly from Dragon Warrior 4 and Final Fantasy 3 along with a few edits and/or originals.

Inspired by =/= using the graphics of. Not sure where you got me saying I was using SNES graphics from, but it's all good. wink.gif
Pal88
I think he got a bit confused after you saying that you got inspiration from snes games as well.
Overall though they look nice for NES graphics smile.gif

A Game now completed wink.gif .
Before any forthcoming official game thread, I thought I'd put up a screen or two.....and meantime show it off happy.gif .
All maps in game allowing an 8 way directional movement. By no means perfect, but certainly cheerful for Rmxp...
It actually works.
