Hello!

This is my first ever title screen using RPG Maker VX. Though, it is just a still image, I did use the "Mog title screen miria" script with some some very minor things changed (like no wavy title).

All graphics save the actual font were drawn by me. The background is actually a default photoshop fill pattern.

I am by no means a scripter( just started using VX) so any tips/advice(like a smooth animation when selecting options i.e. new game, etc.) is most certainly welcomed!

Wow, you have some very good elements within that image. Contrast between the background and the foreground is beautifully done. =]

Nice work. happy.gif
I've love to see more artwork from this game.
Lanili
Thank you! =]

I don't have much for the artwork aspect of it yet but I can at least show the drawing process for the dragon graphic in the title screen:

I just overlayed some color for the 3rd pic. I don't really like it but I can always change it to a different color/pattern.
X-M-O
That's brilliant. ^^
I love the greyscale version, and the copper colour isn't bad though I'd recommend using light hues of eucalyptus green and pale blue (or sunny yellow and royal purple) to see what they look like.

One thing I noticed though, is when you went from the first sketch to the shaded greyscale version, you took out some detailed features from the dragon that looked good in the sketch - was just wondering if you didn't like them in the shaded greyscale version or if there was a particular reason for that. (One more noticeable trait that was removed, is under the chin.)
Lanili
I have always had a fondness for my draft sketches myself, then greyscale. My goal was to create a neutral or "all powerful" dragon type and that's why I chose those colors. But your colors would work too, I think all I have to do is make a color pattern that fits that description. I would love to use this drawing as a portrait or face and to use as a character in my so called game. xD

As for the sketch to greyscale process:

I tend to make a layer over the sketch and start putting in detail that way. That means I tend to go over and change some detail, but I try not to make it so drastic unless called for. One thing though that I just caught is that I don't particularly like the way the jaw came out, I was trying to make it look more rocky and scaely like the head and neck. I can always go back in and change that too.( I think that was what you were talking about too?)
Sakura Phoenix
Very lovely art style you got there.

I do enjoy when artist show their process and it's really cool to see how the dragon changed from sketch to the final product. I do also have a fondness for the greyscale and the overlaid version more so than the final product, but that's just my personal preference.

Yes, that's what I was talking about. happy.gif
Artists are usually able to see their own errors better than anyone else (to a certain degree), but there are some times where others can point things out better because they haven't been looking at it the entire process of it being created.
But anyway, yeah, you know exactly what I was meaning. ^^
supercow
its very nice thumbsup.gif although i didnt quite like the dragon on the final product, the colour is.....uh..look unnatural.
how about just desaturate the dragon?
X-M-O
If you're going to desaturate the dragon, then you'll need to make the darker areas more dark and the lighter areas more light - in other words it needs to be bolder.
Lanili
I agree with X-M-O, but if I did make it greyscale, don't you think it would look a little odd with so much grey in the middle while the text is black too? I think the reason the dragon color looks odd is because of the greenish/teal color in the gradient.

So I'm going to keep the gradient but I took out the teal looking in excahnge for a more blue hue:

I'll try to post some concept artwork the next time I post!
X-M-O
I think that looks better than having the greenish colour in there, and I agree that you probably don't want to go black/white on your logo unless the entire theme is meant to be black/white.

That looks so awesome!! I can not do Titles and writing and cool looking things like that for the life of me !! xDD;
Do you draw people too? If so I can't wait to see the rest of your artwork!! biggrin.gif!

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for the compliments! I love doing graphics like titles and stuff. It's pretty easy when you practice enough. =)
I do draw people as well and here is one character:

The character's design may change. I was thinking I should add some type of armor/clothing or just go with scales or something.
She doesn't have a name yet or even a title, so yeah :>
There will be two more characters like this. They will also have their own patron seal to reflect their "class?" type.
I will explain more about the characters as I finish drawing them. =)

I would also like to add that the art of the breath of fire series (3 and 4 to be exact) is my inspiration!
Caebrillia
Wow! That is really nice!! I love your colouring style, the way you coloured her skin looks so neat!!
Did you draw that seal too?? @_@!
Lanili
Thanks =DDD Yes, I also drew the seal too. =) I may also change some things about that too,
Sakura Phoenix
Very lovely, defo see the inspiration from BoF style and coloring. It's quite nice, and the seal is great too.
I like videogame art myself, and it's where I also take inspiration from on occasion ^^
Hirei
I'm very impressed by your work! Do you happen to have a DeviantArt or some other place that you show your artwork?
Fateliante
Your artwork is very impressive, Lanili! happy.gif I absolutely love your character design, great idea adding an animal/creature attribute to it, it must have taken some time to get the proper shading down. In fact, it reminds me exactly how I imagined my hybrid characters to look like in my game. Can't wait to see the finished product. happy.gif

I love video game concept art. I'd actually love to get my hands on a couple of books.
Thank you for the comments! =)

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I don't own a dev count, however I did have a blogger account that's is now deleted, but I plan on making abother one. For now, I just post my work related to my so-called "game" here xD, I'm still a vx beginner.

Ah, thank you! =D I plan on working more on all my characters. It sucks because my scanner is out of commission at the moment and I draw a lot in my sketchbook. But I'll be sure to post more in the near future.

That character color reminds me of bastion
my only gripe would be the face. The shading seems a bit weird and the lineart of the the face seems disproportionate and anime skewed. Esp with the loose coloring i think that the character would benefit from tighter proportions

but seriously i love the loose coloring its really neat and would love to see the finished thing (with clothes and whatnot!)
Lanili
Long time no post!
I was trying to get a scanner in order(my old one died :[ ). But I got one from my sis and scanned some drawings!
This is a "team shot" I suppose, It's a work in progress:

Wow, it's looking great thus far. ^^
You've got some very good skills with shading and colouring (and the clothes/weapons designs are really amazing). ^^
HunterFox
I'm officially jealous. I mean, I went to school for four years to hone my drawing skills... and my stuff is crap. You, on the other hand... some awesome stuff.

What technique do you use to colour the team picture? I ask because it almost looks like watercolour painting. If you could do a whole game in that style, that'd rock.

Nanashi
Amazing work you have there! biggrin.gif I can't wait until you finish it and see it all come together~ It really does have the Breath of Fire look to it! When did you decide to go with the coloring/shading technique you have?
