MrGuy0250
Hey alls, as the topic implies, I write music. Here is said music.

http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1

Latest Pieces:
"Critical Battle"
"Eden's Gateway" Title Theme
Celdin's Theme

You can use them if you wish (ask first!), but this is more so a thread to ask for critiques on newer pieces for my project instead of handing out free music.

Most, if not all, of the pieces I'll be posting now will be for a game. If it doesn't start with "Eden's Gateway," then the music is able to be used as long as you get my permission... just don't expect to see any games that don't start with that game title.

Happy listening smile.gif

Update: Holy hell, it's been too long since I've been around to post compositions. I had to help my dad with his new landscaping business over the summer to keep a roof over our heads, so I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to compose. On top of that, my laptop broke for a third damn time, meaning I couldn't even get full pieces done. But, I just built a new PC (first build, quite rewarding to use a PC you made on your own biggrin.gif) and am back in school, meaning I have ample time in between classes to do what I love and then bring it home to finalize. Basically, I'm back :3

Aevum, unfortunately, went under, so the pieces I'll be posting will be for a game I would like to make... but I have very little knowledge of RPG Maker nor do I have time to learn, so it probably won't happen tongue.gif But, if anyone is willing to adopt the story (and music), that'd be nice! Be on the lookout for new pieces, because I will surely be doing everything in my power to get a few pieces written (pieces I have been quite eager to finalize) over the weekend.

I am oh so happy to be back. I hope you'll all enjoy my new works!
Stern
I absolutely love how melodic your compositions are. They're all so magnificent!

As for critique on To Battle! I think that velocity or attack of the violin's notes at 0:08 - 0:17 is a bit low. It's quite difficult to make out the melody. Especially the thrills. The rest of the song is simply amazing and does certainly fit the theme of war.
khachuchrian
great stuff man keep it up

MrGuy0250
Thanks very much for the feedback :3

Hm, I realized it was low but I didn't realize it was low to a slightly problematic extent... thank you for making that point, and I'm happy to hear it fits the war theme I was going for biggrin.gif

Just put a new piece up, quite short seeing how it will be set to a short scene. It's a simple piano piece, but that piano piece is, to an extent, just a reduction of what I have planned for the Main Theme. I'll also hopefully be putting up a piece separate from Aevum later today. Hopes you like :3
Stern
The Aevum Chapter 1 Intro is awesome. I can't wait for the full version for the main theme.

/Followed on Soundcloud
MrGuy0250
Thank you once again, Sir Stern. The Main Theme is something I'm looking forward to, though I need to wait for Lydyn's word for that tongue.gif

Anyway, my laptop was out of commission for a few weeks. yay faulty hard drives. But now I'm back, so here's more music :3 This one would be the boss theme for Aevum's first chapter. Lydyn gave me no specifics in terms of feel like he did with the battle theme, so I kinda just went... hope its good smile.gif

http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1/a-soldi...t-aevum-chapter!
Stern
Oh holy hell! That was one hell of a boss battle. I'd wish that the melody was more clear during some parts, but besides that, Holy hell!

The project that will have such good music should be lucky. Very lucky.
X-M-O
Wow, I agree with Stern on this one. O.O

A Soldier's Might is absolutely breathtaking. ^^
I think it is more suited for "A Soldier's March" though, as it doesn't have the boss battle feeling in my opinion; it is beautiful nonetheless. happy.gif
mrhawi
Dude, that boss theme was AWESOME!!, i dont know why i didn“t listened before, the song reminds me to pirates of the caribbean, sounds very orchestrated, and is epic!, really, i imagine an epic fight against a boss (the sound quality is amazing, that vst that used sounds very realistic), by the way, the theme is awesome, i don't have much time right now, but im sure that i will listen your other songs, great job, keep rockin'. =)
MrGuy0250
Eeeee nice to see the boss theme was a success. I can see how it doesn't fit the boss fight fill X-M-O since it isn't the most fast paced or intense piece in the world, but I would hope it would do the job to an extent tongue.gif Thanks for the feedback all smile.gif

Onwards to new stuff...

So my computer broke... again... for the same reason... just my luck hehe I was unable to finalize pieces for another week or so, so I'm a bit behind. I posted one of Aevum's Town themes a few weeks ago, but I didn't think it was enough for a new post. So I waited till now to unveil that. The link is below, but I'd much rather you listen to the second song I be postin if you only want to listen to one.

http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1/aevum-town-theme

And the second song is a big one... the Main Theme of the game :3 I wasn't able to use the melody I originally intended (main melody from the CH1 intro) seeing how the feel of it wasn't what Lydyn wanted, but I still very much enjoy how it came out. I hope you all agree. Thank you in advanced for your feedback!

The City of Telid: Aevum Town Theme is fantastic! ohmy.gif
Perfect composition!

Aevum: The Ancient's Song has a creepy tone to it at the beginning, but it's really quite decent and especially brilliant as it moves forward. happy.gif

I enjoyed listening to both songs and I think you're definitely on the right track when it comes to game music. =D
MrGuy0250
Thank you for the feedback as always, X-M-O. Good to hear I'm in the right direction.

Next up is the theme for a "headquaters" of sorts in CH 2. It's not so much a place where a group is plotting, but more so a place where the main character can relax and feel safe, hence it's title and calm feel. Enjoy!

Fateliante
Excellent song MrGuy0250, I'm pretty much rendered blown away! I really like the way this song was structured, excellent use of the bass and lead/rhythm guitar in the background of the melody, I sometimes find that bass doesn't seem to fit a few songs, but great job on that aspect. I really liked the piano lead just before it leads to the next verse. I tell you, this song has such a fluent cadence to it that it almost makes you want to waltz to it. lol From what I hear, I can pick up remnants of Final Fantasy Tactics and some Tales of Symphonia, which is really good considering both games have an astounding soundtrack, especially Tales of Symphonia. Is Safe Haven a part of your Aevum project since I'm really taking keen interest in the soundtrack. smile.gif
mrhawi
OHhh, excelent song, it has some of classical music style, at 0:37 it's awesome ohmy.gif (I loved the bassline). The title fits very well with the feeling of the song. The song reminds me to some games like Secret of Mana, but strangely in some parts reminds me to Donkey Kong country (from snes). I liked the sounds that you used, it sounds like a orchestra. You made a very good job, congrats! =).

PS: Sorry about my bad english =(.
MrGuy0250
@Fateliante: Yea, bass is a bit tough to fit in sometimes, so I'm happy to hear this one is an exception! This is indeed part of the Aevum soundtrack. Basically anything I post is part of it since Lydyn has yet to say "I have no idea what I want you to write!" hehe thanks very much to the feedback, it's always nice to be told my work is related to crazy good soundtracks like the one you said happy.gif

@MrHawi: Bad English? Psh, your English is fine, no need to apologize smile.gif I LOVVVEEE Secret of Mana, so you bringing that up brings me joy, though I have to admit, I see no relation to Donkey Kong Country music tongue.gif I actually used Edirol Orchestral for this (except for the bass and guitar), which you said you just tried in your own thread. So if you like it, well, you have full access to it xD

New piece. Weeeeee. This one is for a royal palace, so Lydyn wanted fanciness. He gave an example from Suidoken, and it sounded classical as hell. As a result, fancy classicalness. Enjoy :3

http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1/telid-palace.
Fateliante
Fancy classicalness indeed, good sir! Going back to the Baroque/Ricoco era I see? This definitely makes me glad that there are some musicians who have such a strong passion for early classical music. happy.gif I really like the soundfont you're using for your works, I understand you're using Edirol Orchestral for your soundfonts, but they bring out that uniqueness about it.
This song definitely gives me that regal feeling, it was pretty interesting to hear the harpsichord follow the melody of both the violin and double bass strings which was very well done.

Telid Palace is no different than all the other amazing compositions you have written, I can tell you that these songs are going to make a game REALLY stand out. smile.gif Looking forward to hearing more compositions. Keep it up!
X-M-O
Sorry for my absence, but now that I'm back I get to listen to these really great pieces! ^^

Safe Haven is brilliant, and the melody is perfect (something you could really hum to). happy.gif

Telid Palace is yet another amazing piece! All of those "professional" castle/palace tracks are put to shame. wink.gif
(Yeah, classical music is romantic and I love it, lol. This really sounds like it could have been put into The King's Speech film.)
MrGuy0250
@Fataliante: Hehe I'm quite fond of classical music. Modern music wouldn't exist without Bach and the boys tongue.gif I don't think I'm the only one that uses Edirol, so I'm not sure how using it is giving a unique sound... but hell, I'll take it xD I very much hope my music will help the game stand out. If it doesn't, then that means my job could've been done better. And I don't want to have the game done and think that hehe

@X-M-O: Saying my piece could've been put into an award winning film? Wowie, I'm flattered. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the pieces... and also am happy to hear you enjoy a nice dosage of classical music tongue.gif

Thank you both for the feedback as always. Lydyn was busy over the past few days, and as a result left me with nothing to do for the first time since I joined in on the game. As a result, I did something I said I would do for a few months now: rework "To Battle!", or a good chunk of it at least. Listening to it, I enjoyed the second half but thought it strayed too much from the first halves feel. So I sought to amend that. I hope I did a good job :3

http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1/to-battle
X-M-O
To Battle! totally matches the emotions you might have when first rushing into battle; most importantly the sound of expected victory (which is how most primary battles begin - both sides feeling that they will be victorious). It feels right, for its name, and I think if you were to have a "hopeless battle" version of this song it would really add some depth to the game you're putting this in. (In terms of having more than one type of battle music; one for the initial battles in the game, or very important battles that relate to the story, and then one for battles that might be intended for failure or that aren't as crucial to the game.) Just an idea, not sure if it is relative to the game you're working on. =]
mrhawi
Telid Palace: This tune is very enjoyable. I love that change of rythim that is at 0:41, it's beautiful. And around 1:07 I can imagine me dancing with a maiden on a palace or some fancy place. Another thing, at the start, the song reminded me to a Creedence Clearwater Revival song xD (down on the corner). I loved this track!. excelent job!

To Battle: At the start reminds me to the main theme of pirates of the caribbean . Well I imagine a battle but not a typical battle from an RPG, I imagine an epic battle between 2 armies, also I can imagine the previous moment of a battle, that moment where soldiers and generals of the army talk about win the battle. This OST sounds like a movie OST. It's an awesome work!, good job!. Oh! I forgot something, the theme fits perfectly with the song.

PS: Sorry about my bad english, I hope that you understand what I'm saying xD.
Fateliante
Hey MrGuy0250, nice job touching up on To Battle, I haven't had a real chance to listen to the previous submission, but my thoughts are that this song has that memorable feeling about it, what I mean is that it has that feeling of epicism and I'm certain the song is going to fit accordingly to a very important scene in the game that Lydyn is developing. This sounds like a battle between two important nations fighting til' the very end. It kind of reminds me of another song which I can't put my finger on it right now (Kingdom Hearts for some odd reason comes to mind but I know it's not from that) and a pirate-like edge to it, kind of like Pirates of the Carribean as mrhawi mentioned.
This is definitely one of your more epic themes and a job well done at that! smile.gif
Stern
The City of Telid' - Such a sweet piece! It sounds like it could fit for a moderately busy town. Peaceful, yet very upbeat and catchy.

The Ancient's Song - Brilliant. This piece is incredible. Every time I listen to another piece of yours I keep getting so "inspired" (see: jealous!). The climax comes a bit late for a main theme though, but as a composition on it's own it's absolutely brilliant.

Safe Haven - Gives of a warmthy feeling. I imagine a summer/spring day in a peaceful smaller village/outpost. A Farmer's village maybe. Again, excellent composition.

Telid' Palace - Harpsichoooooord! Such a unique instrument. This'd definately fit in a Castle ball room, with a bunch of nobles dilly-dallying about. As with all the other pieces, very well made.

To Battle! - I like the new version a lot. To Battle is such a great piece. Even the first version blew me away and now this? Way to raise the bar tongue.gif.

Sorry for the short and concise feedback, but I've got a ton of threads and songs to plow through!

As always, keep it up!
MrGuy0250

Just so this revival post has a little more purpose, here's a link to a piece I wrote for Lato months ago. It's a victory theme, so it's very short (I intended to unveil this and a character theme at the same time, but that piece never got finished). Consider it a taste before my full return smile.gif http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1/kingdom-rpg-victory-theme

I am oh so happy to be back. I hope you'll all enjoy my new works!
Fateliante
Holy hell is right lol, welcome back MrGuy0250! biggrin.gif Sounds like you had quite a busy summer overall, hope it went well. It's really too bad to hear that Aevum went under, was kinda looking forward to how it would pan out. Nothing tastes as bitter when something you hope to accomplish goes under. :\ But anyways, good to hear that you're going to be more active in writing more music since I really like your compositions, was starting to wonder for awhile if you had no time for it anymore.
By the way, really good job on the Victory Theme for Lato's project, you can for sure here that feeling of epicism along with Roman influences. wink.gif
X-M-O
Welcome back, MrGuy0250! I'm glad things worked out for you and your family. ^^

I love the victory theme, and it definitely matches Lato's Kingdom game. Good use of trumpets! wink.gif
Shaddow
Welcome back! That's a really good victory theme, you've got me impressed and glad for your return! RRR has an unending need for talented people!
MrGuy0250
D'aww, always nice to be welcomed back so warmly :3 Thank you for that everyone!

Down to business. This theme is a character theme for one of the antagonists of my game (Children of Caliga, for the record tongue.gif), Bartholomew. He's someone of the highest class, and is also a douchebag, so I tried to give it a mix between a regal (if that's the right word...?) and dark feel. What I'm posting is the "final" copy... final being in quotes because I feel like something is missing, but I have no idea what. So, I'm hoping someone's critique will open my eyes. If not, I still think it came out pretty well, though it's certainly not my best.

My friends came down from college this weekend, meaning I haven't been plowing through the compositions like I claimed I'd be. But they leave tomorrow and I'm off. So I'm hoping to get a good chunk of the next piece done: The Barholomew Battle Theme. Until then, enjoy this!

http://soundcloud.com/emfb-music-1/the-children-of-caliga
X-M-O
I love it! ^^
I think you should have the cymbal happening less often, but it's really a neat tune (has the light/regal and dark themes throughout, but they don't impede on each other). Great job overall! happy.gif
mrhawi
Kingdom RPG Victory: Really fits on a victory theme (actually, it reminds me to the clasic FF's "Victory Fanfare"). I like the instruments that you chosed, and specially the orchestrated sound (I guess that you use vsts like edirol orchestra or something like that). I loved this theme, though it's a bit short, but that's ok since it only plays after a battle.

The Children of Caliga: This is my favorite style, sounds like a villain theme (It reminds me to kefka from FF6, I don't know why, maybe for the feeling in the song). My fav part was around 0:29-0:43, that part is epic, I really loved it. And again, I like the instruments that you used (I love this kind of music). Exellent work in this one, dude!

PS: Sorry, my English is not very good, I hope that there are no misunderstanding.
MrGuy0250
First of MrHawaii, your english is fine! You don't need to apologize about it every post xD And I was actually thinking the same thing when I finished it in terms of Bartholomew's theme reminding you of Kefka. The character resembles Kefka a good deal, actually... well, in my head he does at least since he hasn't been created xD

Thanks for the feedback you two. Now, I said last time that the next theme would be the boss theme for Bartholomew. Well! I lied. I hit a nasty snag on it and still can't get around it whlle feeling satisfied. Judging that I spent too much time on it, leaving a gap here, I wrote another theme instead: Celdin's Theme, the main character of the game. It's heroic, but not in an epic battle sense. More so inspiring. A big reason for that is because during a certain scene in the game where he's giving a badass speech (as long as it's written well, at least) to an army before one of the final battles, his theme would start playing. So I not only gave that feel because it does fit his personality, but also because I think this would be bamf to listen to during that scene lolol

Celdin's Theme
X-M-O
I think Celdin's Theme is very regal and has a sense of pride intertwined within the melody.
It's beautiful. happy.gif
MrGuy0250
Thank you for the comment as always, X-M-O. Glad you liked it smile.gif

So! I said I'd post that boss theme, I believe. Well. Lied again. I was composing other non-game stuff and kinda put that off lol but now I'm back with game music... just not that one. I present to you the "Eden's Gateway" Title Theme! A game by Lydyn. It isn't Aevum, but I'm writing for him once more. I'm quite happy about it, especially because he always keeps me busy tongue.gif Enjoy!

O_O
An absolutely brilliant melody! I fell in love with it immediately. ^^

I had to turn up my volume because it's rather quiet up until about 30 seconds into it, but this is simply an amazing piece. happy.gif
Jonnie19
That is a really awesome track. A few little edits with the final mix and then it would be perfect. I love the dynamics of the track, The crescendo in the middle of the track was extremely powerful and the ending with the single harp was a brilliant surprise....

Great job smile.gif
mrhawi
Eden's Gateway: I loved this tune, it reminds me to castlevania (and some other games of SNES). I think, I can place this song on an intro scene or on a magic valley or something like that, I loved the harp and my favorite part was 0:30 - 0:50. Excellent word, it was amazing =)
MrGuy0250
Ah, Audio section of forum, long time no see! I've been focusing on the more basic area's of composition for a bit, really working hard on developing strong chord progressions and melodies and making sure transitions are smooth. I only just recently started composing full scale stuff due to being offered a job for a game. Today I share the first track I wrote for it: "Critical Battle" which will be played during battles of the most critical nature (AKA: Boss Battles). Expect more, enjoy!

would like to buy the rights to that clip.

Reminds me of the Castle Crashers opening. laugh.gif
That is an amazing clip you have there, you willing to do business? I'm looking for an audio guy for Digital Hijinks.

I mean, that's at least Single A game composition right there.

I did not expect such a fast response lol PM me and we'll discuss. I may or may not be able to help, it depends on if I think I'd be able to handle the workload of the project I'm on and yours.

And thank you for the comment! Happy to hear this came out well.

I think I accidentally sent you two copies of my message, sorry about that, my internet was actin up.

Incase your wondering about the game, there is a link in my sig. It might not look like much, but development has been sky rocketing. I've already almost got the base framework already finished.
MrGuy0250
New piece!

This one is similar to the previous one seeing how it's the battle theme to the same game. All epic and stuffs. I hope you all enjoy!
