Full Version: Default XP resources in paid games??
RPG RPG Revolution Forums > Game Engines > RPG Maker XP Discussion

Ok so I was doing some research on selling my game and where to post and just all around finding info. I started looking at alot of the games being sold that were made using RPG maker xp, and I see that alot of the graphics are just default XP RTP, so I was kinda like what the hell, as I have not heard or know much about this.

So my question is this, what are the rules on using the default RTP in games you sell? Is there a amount you can or cant use, what permission if any do you need. Is there just a simple list of things you need to do to sell your game? dos and don'ts?

As long as you possess a license (read: you have not pirated the engine), you can sell a game with the RTP. All the RTP if you desire so.

Wow...that was simple. But dont I need a custom save system or some kind of mod kit?? I know there was a topic on here a long time ago about the things you have to do to your game to sell it, like the stuff above or the large screen change, or has all that changed?
Kread-EX
It depends. Certain portals require special features in order to accept a game, such as mouse support for instance. In those cases, either you code the feature yourself or use a public script which you have rights to use in commercial projects. Amaranth had compiled a list of things that portals require: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=35647.

Ultimately, in order to make your game worthwhile to be bought, you most likely have to use more than the RTP. The point is just that you can legally use it.

Can I sell my games created with RPG Maker XP/VX and its game materials included in (or added on to) the software?

Yes, you can distribute games you created with RPG Maker XP/VX or IG Maker, using its included (or added on) materials, as freeware or commercial ware. You are also allowed to modify the materials with other software such as Photoshop, provided they are only used within RPG Maker or IG Maker software, and not sold/or distributed. You can also include your own graphics and music if you wish. Please ensure that those games do not include any material which infringe others' rights.

Please note that any modification of the exe, dll, or other game files generated by RPG Maker or IG Maker is forbidden. Also, you may not use the materials included in the software (or add-on package) within other game engines or software.

Is it possible to release (distribute and sell) games I make with RPG MAKER VX?

Yes. Well I have read all the info and it makes sense, however since differnt sites have differnt req for games sold this script kit stuff has become a problem, the mouse script does not work well with custom scripts at all and has created many errors. Its funny you should mention Amaranth cause I was wanting to upload it on his/her site to sell, but im not sure if THAT site requires the mouse script to sell, all other scripts are working fine. If anyone knows if you do need the mouse script plz tell me happy.gif

Other than that this has been VERY helpful, as long as I get this mouse script figured out ill be really close to having my game done.

Well, just try to submit it via their form: http://www.amaranthia.com/modules/liaise/?form_id=9.
They don't accept nudity, violence, or games with rips (obviously). If they don't accept yours, they'll probably tell you why.
Jens of Zanicuud
What do you mean when saying "violence"? Guns, blood & stuff like this? Or are you referring to anything else?
I apologise for the question, but my English is not perfect and sometimes I can misunderstand what I read...

Violence?? The games one that site have dead bodies shown as the screen pic...you mean like HARDCORE blood and violence right?
I could just submit it but I would feel kinda stupid if I just submitted it when I dont even know if they want that script, after all it was he/she that made the topic with it listed. Still I guess I have nothing to lose. However it does seem you have to have your own business or at least business name to be accepted there, and that costs a good bit of money and time.. So there im not sure what to do about that.
Kread-EX
They state "excessive violence" so yeah, I'd say it should be accepted as long as it's not into "MISTER BIG T territory".

Just for a heads up, Arcade Town doesn't need any special features for their submitted games. So you could just compile your RPG Maker game and send it off to them, basically. I shot em a message awhile back,

comments: Hi, I had a few questions regarding submitting RPG Maker games.
I'm sure you've already had some experience with this, seeing as you've
accepted games such as Aveyond, made by Amaranthia.com.
While developing our rpg games, we like to run a project developtment forum,
usually with a demo. Would this be allowed? Would you need anything such as
mouse support? Full screen? I've read through your rules and understood
everything else.

Please get back to me on this.

Thanks,
Michael

And this was their response.

Short answer, nope. Demos are limited to 60 minute trials of the full
version with unlock key only (we make that build).

Also, the pay rate for the developer(creator of the game) gets 40% Gross Net. It seems kind of low to me, but I guess that has to do with there being no big requirements.
Lato
This is very useful info, always good to have options, 40% is a bit low but just to have the success makes it worth it I think. Sadly I am still having a problem with game length, hopefully my topics get some replys soon.
