Full Version: Issue with VX-Ace Monopaced Fonts

I just realized that VX-Ace force monopaced fonts during the rendering of the game, and apparently, there are no properties in the bitmap class to change that… monopaced fonts are cool when you want each characters to occupy the same amount of horizontal space but if you watch this screenshot you’ll notice that larger characters like “m” or “w” are squeezed.

VX-ACE (monopaced, but ugly squeezed characters...)

Same font used in the VX-Ace Text Editor, or in old VX engine (better for what I want to achieve)

I want to use the same font visual style as my previous project and the result simply looks horrible in VX-Ace...

Anyone know if there’s a way to overcome this issue?

Are you using custom font in your game?
That could be the problem.
If not, that's very strange.
It could also be the font file you have.
I'm just throwing thoughts out there

Never saw that myself either. Must be your font or eventually a script.

Hey guys, the example I've shown above is the default font by Enterbrain, and I haven't installed any scripts.

What I'm trying to say is that, when the game run, the font is rendered differently than the actual look&feel of the real font, and letters that are larger than the fixed space of the other letters are automatically squeezed.

This image (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59740378/monopaced_font.png) clearly show it. It's the default font used in RMVX-Ace, yet pay attention and notice how the 'm's and 'w's are squeezed. Their real look isn't like this. It looks 'okay' here, nothing tragic, but it won't look okay will all custom fonts, especially when you want the look and feel to stay faithful to the actual font.

SUMMARY:

Real font should look like this ==> AUTHENTIC
But Enterbrain render the font like this in VX-Ace ==> MODIFIED BY RGSS3

It's just the default message window set up for japanese characters. It will probably be changed in the English version but for the time being, Yanfly's Ace Message Engine will fix the issue.

Forget that, I was wrong, the script uses Verdana. It's really the font. Just use a different font.
