Hello RRR! I had an idea 2 weeks ago about an Indie Gaming Network channel on youtube focused on promoting independent game developers.
It's actually quite the idea, but I wondered who off you thought I should actually go through with it. The Youtube account is already made.
The idea is based on promoting the most recognizable Independent games out there, no matter engine, RMXP/VX/ACE, Game maker you name it, the most important thing is that it is developed by a non proffesional team.
I've already asked some people for contribution towards the channel with exclusive videos of their game and they've agreed, i guess they thought it was a good idea.
the Project of the Month idea:
The project of the month idea goes out on gathering the project of the months from RRR, HBGames and other networks and put them up against each other, so we can find the ultimate project of the month. the winner has to give an exclusive video to the Indie Gaming Network channel and it would be great if we could do some review sort off thing for the project of the month.
Independent Game of the Year:
I guess everybody understands what I mean with Game of the Year. We basicly make a team at Indie Gaming Network that will decide which game was Independent GOTY
so what do people think of the idea?

Youtube is taking over the world! There is just so many things you can do with it nowdays, I think it's a great idea to have a channel for that, im surprized it wasn't done here already, now that you mention it im REALLY surprized it isnt done already since its a great idea and free to do... with so many games being made here and other places I think there would be alot of content on it. I hope this idea gets followed through and most of all gets the support of a mod/director cause this seems like something that should have its own section in the fourms.

Thanks, I really hope it get's alot of support and that people wants to take part of it, cause this can be really succesfull, if I just manage to see it through.
We already need to get alot of subscribers, so if people thinks its a good idea subscribe to this channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/IndieGN) already and we might have something going on

I'm curious, what kind of budgeting and equipment are you using?
Also does your channel have any workers located in various parts of the country? Actually, what country and/or state are you based out of?
Where do the contributions donated go?
I'm looking for anything to get a feel for how ambitious this project is, and how professionally it's done.

It's a really fresh project, if i was 18 id love to put some money into it, but I really can't. it's nothing more than a basic channel to promote other Indie games. if I had enough money and so on, Id love to do a lot more than just that.
I don't have anyone working with me on this, it's a really fresh project, that's gonna take some time to get it on track, Youtube is all about the viewer, so if you have enough viewers subscribers, you're channel is automaticly big and already proffesional.
This isn't something I do just for me, on the contrary, this is really a project about promoting other games

No worries. Not everything submitted has to be professional and organized, and that's especially true with this website (Or any RM website for that matter.)
You may lack the time, experience, equipment and money to do everything you want, but as long as you persist you'll at least have gained something.
Unfortunately without more substance and resources on your side I personally don't have the time to contribute nor can I direct you to bigger indie gaming scenes, as I fear they may be looking for more than you can provide. Luckily there are a lot of people on this and other hobbyist game maker websites that would be able to contribute.
Under the scope of your current project, I think you may have an easier time labeling this as "Hobbyist Game Development" instead of "Indie Game Development" But that is for you to decide.
Incase someone takes my tone wrong, if you simply wanted to feature my game on the channel and all I had to do was give you my consent, I'd probably be like "Oh sure, yeah!"
But the word exclusive means you own the rights to the video and I won't be allowed to feature that anywhere else. It also sounded like you want the person to create the video themselves. Neither of those ideas appeal to me, as my time is focused on my own projects.
I'm also unsure of the quality my games will be presented under. Some people may think less of my project if it's represented poorly by someone I've given my consent to.

I see what you mean...No really I do see what you mean. well we'll see how much we can pull off, but I think I am putting this project on hold for atleast a week more, it's a lot to think about lol

thanks for you're input Titanhex

Like I said I think this would be a great step up for the site, if you end up not doing it I would still pm a mod or director and tell them your idea and hopefully they pick it up, cause you dont need any money to do this and it could even make money with ads, but you need to be 18 of course. To keep RRR going strong I think this idea is a must.

I guess that would actually be great! an RRR focused channel would indeed make this site bump up to it's greatness again.

I got the pm thank you- it does seem like a very good idea. We have in the past tried to encourage members to produce videos of their games-
Will run it by the other staff and get back to you.

Suggestion for the logos; Make them more colorful!
When I first started making games I used a lot of black and white. Now I'm using more color because black and grey isn't what I want to do anymore.
If your channel is to represent indies then you should have your logos be a resemblance to that transition. I'm not saying I'd prefer a rainbow, just splashes of color here or there, don't make it unforim!
Right now? I looked at it for two seconds and thought

Thanks Cleril i'll definitely take that into consideration, Im not the most colorful person when it comes to logo design, I usually stick with one or two colors mixed with black or white, but i'll try to make an exception here

Well I am a pretentious computer graphics major!
You can keep those logos of course, for example, make the water droplet a gradient from say blue to white (either top to bottom or bottom to top). Make the circle some other kind of color. And I like the texture on the letters but why not take it a step further and make each letter have a different texture? Keep it in somewhat similar so it isn't jarring. And "Gaming Network" clashes with the graphic behind it so change the color scheme on one of them. <-- This is all about the second image.
The first image needs more work, right now it's fine, it lacks color still, but it's just too empty compared to the second one.
And if you're not using an advanced program, Gimp 2.0 is pretty much a free version of photoshop.

Hahaha...yeah I am keeping the enthusiasm up

, I was actually thinking if Kaz and the board pulls the idea through i'd do a logo competition

, even though I could just do the logo myself, I believe it's better if it comes from Indie game makers. I was thinking of opening a thread if i get the permission to carry this project out. And let the logo designers enter as many logo's as they want, then let the people pick their favorite

Think it would be great to do some sort of competition as an opening to the channel

Could always mix it up and show each of the logos randomly per episode.
Regardless, the idea sounds sexy.

Here now - sorry for delay -
We have come up with a suggestion...
To see what initial interest is you can have a topic in Theory and Design. (which we will pin)
Maybe you could run a contest - for submissions and see what the interest is.....if it proves popular we will have no problem endorsing it and promoting it for you.

I shall do that, announce an official thread tommorow; cause it's really late and if I want to wake up and go to school id better sleep. I am crossing my fingers right now and hoping for the best tommorow.
btw: Thanks for you're pm Cleril, I saw ur horror game, (the complete one) but didn't have enough time to check it out properly, but from the looks of the story line, it sounded great

I'll see you all tommorow at the new thread, thanks alot Kaz

Right now don't exclude too many games from your channel. You need the content.
Running a contest would help you out greatly. Keep your expectations and your ambitions small for now too. I'm not sure how easily you can do something in a month and the same goes for your contributors. A month goes by fast. Consider doing things in Quarters, or every 3 months, if you find the Project of the Month idea lacking content or being too much work.
We'll see how this turns out. I'm hoping for success myself. Just stick to it

Thanks, although the game was made two+ years ago so don't expect too much polish. Use any of my games how you'd like of course so long as I get credit for making them.
And I agree with Titanhex, you just want consistent content. It doesn't have to be flashy, that's just a plus, consistency is your first priority.

So we're allowed to nominate games? Or do we have to submit games to the RRR forum?
I could go and ask fellow colleagues if they would like to submit some of their Game Simulation course projects here.

Since the OP may take a while gettng back to you:
He's so far only stated that we can PM him any games we want him to do videos on.
