Hi everyone, I was wondering if it's possible to use images instead of tilesets? Best examples would be final fantasy VII - IX wherein they use static artwork as the entire background.
I thought it would be possible using the 'show picture' command and probably just use a transparent tileset for collision, until I realize that images shown using that command always stay on top, covering all layers below.
Thank you

What's good with XP is that you have unlimited tilesets. You can very well draw a picture and use it like a tileset by cutting it appropriately (the size is 256x33024 - while 256 is in width is required, 33024 is the maximum height, not a requirement). You don't need to use Parallaxes or overlays like in VX.

Hehe indeed, as Kread-EX said, using tilesets, this is doable.
There is other way as well, as I have seen in various games - the use of background panoramas. I haven't seen how they worked it, but it was pretty cool. Just set it as a panorama and place invisible impassable tiles all around, to define where he can walk to or not.

Color me surprised, but I didn't know tile sets in XP can have unlimited height! Indeed that seem very possible.
As for setting images as panoramas, I've yet to try that out.
Thanks very much

If you want to find some picture to employ as a map, just check www.spriters-resource.com and search for Digimon World... I think some of the backgrounds can be edited and used as well... I've done it before in one of my project, with a Camera Zoom script that simulated isometric movement... The site is worth to catch a glimpse.
