Beautiful parallax map, perhaps the floor is a bit 'dull compared to the wall. It's a bit 'empty, but I suppose it is only a test. Very nice also the chara :3

i can say for sure that its cute the lighting seems okay , great even but isnt it gonna be hard to sprite evey char? do your best
Dragoncookie
Nov 27 2011, 11:42 PM
@Saul95: Thanks! Yes this is only a test, I didn't fill it with furniture yet.
@supercow: Thank you! Yeah it's gonna be a difficult, but I'll try really hard!

The main issue you have is that the outline style is different between the map and the sprite. You have bold, soft lines for the map and hard, single-pixel ones for the sprite.
Dragoncookie
Nov 28 2011, 11:41 AM
Well i'm trying to fix that, still, and I can try to make the maps blend with the charsets some more (maybe if I lower the density on the sprites' outlines) but it's impossible to make anti-aliased sprites, as they would have to be like 3x bigger, and the 4-frame animation would be disconnected that way.

Not sure if it's just me.. But the Title Screen's simplicity ( And the fact that it doesn't match with the little box-thingy ) really bothers me. The last screenshot; as most said is to bare.
But other than that, lovely art. Good luck on your project. > 7 <;;~♥

Aww... I really like it xD I'm not really gonna change it. But, I'll change the windowskin, when I can make decent ones. Or when I find a decent one online. ;D Thanks!

@MistarEvona: Thanks!! ^^
@Eden: I know, right? I wonder why. Talking about demos, I haven't got enough material for one yet. I think I'll really go with parallax mapping, but I need to make a lot of maps before a first release.
EDIT:
Screenie here!
Another WIP. I'm not very good at drawing landscapes.

muhahahaha 4 pages O:... er-hem.
You think so? Maybe. Oh, and I could really use some criticism on that sprite and the parallax map.
Eden
Dec 1 2011, 09:07 AM
Well, it's not that it doesn't look good, cuz it does, but it looks kinda fuzzy compared to the sprite. Maybe darken the outlines and define shading on the grass/trees.
Dragoncookie
Dec 1 2011, 09:30 AM
Darken the outlines, eh? It'll be much easier to darken the whole picture as making outlines at this point would be stupidly tiring. That, or restart.
(btw... that is yotsuba on your avvie right?)
Eden
Dec 1 2011, 10:08 AM
Well, you could just mess with the contrast a little, the picture just seems a tad out-of-focus.
Yea, it's Yotsuba. The last avatar was Yotsuba as well.

Dec 1 2011, 10:37 AM
Oh, that looks much better! The ground seems more solid and matches the character sprite better. Although I still say outlines would look better. >.>
Dragoncookie
Dec 1 2011, 10:48 AM
Outlines would be amazingly hard. Like, really... Image having to go around outlining all of... that. But I'll try... Eventually.

Bump! Also, have a WIP (w/ outlines) (btw the sketch is on 'cause I want some crit on the map design n stuff)

That's really cool Cookie! But, I think the perspective on the windows could be a lot better. Meh you're too lazy to fix that anyway. I think the lines are still too thick... Comparing to the sprite's that is.
Saul95
Dec 5 2011, 12:05 PM
Nice drawing :3 But has the wrong perspective: the houses are seen by three quarters, while the road from above.

WAAAAHHH! BLINDINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! *Ahem* Well, I don't know, but I think that the style your making the maps in really fit your art.
Dragoncookie
Dec 5 2011, 11:56 PM
@Ciel: You know me so well, but when it comes to this I'll probably shove the laziness aside. @Saul95: Ohh. I see. It looks like the road is uphill or smth right? I'll fix it later. @Guinevere: Thanks ^^
BTW guys maths exam tomorrow I have to study today I might not come.

You're seriously encouraging me to hand draw the maps for my project. Which is a pain in the ass because I don't have an art tablet. :|
Dragoncookie
Dec 6 2011, 10:12 AM
Ohohoh you shouldn't do that if you don't have a tablet. Even when you have one it's a pain. You gonna multiply the pain by 320547623970927 if you hand draw with mouse xD (is that even hand drawing?)

Dec 9 2011, 04:44 AM
Ahaha. You don't need to bump this thread. It's such a promising game that I can't imagine it going too far down the page.
In relation to your screenshot of Cookie in the strange field-like place: I really like it. I agree when Eden says to add outlines, but I can respect that it would be extremely tiresome to do so. For your castle town, erase the guidelines, but keep the outlines, and it'll look great.
Also, hurry and get a demo out. :<
Dragoncookie
Dec 9 2011, 06:08 AM
It was halfway down the page so I freaked XD
Yes. I'll have to start over on that one, anyway, so I'll do the outlines. Well all sketches are eventually erased xD
I'm working~~ XD I don't even have a single idea of what events to add and I gotta make my Minkoff battler sprites and monster sprites too and, and... lots of stuff.

Dec 9 2011, 06:29 AM
I'm sure you'll manage. Patience is a virtue when it comes to sprites. Especially battlers. =|

5TH PAGE omnomnom ...err... yeah
Yes, yes of course I'll manage. I *am* an artist in training after all. What would I be if I didn't manage? xD I'm not really cut out for pixelling so it's really diffy. ):

Oh, and why does anime have to be realistic? It's frickin' art, not photography. You don't need to conform to proportional art.
I love this statement. Sorry just had to say that. There's very little people who think that way, that I know atleast.

Firstly, I have to say I agree completely. There are so many different styles of anime (and art in general) that one shouldn't feel that they must conform to one style or another. Its an expression of self after all.
Secondly, I must admit that I really like all the art styles you showcased and cannot choose between them. Sorry that doesn't help much. Also, the parallax/panorama mapping looks considerably better, so perhaps if you made the wall hieghts smaller and tried changing the colour pallette of the sprites you might be able to get it to work. It's an option at least.
Lastly, its very nice to see a project witha unique style that actually looks like it holds promise for completion. I'm rooting for you.
Dragoncookie
Dec 9 2011, 11:31 AM
@EvenAngels: You're actually being helpful xD It just means I have succeeded in visual stuffers. Hmm change the palette? I understand the wall heights but I'm using pretty much the same palette for both sprite and map lol Thank you! I'm glad you think so!

quick "doodles" (i'll probably use it for something) of Cookie and Miky(aka the Warrior and the Witch)
The Warrior
The Witch
Also sorry for the inactiveness lately but I've been making some decisions and I think I'll revamp the whole game and make it an Action RPG wholly pixelled (which will kill me but it's okay at least I will make some improvements to my sorry excuse of pixelling xD)

Why do not you show us complete drawings instead of the profiles?
Dragoncookie
Dec 20 2011, 03:34 PM
I would, but, it's really just the silhouettes I might fill them in later tho xD
BTW Update: I won't be doing it entirely in pixel... it'll be entirely vector-like graphics (line less), all of them original.
Guinevere
Dec 21 2011, 08:02 PM
IDK if you should fill them in later. They'd work well as promotional art, titlescreen, etc. as is. They're really pretty That aside, I can't imagine what Cookie would look like lineless O.o Or do you mean the sprites? Oh, if it's mostly pixelled, will you still be doing your hand drawn maps?
Dragoncookie
Dec 22 2011, 01:10 AM
Thanks! I'll make a filled in and a non filled in ver probably. Actually I was talking about the game graphs xD Well I was thinking about making tilesets instead of hand drawing since that way I can spare a lot of work. Anti-aliased tilesets, that is.

They run off different kinds of code.
RMXP is RGSS1 And RMVX is RGSS2 or something. They both preform similar functions, you could have it converted to XP by someone who's willing to donate their time.
