So.. I upgraded my OS from Windows XP up to Windows 7 about a year ago.. took a pretty long break from the RPG scene for awhile and decided to try it out again.. so I had to reinstall pretty much everything.. the basic problem I'm experiencing at the moment is general lag where it used to be almost instantaneous. Prime example, battles. When I test battle I sit there for about 30 seconds looking at a blank screen before the battle starts. Characters also seem to move kind of sluggish and somewhat unresponsive outside of battle. I don't recall it being like this previously.
Any ideas about how to fix this? Thanks!

I use Win7 myself and haven't had any issues. Only thing I can recommend trying is during testing, press F9 and turn on smooth mode. That may help with the sluggish / unresponsive movement, but probably not the lag before battle.

Running in fullscreen helps.
Maybe some of the aero functionality slows it down pretty much. You can try playing around with enabling/disabling some of them.

I'll have to try that out. I think I have smooth mode running at the moment. Either that or my version didn't install properly. Anyway.. thanks for the advice!

One other thing you can try is
Legacy's High Priority Script, it makes the game a higher priority than it usually is, and gets a higher preference for system resources, good for big games that would otherwise lag

If there's a bug with the High Priority script leave a message in the original topic. Make sure to specifically mention which version of Windows are you using...

Have you tried clearing all preset audio-files like the Battle-BGM (choosing the (None) option in the audio-selecter window)? I might have an idea what the source of the problem is, if that solves the lag.

That's very strange. I have no problems running it on Windows 7. Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit?

Did you check and looked at your processes and performance in your Windows Task Manager, and see if your CPU and Memory is raising too high when you start the game? Also while you playing it, try to mess with other things to see if your computer is lagging when the game is up. For some reason I want to think it's a custom script but I don't think that's it.
But check the Windows Task Manager to see if a program in the background is eating up too much memory or CPU. It could be RPG Maker itself or a program in the background.
You should also try out Game Booster, just google it. It helps play games more smoother.
Have you tried disabling the Aero Effect in your game.exe?

All you have to do is check what I've checked.
And that's basically it. It would automatically change Aero to Basic untill the game is closed. You could also do that with RPG Maker XP's .exe as well.
