I want to get a proper topic for forum information- so any ideas appreciated as in what should be included.

Please post your suggestions!
Jonnie19
BBCODE Information, including IMG tags, Spoiler Tags, etc just so that people who have only just joined know how to do these tags smile.gif

Also, information about uploading stuff to the site; including to the gallery, because I remember some trouble back along where people didn't know how and where to post it

Just some Ideas to get this topic going smile.gif

Assuming that you are asking for anything that should be included, even if it's currently posted somewhere now:

1. BBCODE as Jonnie suggested.

2. How to post screenshots and/or set up a gallery when they hit "Revolutionary".

3. How to post games.

4. Main site rules and some definition of when necroposting is allowed (ie., long demo, complete games) versus when it is not.

5. How to recruit, and where they should recruit.

6. Link to a few of the main tutorials, if applicable.

7. A link to a few of the VX vs. XP topics and what we hope to see in the next maker, so they aren't surprised when these are closed down because of being overly discussed.

Brilliant stuff here - thanks this is the best way we can do it - ask the audience!!

I'm taking notes! Thanks for the input. ^^

Looking for more though, if you have any good/decent questions, please let us know. =D

Just to answer this.

Necroposting

Something that a lot of people mentioned is the way we handle people posting in topics that are old, well we're dropping this rule from all but a few sections which wouldn't need it. The list will follow. This means that if you've found a topic via a pinned topic then it's fine for you to continue that discussion (Like topics from a Theory and Design Discussion) if a script submission is something you've always wanted then you're free to reply giving loads of praise for their hard work, also topics within general/serious that have some more points you'd like to bring up or even reply to previous points made, sometimes topics within the Game Lounge fall down the list and people are still interested in them then don't fear bringing them back and getting people talking about it again is now fine.
Just remember to add relevant content into your post and not simply 'bump' these topics up.

Now I mentioned forum sections which are exempt from this, necroposting is still in effect - though it's going to be extended, within the following sections:

Don't revive topics from:
  • Introductions and Farewells
  • Site / Forum Feedback and Help
  • Games Under Construction
  • RPG Maker VX
  • RGSS2 Script Requests
  • RGSS2 Script Support
  • RPG Maker XP
  • RGSS Script Requests
  • RGSS Script Support
  • RPG Maker 2000 / 2003
  • Game Maker
  • Resource Requests
  • Fun and Games
  • Noteworthy Topics
  • Topic Disposal
  • Ad Plaza

So it's basically the help/support/instant sections which don't need bringing back from the dead.

Thanks Rob. ^^
Yeah, I'm most likely going to put all of that information (along with other topics mentioned that already have a topic somewhere about it) into one location (the FAQ) because not everyone knows where to look for those things.

Thanks, X. Rob, what I meant wasn't that I was trying to find rules about Necroposting and other topics, I meant having it all together for the FAQ.

Sure if people bothered to do a little digging they'd find most of this information, but i doesn't stop people from still asking; so having it all together in one location would help.

Edit: A listing of which Mods are behind which forums, so people know right away who they can go to, although this would need to be regularly updated as mods come and go and switch around.

I think telling people at how many posts they hit Revolutionary would be an incentive to get them to post more... though it might just backfire and send all of the newbies over to the spam topic instead of actually contributing to the forum itself.

I definitely agree with all the other ideas posted here. I didn't figure out how to put images up until almost a year after joining RRR, if I remember correctly.

That would be hilarious - you don't increase your post count in the Fun and Games Forums!! tongue.gif

I've already got something about this in my list on the FAQ. Thanks though. ^^
More ideas!

That's true, and I've already got these topics covered. ("Where post count doesn't increase" is covered, and so is "all the benefits of being a revolutionary" and "how to become a revolutionary".)

Looking for other ideas. =D
I've got nearly 50 ideas already, so don't be afraid to throw more out there (because I might have missed something). =]

We also have a list of all the member groups and what they stand for.
