Full Version: Cannot encrypt game?
RPG RPG Revolution Forums > Game Engines > RPG Maker XP Discussion
Twin Matrix
Hey guys,

I can not encrypt my game for some reason? It works fine -- nothing corrupted as far as I can see. But when I encrypt it, I end up with a file called 'Test.002' along with the actual encrypted file, which is missing Test.002's filesize. What the? Help please! sad.gif

Have you tried encrypting it with and without that little tickbox clicked? I think it is entitled Encrypt Game Data
You can also try to do it on a friend's computer normally, and see if it works, or if it doesn't work try putting it inside the unencrypted folder.
Twin Matrix
Same problem!

Unfortunately I don't have a friend's computer. =/ And we can't install programs at the college PCs... I wonder what the problem could be. I can encrypt other projects just fine. o.o

I'm gonna take a guess and say that your game's filesize is pretty big (over 128 MB). This is a bug that happens with RMXP. You have a couple options:

1) Cut down on file size a bit
2) Use another encrypter
Atoa
Let's face facts: Using RMXP default encryption these days is useless. Any dumb can easly decrypt it with one of the tools available for that.
If you want to keep you files really safe, you should use another encryption, and i can suggest this one: http://www.hbgames.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=75623
Twin Matrix
Yep, larger than 128 MB. Is that the problem then? If so, I will have to use another encrypted... Which do you guys suggest? Atoa's link looks great and new, but I wonder if it's bug-free? Well, I suppose I will find out. smile.gif

[edit] Okay, right, that script is useless to me... I can't use my loading script and it replaces the Game.exe. Any other encryption methods? :/

I agree with Atoa, but I'll take it a step further. Unless you are planning a commercial release, there's really no need to worry about encryption. Everybody's different, and I know there are some people that do not want their artwork used in any other game, but if I made some of my own original resources, I'd be honored if other people wanted to use them for themselves in their own game, given that proper credit was provided.

If you are worried about people using them and claiming the resources as their own, again it's nothing to worry about. Most of the communities that I've been part of take theft very seriously, and are well aware of who has created what, so if somebody does come along and flaunt off work they never actually made, they'll will surely be banned before too long.

And let's face it: Those who are going to steal will steal, no matter the encryption.
Twin Matrix
Yeah, it's a commercial game. And it's not RM users I'm worried about, but the random 3820 people that don't know how to unencrypt but could just use the files if I don't encrypt it.

ANYWAY, do you know another encryption method? I don't care about how easy it is to decrypt.

Blizzard had wrote a series of scripts for encryption using DREAM.

EDIT: http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php?topic=76.0

Maybe you can look into that. There are also other related scripts like save files and music files.
Don't know about resources though.

You don't need to know how to decrypt it to do it. There are various decrypters that any n00b can use to decrypt is readily available and well-known. If that fails, there is always the PrintScr button on the computer. If you are looking for a good encryption, you are going to have to find one that replaces the Game.exe and/or RGSS102E.dll. Anything else makes it open season for any n00b. I have personally cracked about a dozen different RMXP "encryptions" that didn't do this, and all in under 5 minutes. I wouldn't even call it cracking, since 90% of it can be done using RMXP's existing engine.

The link above is the best thing going at the moment, until it gets cracked by somebody. Multi-billion dollar software companies can't keep people from cracking every game that hits the market, so I doubt you will find one made for a home-brew RMXP game. I thought people realized this by now.

With that i don't agree, people that would decrypt games to steal things, are generally people that don't even know the mean of the word "binary".

In other word, you will need to replace game.exe if you want a reasonable good security.

Now if you're not worried about security, you can use this encrypter by Zeriab: http://www.hbgames.org/forums/viewtopic.ph...179&t=69121
It will generate an encrypted file exactly like the onde made by rxmp. With no extra security, but at last will be able to encrypt games bigger than 128 without problems.

There's no 100% safe encryption system, but as long it can avoid the most popular decrypt tools (like the RGSSAD decryptor by vgvgf) it's enough, since resources thief's are almost always noobs without any knowledge in nothing.
