I've seen a couple character generators, but despite how great they might be to many users, they were still missing something crucial.
The main design I'm looking for is extensibility, which allows users to add their own creations to it via plugins or importing into whatever "Database" they use.
One where the author only has to build the system, provide the specs required for additional clothings/hair/etc, and then anyone can add to it. A small community would be created for sharing their creations and peer-reviewed so only the ones that satisfy all requirement would be available for distribution.
Any such program? Sounds like something someone would intuitively make after realizing it was too much effort to add new stuff on their own or in a small team that may lose interest over-time.
Might be harder or even impossible with the web versions, but with offline programs it would be feasible.

I was once designing one which I was hoping someone would be able to program for me, and distribute. -Website generators wouldn't be a good idea for something you/anyone can contribute towards because of style variation.
There was a French generator which came close but the resources (which were few) had a .gif filetype, making it awkward to update, and it didn't have a layers order function which would also be useful.
If there is still the option for someone to program such a program then I'll surely pick up my design and try to get this in motion once again.

There used to be one on the main site that you could add your own stuff into, but i've deleted it and all the RMXP utils are gone... strangely...
