So yesterday, August 30th, I came home from work around 10:30PM, turned on my Xbox and then sat down to check my e-mail on my iPod. I had an e-mail from the Xbox Live team that said I had banned due to Marketplace Theft - and that's it. They didn't give me anymore information, and apparently I can't contact customer support with any questions because they're "unable to give out any information." Basically, Microsoft just ban hammered me for something that's a secret. I'll post the original e-mail I got, along with the e-mail I sent and the e-mail I received back.

My account was permanently suspended due to Marketplace Theft. I have no idea what this means. The last thing I did in the Xbox Live Marketplace was download the Mortal Kombat DLC, I didn't steal anything. I'd like more information to be given to me immediately, I have spent thousands of dollars on my xbox 360, including games and downloadable content, as well as Microsoft points and Xbox Live Gold.

The Reply I got

Hello Jordon,

Thank you for contacting XBOX online support. I am April and I will be assisting you today.

I understand how inconvenient this might be for you that your Xbox Live account was suspended due to Marketplace Theft.

During the course of a recent investigation, we have discovered users who illegitimately accessed Xbox LIVE Marketplace downloadable content. Our investigation reveals that this access was intentional and not accidental, constituting a blatant violation of the Terms of Use for the service. We will not divulge additional information regarding individual suspensions for these offenses.

Please know that we are being very careful regarding these suspensions, and have clear evidence regarding each account issued a permanent suspension from the service. We apologize for any frustration or confusion resulting from our inability to share individual details, and thank you all for your cooperation in this matter.

If you need to appeal on this suspension, you need to contact our Xbox Live Enforcement Team through forums. You can access this forum at: http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/f/41.aspx

If you can't post in forums using your Xbox Live account, please create a new Xbox Live account and use that account to post in forums.

So currently, I'm awaiting a reply on the forums. I posted an appeal there, but haven't heard anything yet (it's still under moderator preview). While reading through other posts from the forum on the XBL suspension forum I found out that Xbox is becoming really douche-baggish for 99% of everything. If you make a private game with mods or cheats, PERM BAN. If you changed the color of your avatar's skin, clothing, etc, with outside mods, PERM BAN. Like, seriously? Just because someone's avatar is a different color doesn't mean shit man, it's a COLOR, and that's IT. I also don't mind modded lobbies. It's fun to have super speed with instant kills on a game - as long as it's in a private match. I hate trying to play a game legit and having someone cheat or mod their way to the top.

Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Opinions? Discuss!

That's harsh to say the least, I've heard appeals can go either way. So fingers crossed.

To be honest at the end of your post:

If it's fun or not though they set the rules and you agreed to these rules when you created your account. You might not mind those kind of lobbies but it's still grounds for that action.

I hope this was a mistake on their side and not something you've done which caused this action. I suggest if you do get active once again that you avoid those mods in the future.

The reason they don't want you doing those things for free is because they charge money for it normally and you are stealing from them. Modding that allows you to change your clothes allows you do take clothes you normally have to pay for, the same for the skin color.
I'm sorry you were banned, but you shouldn't have been doing those things when you created an account and agreed to their terms. In all fairness, they did warn you against it...Unless of course you never did those things then this was a ban mostly done by false reports by other players. I knew a kid, 15-16 that had his friends (20 friends) report on single guy for beating him over and over again and he was perma-banned for something he never even did. So that could be the case.

I hope everything works out for you smile.gif

Whoa whoa whoa, that's the thing I HAVEN'T done any of those things. I haven't modded any games, or my avatar. I'm saying I got banned for "Marketplace Theft" and I didn't do anything to deserve that. I didn't mod anything, and my avatar isn't changed at all.
MagitekElite
Oh, than it is a case of angry players, or a huge scam of some sort. Do you have anything you can give them as proof you didn't do such things? Maybe screenshots? Credit card information?

Maybe someone hacked your account?
Holder
They retain the avatar and account for evidence, that's the beauty of that site whywasIbanned. Sometimes cases of people saying they didn't mod their avatar while they still have the information at hand to prove they did.

So therefore they have a record of your download history and what you've been using. If everything matches then you should be fine. Also have you bought or started using a different console at all?
I've just got a new machine and transferred all of my data onto my machine, though something they didn't stress as much as I thought they should have was the transferring the licences over to match my new machine details. That could be a cause.

That really sucks man... guess you'll just have to wait for the appeal to pass. Isn't the Mortal Kombat DLC FREE? Maybe since it is free they think you're stealing it somehow?
All I can say is... PS3 FTW.
RzrBladeMontage
@Holder
I'm using my friends (I have been for quite awhile) but I haven't played any of my old arcade games on it, only the ones I recently downloaded.

@Redd
No, it's not free.
Redd
Isn't there some kind of Mortal Kombat DLC that is free though? I remember seeing one.
RzrBladeMontage
Skarlet was supposed to be free for Xbox 360 users only, but I never saw it be free at all. By the way, just a quick update for everyone - I'm still banned. Their moderators haven't even posted my thread on the appeal forums, so they're basically saying "We banned you and we can't tell you why." It's not fair, and I think it's complete bull shit.
Redd
Post another one, make another user brotha! And I think Skarlet is free for PS3 users, I think...

A similar thing happened to me on S4 League, my level 32 account was perma banned for getting the hacking trial detected message too many times, all I did was enter my inventory before I got it, then it said you're account is suspended until xx/xx/xx (was for 2 days) I then sent an email and they pushed my ban further for hacking but they never proved I did or how I was hacking.
