Final Version Released on 3/4/2013!

"Can the remnants of our past lead us to a future...?"

Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost is a fangame highly inspired by Dragon Warrior 7. The game will feature the shard system and time travel aspect found in Dragon Warrior 7. The underlying story, however, is not the same and besides the time travelling portion, no plot sequence will be taken from Dragon Warrior 7.

STORYLINE:
Story
“Join a story that spans the ages! Through a series of seemingly unrelated events, a young man finds himself in the middle of a divine conflict. Picking up allies along the way, the man will confront the darkness and bring back the legacy of the lost!”

The world of Araginol is at peace… or so it seems. As far back as the people of this land can recall there is little in terms of land. The continent of Erdrich is all that has been discovered by seafarers and captains of the seas…

“How can this be? Is it truly possible that the world be so small?”

Unknown to the people of the current era, Araginol had once consisted of several islands and continents. Through the power of the demon lord, the islands that occupied Araginol fell one by one, eventually leaving no remnant of their passing.

Just when it seems Erdrich has been spared from this tragedy, several unfortunate events begin to plague the land. It is up to you, the hero, to traverse the rifts of time and save the world from evil’s vile clutches!

CHARACTERS:
Characters
Name: Aldain
Age: 18
Job Class: Hero
The Hero is formidable in both might and magic. Holy blood runs through his veins and he is an essential part of any team. The Hero also has the most well-rounded stat growth in the game, and while not too hard to train in early levels, requires a lot of experience points as he grows in level. The Hero can be equipped with most weapons and armor.

Aldain lives in the land of Erdrich, not far from the castle. He lives with his mother, Sarah, who has recently come down with a terrible sickness. He is willing to put his life on the line to find a way to save her.

Name: Oruba Stacain
Age: 53
Job Class: Mage
The Mage is formidable in attack magic. Mages excel in devastating their enemies with powerful magic. They can even fall back upon various support spells to aid in battle. This learned mage has a low attack, defense and agility rating but excels in intelligence. The Mage takes a fair amount of time to level. The Mage can use whips and staves and be equipped with small shields and lightweight armor.

Oruba was born in Rhemhage Village, older brother to the current mayor. He resents his brother for everything he stands for. His brother took over the village when his parents suddenly died. Blaming their death on his brother by bearing witness to the crime, Oruba has turned his back on his brother. When evil threatens his hometown, though, he is all too eager to defend it, as long as it wasn't a request by the mayor.

Name: Melody
Age: 24
Job Class: Maiden
The Maiden is a supplemental character who aids her allies by using detrimental magic on the enemy and raising one's own stats. However, her spell list is limited. She has a high amount of strength and agility, but defense and intellect lack slightly. She levels fairly quickly. She can be equipped with a wide array of heavy weaponry and can wear lightweight armor.

Melody is the upbeat daughter of Yardrick Village's mayor. She met a tragic end at the hands of the basilisk, a devastating beast borne of black magic. By purging the land of this foul beast, you lift the petrification and in her gratitude and eagerness to leave home, she offers to join you on your quest. She had studied to become a priest before leaving. Not much else about her past is known...

FEATURES/PLANNED FEATURES:
Features
- Breeding system akin to Dragon Warrior Monsters. At certain points of the game, it will be possible to recruit monsters to join your team. Eventually, you will unlock the breeding center in which you can breed your monsters together to create newer and more powerful offspring. In addition, there will be monster masters that will offer up their own monsters to breed with one of yours.
- Alchemy Pot
- Mini-Games
- Dynamic party system: The final member of one’s team will consist of a wide variety of available monsters. At a certain point in the game you can swap out your team to mix and match to your choosing.
- Scripts to make the game feel and play like a Dragon Quest game.

Let me start with the bad things:
Your story could use more substance.

Here are the good things:
EVERYTHING. I'm a real sucker for non-rtp and retro graphics, so you have grabbed my interest immediately with them. Features and characters do a good job of representing the DQ series. That is a big compliment for you as I am quite a fan of the series myself, starting way back in the days when it was called Dragon Warrior.

Keep us updated. happy.gif

I'm glad you like it! I have the story all planned out in my head, but I haven't exactly put it into writing. I'll see what I can do to provide more of the story to you guys. smile.gif

Dang! This looks very epic for VX. I can't wait to see how well it plays. Although I'm trying to decide which I like the best (the tilesets, the battle system, or the text).

Progress is coming on pretty nicely! I'm also gonna see about moving this thread to Long Demos.

I've downloaded the demo but when I start the game it's just the standard VX menu and it doesn't show any letters. Same goes for the character creation system.

Oh dear.... I'm that typical: "Read the first sentence and that's it" kinda person... I downloaded it now and it works like a charm... ;-) :-)

I apologize for anyone who came across this bug, but I found a game stopping error in the demo I released. In the Sacred Shrine in the Trials of Greed, any Warp Portal will cause the game to crash, effectively preventing you from going any further.

You'll need to download and place the file, Sacred Shrine, into the game's BGM folder. Right before submitting my game to the site I had to convert all my MP3s to OGG files because of extraction issues, and I missed an instance of the Sacred Shrine.wav in the game. I deeply apologize for any inconvenience! (You probably can just rename any wav you have as "Sacred Shrine" and it work fine too).

Updated OP with this information as well.
Magicbow
Although what I've played is really good I've gotten a couple of errors, the first one caused the game to crash when i tried to cross the bridge just north of your house (I think it was something about the missing file presentday.wav I think even though there is a OGG file for it) but I can't go back and check to see what it is for definate because when I try to load the game I get this error:

Script 'Caterpillar' line 159: NoMethodError occured.

undefined method '[]' for nil:NilClass

So until thats fixed I can't really play this game, i don't know if anyone else is getting these errors either.

Hmm! I'm looking into the issues now! I hate I didn't figure out what needed to be done sooner.

I had play tested my game thoroughly before I converted the mp3s and wavs to OGG vorbis files. Then I thought I was very careful about fixing all sound related issues. It seems that that caterpillar script error is caused by walking across that bridge (I don't understand why though), so I will be correcting these issues as soon as possible!

EDIT: (4:25 PM EST)

I have fixed the issues you found, Magicbow, and did a full play-through of the game myself for good measure. I can say with pretty good certainty that the game is working as intended now.

I updated the OP with information below to download either the new version or the required fixes for 1.1!

Version 1.1:
Because of various errors that have been reported, I decided to go back through the game and make sure everything is working as intended. I did a full play-through of the game and can safely say that version 1.1 should cause no errors. All instances of music should be in OGG format. In addition, I have made various graphical fixes and added a few new NPC types to add variety.

1.1 also brings the third region, Cardial. You would be able to complete most of the region. Because it is not finished, I would advise ending the demo when you clear the Rhemhage Region.

You can download Version 1.1 here! The font PressStart2P is included in the ZIP file.

-------------------------------------

However, I realize 112 MB may be a large download for some people. So to prevent you from having to download the game again, another way to fix the demo would be to download the 1.0 Fix.zip here. Then, just place the contained .wav files (Present Day, Castle, Curse and Sacred Shrine) into the game's BGM folder. The required font, PressStart2P, is included in this zip file as well!

I deeply regret that I had to do so many fixes of this nature, but home that the community can enjoy my demo!
Magicbow
Well I managed to copy the game save file across and continue playing and I got about an hour in (again what I've seen is really good its feels authentic in the style of a nes RPG, my only gripe is the (lack of) title screen). However I took a break and came back only to the find this same error again when I tried to load the game.

Script 'Caterpillar' line 159: NoMethodError occured.

undefined method '[]' for nil:NilClass

You are probably as confused as I am over this issue tongue.gif

I'm glad you're enjoying it, and I'm working on that title screen now!

That error is really confusing me though! I couldn't recreate it no matter how many times and saved and quit the game after I fixed that sound error... By chance, are you playing the old version with the fixes or the new 1.1 version?

EDIT:
It's amazing how difficult this program (mainly scripting :x) can be! When I ran the game in the player, I could recreate the error every single time I "Quit Game" as opposed to just "Quitting" to the Title Screen. However, in Test Play, it doesn't matter what I do, I can't recreate the error. So, I looked on the web and I found what I believe will fix the issue. For the time being, I am taking down the download link. I will do my best to get a link up and running again.

I've been searching all over forums and there seems to be an error with the Woratana's Caterpillar script. I'll do what I can do to get the problem corrected. I've found a small bit of hope regarding the issue, but I need to be absolutely certain that this error is gone before I release another demo.
Magicbow
Ok well at least you know what the problem is and I'm looking forward to it being fixed!

I have updated the OP with a new demo version for Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost. New screenshots have been posted as well. I am happy to say that I am certain no game stopping errors should pop up!

The new demo version has many fixes from the old one and I even added a new region. Unfotunately, any old save files you had will not work. Make sure to delete any former versions of the game on your computer if you had already downloaded it!

I look forward to hearing people's opinions. smile.gif

I tested this game for Orias, and I will say it's quite a fun game to play. There is a real nostalgic feel to playing the game, and the best advice is to think about the clues the npcs give you via text. Open up a notepad while you play if you have to!

I'm looking forward to more from Orias smile.gif

Just a quick progess update! I've been working a good bit on the Breeding System for this game. I've got everything figured out, and wanted to share how the Breeding System works. For those of you that played Dragon Warrior Monsters I or II, you'll see that the system is very similar.

===Breeding System===
Through various missions and sidequests throughout the game, you will be able to recruit monsters. There are a total of 12 unique base starting monsters, but you can only get 8 of these on a single playthrough. At a certain point in the game, you will unlock the breeding center, in which you can breed two monsters together. There are also some monster masters that will offer a monster of their own to breed with yours. There is a total of 106 possible monsters, with 9 of them being exclusive to Dragon Quest: Legacy of the Lost.

Example of a monster joining your party

===The Breeding Center===
The Breeding Center is the most exciting aspect of monster breeding. When you begin breeding, you select a monster to serve as the base pedigree. The base monster will determine the result. For example. if you breed a Dragonkid and a Spooky, you would get a Drakslime. If you had chosen Spooky as the base, you would get a MadSpirit. To breed, a monster must atleast be Level 15. The parent monsters will be lost upon breeding. In addition to receiving the offspring, When you breed a monster, you receive €œSkill Essences.€ Skill essences are a way of passing on skills to another monster. You will be given the opportunity to pass on the skills the monster is capable of learning. Essenced skills are not passed, however. Skill Essences will come with a stat requirement and are only useable by monsters.

Also, each parent monster will also drop one stat increasing item known as a Gene. This item will reflect that monsters highest stat and will be in varying degrees of +5~10.

*No monster learns more than 3 skills. But through the Essence system, you will be able to create a monster with a wide array of powerful and useful skills.

Hi,

I'm also a sucker for old-school RPG's like this one. I've gotten as far as the "lost woods"-esque screen in the forest around all the marsh. I'm looking for the flower to complete the medicine for my mother. How do I get past this screen? I don't recall seeing any hints along the way for passing it.

Good game so far, BTW.
Orias Obderhode
I'm glad you're enjoying it!

To get through the forest, go back and talk to Dr. Rothberg after getting Holy Water. smile.gif

Giving a quick progress update! I've finally been getting back some feedback (through PMs mainly) and I've been incorporating a few adjustments into the game. I look to making the beginning less grindy by changing the EXP given by lower level enemies, adjusting some enemy's HP, and expanding upon the intro cutscene. I also managed to create loops for all the music, so that there will no longer be any awkward pause in the sound.

Even better, a nice member here, dadartman, helped me refine the menu system in the game. All problems that I had with my menu are now gone, from the faulty display in some areas to hero names.

In terms of general progress, I've been working on the next region, Yardrick. This is an arena themed region that will be where you pick up the last hero mentioned in the synopsis, Melody. I'd estimate my current progress on the game to be 25%.

I also made a support bar! If you support the project, feel free to add it to your sig. smile.gif

Can just add the image by pasting this link: http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/9687/legacybanner.png
Orias Obderhode
Progress has been going a bit slower now that I am back in school, but I am making progress. I finished up the Yardrick Region and am soon to move onto one of the longest regions in the game, Bariden.

I would like some feedback though on one of the new monsters added to the game. I mentioned that I am making several custom monsters (that you will be able to breed), and I am doing best to stay true to the Dragon Warrior Monsters GameBoy style graphics. Those who played the demo may have also noticed DeadKing was a new monster as well.

Any comments on the graphic would be greatly appreciated!
Knot
I really like the monster! Did you also do the background? The monster's a nice balance between simplicity and creativity. It's simple enough that you should be able to make lots of monsters in not too long but it's still also easily recognisable.

EDIT: On another note, since I like the monster and this game has a demo, I'm gunna play it!

EDIT2: Well, I've made it to the cave with my little mage friend (Ougba was it?) but I thought I'd give my thoughts so far before I forget. Firstly, I'm having lots of fun. I've never played dragon warrior but I'm really enjoying myself and the battles seem pretty well balance. It's a nice gentle start with equipment which is just out of reach and you have to work a little bit to get it.
I did have a few problems with the enchanted forest though. It would be nice to have some sign that it couldn't be completed before you spoke to the doctor again. What would probably be even better is to have it so that the bandit gives you a copper key AND some holy water. That way, since you're already back in the first town you can stop by the doctor and give him the holy water AND get the secret to the forest. Instead I spent ages talking to everyone in the second town and running randomly around the forest to get through. I didn't really think about going back to see the doctor until I ended up earning enough money to buy a copper sword!
The second issue was that after I got the holy water I thought it would be nice to quickly cut through the cave system but it didn't work! Since I had given the key to Gustav to get through his door I could no longer make my way through the underground cave system! Since you fall down holes in the floor there's no way out and I ended up trapped behind the locked door.
The warp wings were a nice touch but it was annoying that if you accidently used them in a dungeon or in a place you were already at, they still got used up.
The challenges on the shrine island were also pretty neat and lots of fun. Also, for some reason after I left the room with the dancing monsters (SW ordeal) if I tried to re-enter it said it was missing a music file and shut down. I have no idea if that's just me or what.
The dialogue has been overall great! Nice and crisp with a bunch of personality thrown in. I'd think about rewording the battle dialogue for when you surprise the enemy though, every time I see it I keep get the feeling that they were the ones who surprised me! (I'm not sure exactly what is says because I’m always button mashing through the beginning of fights)
Finally, there's just a small typo when your wizard friend offers to burn down the vines blocking the cave to the castle on the second continent. He says: "I might can destroy this vine...". It's actually the main reason I posted, I didn't want to forget it!
All up it's a game with some really nice presentation and I'm looking forward to continuing!
Orias Obderhode
Thanks so much for the feedback so far, Knot! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself as well. smile.gif

You know, the forest is where I tend to get most of the questions so far, and I think it might would be a good idea to change how it works a little! I know how to fix most of those issues, and will get right on it! The warp wing issue is scripting related, so it'll be a bit harder to fix, but hopefully I can figure out how. Thanks again for the feedback.
Orias Obderhode
I wanted to provide a quick progress update for Legacy of the Lost.

I've started back school, so progress has slowed down a little. I have finished another region since Version 1.2 and have moved on to the next. After completing this next region, Bariden, alchemy will open up to the players giving more depth to the gameplay! I anticipate that I will be releasing another demo in the coming months. My hope is to have both alchemy and breeding available in the demo so that people can get a feel for both systems!

Here's some screenshots of Bariden. I think progress is coming along rather nicely!

Orias Obderhode
Progress on the next version of Legacy of the Lost is coming on rather nicely! However, before I release this next version, I would like to have beta testers so that everything goes off well and the difficulty is in check.

Here is just a glimpse of things changed in the new version:
- Two new regions, Yardrick and Bariden, have been added.
- Arena and Treasure Chest game have been added.
- Icons for items and equipment have been added.
- Alchemy is introduced.
- New sidequests.
- Adjustments to enemy EXP and gold.
- Music now loops correctly.
- Various fixes.
- And more!

If you are interested in becoming a beta tester, please let me know! If you played through version 1.2, your old save file should still be compatible with the new one. There will be an option to skip through Cardial just in case though!

I could use 1-2 more people! Thanks!

EDIT: All tester positions filled!

I have just added the latest version of Legacy of the Lost. I have taken down the download for version 1.2. Here is the information on the new version. I have updated the OP to reflect these changes as well. smile.gif

Estimated Play Time – 10 hours
Estimated Overall Progress: 40%

Version 1.5 sees several improvements, additions and adjustments from version 1.2! For a full list of changes, click the spoiler below.

Version Changes
- Two new regions, Yardrick and Bariden, have been added.
- Arena and Treasure Chest game have been added.
- Icons for items and equipment have been added.
- Alchemy is introduced.
- New sidequests.
- Adjustments to enemy EXP and gold.
- Music now loops correctly.
- Warp Wings and Exit Bells now work as intended. It is no longer possible to
lose an item by using it in the wrong place.
- Some animations have been changed.
- Design of certain interior areas have been changed.
- A fully functional game over system has been added.
- The menu system is now working 100% correctly.
- You now can actually name your monsters.
- Poison no longer damages you with every 1 step you take. It now takes
15 steps on the map to recieve 1 point of damage.
- The graphics for inland water has been changed.
- Basilisk battle has been adjusted.
- It is no longer possible to get stuck in Poison Marsh Cave.
- Various graphical fixes and improvements have been made.
- Fixed grammatical errors.

You can download version 1.5 here! Keep in mind that you need to install the font, PressStart2P, which is included in the ZIP file.

KNOWN ERRORS IN DEMO:
- Most battle animations are RTP default.
- Outland water has a black border that might could look better

IMPORTANT for Version 1.5:

Save files from your previous 1.2 versions will not work as intended in this version. If you choose to use an old save file, the new game over function will not work at all, but besides that, the game should work properly.

To alleviate this, I have added an option in the beginning to skip to where the end of Demo 1.2 left off. In Aldain's bedroom, click the blinking "!" to be transported to Cardial Port City, after beating the Sea Devil. If you didn't play Version 1.2, I would highly recommend not using this method for your game.

Clicking the "!" here will transport you to the end of Cardial.

If you see any spelling errors, other bugs, general suggestions or have other comments, please let me know!

Amerk also completed a offical preview of Legacy of the Lost! I thank him for his efforts and you can find the preview here!

It's been an incredibly long time since I last worked on Legacy of the Lost. About a month ago, my interest in continuing work on the project and the time I had to devote to the project increased and I've made some exciting progress. When I quit the game, I was one region away from needing to create the breeding system. In this past month, I've finished that region and made great progress towards the breeding system. At this rate, the entire breeding system and all the monster possibilities will be completed and finalized within a week or so! Here are some screenshots of the Monster Breeding System and the Monster Library associated with it.

To select two monsters, you need to click the family icons and then select from your list of monsters below.

The result!

I chose an image of 1EyeClown so that I wouldn't divulge too many breeding possibilities, but the Library is 100% completed.

And lastly, here are a few images from the latest region, Illae.

This looks absolutely amazing. I am a huge fan of DQ series, even the fangames. I haven't been this hyped and excited over a game here since Hellion. You've got my attention~

The concept of taming monsters and breeding them made me melt and just nostalgia to a childhood of Dragon Warrior Monsters. That has to be my favorite feature you've mentioned.

Yeah, its such an ambitious project it was hard to a steady pace working on it. But I really do believe it will be completed! Probably not by the end of this year, but early next year maybe. smile.gif
Orias Obderhode
Well, after about a month of work, the breeding system is finally finished! I'll admit, its quite fun to imagine how different each play-through could be! You could choose to create an army of three monsters, breed them all and make some type of ultimate monster using the genes and skill essences, or something in between!

On any particular play-through of Legacy of the Lost, you can only obtain 8 monsters (there are 12 possible ones though, so there is variance in that way as well!)

With the breeding system out of the way, I will be able to make much more steady progress on the game and story. I'd expect to have the final demo for the game by the end of the year.

Anyways, here is a chart showing every possible monster and their skill essences/genes they pass on. Do you see a monster you would like to make? wink.gif

Shaddow
This looks absolutely amazing! I must admit, I tend to cringe at fan games, because so many people just stick too strongly to the story of the existing work, but you have impressed me. I love the DQ games, I own literally every one, and I'm really looking forward to adding this one to my collection. You would have had me at just having such a great DQ game, but then you had to go and add monster breeding, which I am a HUGE fan of, so yes, you now have a life long fan and supporter.

Keep up the great work, I'm really looking forward to it.
Fleta
Seems like fun so far. Having a little bit of a problem getting holy water and moon flower + there doesn't seem to be any way into the cave west of the castle. Just has two doors locked with no keys available. Any clues?
amerk
It's been awhile since I played, but from a previous post on another site Orias stated you must have the Holy Water, attempt to get through the lost woods, and then speak to Rothberg when you realize you can't. The Holy Water comes from Gustav. That's about all I can help on that, since it's been several months.

It's been awhile since I played, but from a previous post on another site Orias stated you must have the Holy Water, attempt to get through the lost woods, and then speak to Rothberg when you realize you can't. The Holy Water comes from Gustav. That's about all I can help on that, since it's been several months.

Yeah, I got that Gustav has the water. I'm now trying to get his key and I get to the center of the forest and there's a room that I can't get past. If you go south you go back to the main area, and if you go east you end up in the west corner, west you end up in the east corner and north you end up in the south corner!!!! ARGHHH!!!!

Lol, I had the same frustation, actually the key is not in the forest, if you go east on the split in the world map instead of west you'll come to a cave, you can find the key in there. That should get you back on the right path.

Sidenote: The more I play of this game the more I fall in love with it, keep up the good work!

I finally got that. When Gustav said he had lost it in the forest I thought that was where it was. Beat the bandit, got the key and now I'm trying (less than successfully) to get the shards in the shrine. Speaking of shards, when I brought back the ingredients and cured "mom", the doc said I could have his shard on the table, but it didn't allow me to pick it up. How do you get that?

I'm glad you all are enjoying it. smile.gif

When you clear the Shrine (beat the boss at the end), you will be able to pick up the shard from Dr. Rothberg. I'm currently working on my last demo for Legacy of the Lost which will probably take most people around 20-25 hours to complete. When this next demo is released, the way to get through Erdrich Forest will be changed!

Definitely enjoying the game. Only couple questions left... Is there any way to get rid of a team member? I got the slime from mom's yard and allowed him to join my party thinking he would help with the monsters that I couldn't dispatch with a slash. He's worthless and he keeps on dying and costing me more money than he's worth. Also how do you get into the mountain cave? It's door is locked tight (although it looks like the key from the king should work there) and I can't begin to imagine how to get rid of the vine on the outside. Also is there any way to talk to the guy living in the NW corner of the southern side?

For your first question about removing party members, yes there is a way to remove them. Unfortunately, you cannot change your party setup until you complete the 2nd region, Cardial. A note about monsters though! While monsters do start of comparatively weak compared to human characters, they grow much faster and can very much meet or exceed the ability of a human character. While the slime is level 1, try having him just defend. He'll soak up damage relatively well and by about the time he's level 3, he really should be a decent addition to your team. In the 3rd region, you can start buying monster accessories to increase his stats. Also, if you really want, you can just leave him dead (although in the next demo, you may want him higher level to breed him wink.gif ).

As for Rhemhage Caverns, you'll need to recruit the main in that cottage in the NW. To recruit him, try talking to all of the townspeople and getting a request from the mayor. Once you do that, you can recruit the man in the cottage. You'll need to get him to level 2 before he can burn down the vines.

Good luck! smile.gif

EDIT (10:31 PM EST):
Progress on Legacy of the Lost has been going smoothly. I'm roughly a little halfway done with the game and think now would be the best time to release the final public demo. With this demo, breeding will be included so people get to try out this exciting new feature.

However, before I release the demo to the public, I would like to have a beta test. If you are interested in helping out, let me know on here or through PM! I am about 2-3 days away from finishing the demo, but I just wanted to get the word out that I am seeking testers. Keep in mind, this demo is expected to take a little over 20 hours to complete. I have posted this announcement on here, RMN and the RPGmaker VX Community and want no more than 5 beta testers. Below is a list of changes from the previous version to the new one:

Changes from previous version (1.5) to 2.0:
- Two new regions, Illae and Esrarch, has been added.
- Monster Breeding is now available.
- Tons of new sidequests were added.
- Based on the answers to the questions at the beginning of the game, Aldain now starts with a special skill.
- Drop rates on monster materials have increased.
- Heal is no longer "holy" based.
- The process for getting information to get through Erdrich Forest has changed.*
- Expansion of Arena.
- Arena no longer only revives Aldain upon defeat.
- Arena victory music is fixed.
- Changed Olian's sprite.
- Changed Aldain's sprite from the side.
- RobMagic now steals enemy's MP instead of just decreasing it.
- Sap and Slow now work with 100% accuracy.
- Removed the "!" warping you to Cardial.
- Exit Bells no longer stop working after the Cardial Region.

*Dr. Rothberg will now simply tell you the route through the forest without having to retrieve the Holy Water first. Now you can get both in any order.

I've tried and tried and can't get a request from the mayor. He only laments about not having Oruba. I thought that might have been enough and that it was Oruba up in the hut, but he only tells me to get lost! What am I doing wrong?

Head back to the Rhemhage Inn. The farmer type guy there will tell you a little more about Oruba and then head back to the mayor. As long as you've talked to the farmer guy and 11 other people in the village, the mayor will give you the request to recruit Oruba.

That worked. I got Oruba to join up and when I got to the first meeting of monsters, it crashed saying RGSS2 Player stopped working with a fault module name of ntdll.dll (don't know if this helps any). Any comments?

It doesn't happen every time combat comes up but it's happened on more than one occasion (particularly annoying since I had Oruba 2 experience points from getting to level 2 and of course it's lost because I was out in the field and couldn't save)
Orias Obderhode
Hm... I've never had that error come up. You say it resulted from simply doing any battle (on occasion) once you recruited Oruba?

Yeah. It starts to disappear the screen and then returns me to my desktop and comes up with that error message from Windows. Maybe because Oruba is the third character in the party?

Actually after the fourth time happening (out of 8 or 9), it's seems to have stopped. I've made it to the castle without seeing it anymore. But there doesn't seem to be any other areas to go to and the psychic says I need to get something holy to save the castle. Am I missing an area or can I pick up some more holy water maybe?
Orias Obderhode
Wow, that really confuses me! I've done so many playthroughs, especially of the earlier areas (sometimes with just Aldain and Oruba, and sometimes with all 3) and never seen it. I'll see if I can figure out the cause.

And yep! You can go and get Holy Water again from Gustav. smile.gif

I love that your game is getting so many questions! It sounds like you need a walkthrough, any plans to make one? I wouldn't mind writing out some tips and such I come across as I play through, if you would like me too. Though I am helping with a few other projects, including my own so it may not be coming too quick.

Oh that would be really cool! Tips from other players are always welcome, its always interesting to see if players use different strategies than my own. smile.gif
I do plan on releasing a full walkthrough when the game is finished though. The game will be fairly lengthy with plenty of extras, so it'll help people get 100% should they wish to!
