Strawberry
I'm an amateur artist, but I love to doodle sooooo much. It's fun! Why am I posting my sketches here? To get comments and critique. You'll probably see a mixture of a bunch of styles, and boy will it vary. o.o

Sketches:

Wow, you've got a talent for drawing!
These are brilliant! ^^

You make very good facial profiles, and the second image (in particular) is remarkable.
Very nicely done - do you plan on colouring the rest of them?
Strawberry
I should color them, but my digital art is lacking. We got paint.net for coloring and that's about it. XD

But thanks. Glad someone likes them. ^^
X-M-O
Yes, I do like them. You should give yourself more credit. ^^
You are good at drawing curves well, in my opinion, sometimes I think people see curves as square shapes when they draw, but you've got the curve-drawing down quite well. =D
Nanashi
From what I see, even if you are not confident in what you have at the moment, you will be soon~ You have your faces down near perfectly (if not for how pesky angling can be) and your anatomy is coming along very well! Worry not, your artwork will speak for itself and the talent behind it will be something even you will find hard to deny. As for the coloring, it does take time to get used to using digital art and what style works best for your drawings. I'm in that process myself and if you work at it, getting used to it will come to you easily~ What you have now is exceptionally wonderful!

Keep up the wonderful work and remember every time you put pencil to paper, you are progressing~
Strawberry
Hi hi guys.

Everyone says my faces are fantastical for some reason. o.o

I should try digital some more. XD I wonder which one I should do digitally. o.o

A blurry image of an RP character that's not mine... I should've taken the picture better. I draw on graph paper to help me, by the way.
RandSummers
Speaking from a professional standpoint most of these pictures are nearly good. The one that REALLY stands out is Random Girl. I'd suggest getting in some more practice drawing random people than go back to the fantasy aspect of your work because the less real your artwork is the more its going to suffer. In the long run you want to make sure you get all your proportions right and then exaggerate them.

Great work kiddo!
Strawberry
Thankies! And yeah, I should draw from real life, just finding the right references is hard. ><

I have this that I drew several days ago. It's all the same character, but I can't for the life me decide what to make her look like. She always looks like every other single glasses girl out there. ><
X-M-O
Hmm... I don't know, I think she resembles Velma from Scooby-Doo. =]
Could transform her into some cousin of Velma's and give her a boyfriend like Shaggy, lol. =D
Strawberry
Darn, haha.

I like Velma too.

She's supposed to be very smart and unsociable, but no matter what I do - she never looks right. Gah.
X-M-O
I think she looks pretty good, actually.
Are you trying to make her look more distinct by comparison to other drawings?
Try to add something that matches her personality, but makes her stand out from others that have a similar appearance.
For example: raise her cheekbones, or change her eye shape, or raise her brow level.
Strawberry
I'm trying to make her look more different than other girls with glasses I always see. I even kept a folder for awhile called "Illenia sightings". Haha.

I was thinking of getting of her glasses, but I don't think my partner would like that. XD

Those are good ways to make characters look different, though - thanks!
Strawberry
Another sketch on graph paper. D=

This is the main character of my game, Ghost Shards: Requiem. o.o
X-M-O
She looks really good. ^^
I bet you could do a lot more artwork if you had a tablet!
I'd especially like to see this one coloured. =]
Strawberry
I was thinking coloring it, actually.

I do have a tablet, but I don't think I can use it effectively. XD

I could try, though. I don't think I have a good free program to use, though - other than Paint.net...
X-M-O
I would give it a try, at least. ^^
Paint.net isn't that bad, especially for being free.
Strawberry
More artwork. ^^

A creature that might appear in a story I am writing with my best friend.

A random girl. I like her hair. ^^

You're right, paint.net is pretty awesome. I did make one of art pixel art - but I can't do her hair. ><
X-M-O
Hair is generally a difficult task when dealing with pixel art, so I can't blame you there. =]

By the way, both images (above) look great, and the little creature almost resembles Little Red Riding Hood (chipmunk-style?). =D
Ratty524
From what I see, it seems your biggest weakness comes from hands (don't worry, I'm working on those myself tongue.gif). In one image it looks too flat and in another the thumb looks too large and show a lack of basic construction. Other than that, you do have some skill. The only drawing I see that totally sucks is the first colored one (the perspective looks out of wack and the whole body posture seems confusing).

Keep practicing.
Strawberry
Ya ya, hands are the hardest thing for anyone to draw - so I've heard. So I can imagine why I can't draw them whatsoever. ^^;

That colored pictured was all forms of messed up. Not sure why I bothered attempting it in the first place. O_oa

I'll keep practicing 'til the day I die, good sir! Let's see if that works. XD
Ratty524
It's not bad to attempt anything, so long as you learn from your mistakes and keep trying. Pushing yourself is key to being a successful artist.
bacon
I am glad you poofed down the hair!

Strawberry you are getting a lot better you just keep on working!
You got this~
You work on those hands and you will be a hand master
and then nothing will stand in your way!

(also i think you are better than star!)
(o;)
(You better not disagree with me either missy because you are)
Strawberry
@ Ratty - You're right! I must keep practicing! Then I'll become good!

@ Bacon - Awwwwww. You made me smile. The main thing Star's got on me is anatomy and hands. Especially hands. D=

More sketched artwork on line paper. XD

A little girl. D=

Same girl, but older. O_oa
Strawberry
I drew the same girl again. I think I like her too much. XD I tried to draw her hands this time. Yeah. >>

Sorry about the anime-esque face. I couldn't make her look cute using realism. sad.gif

X-M-O
Does that mean girls aren't cute in reality? D=
How insulting! wink.gif

Nah, I know what you meant, lol.
Anyway, the hands are looking good - bit more practice, but they're much better than I can do. ^^
Zortik
Strawberry, I really like how you draw clothes. happy.gif, They flow with the form very well and don't have that 'flat' look like they're part of the body and not actual clothing.
Homunculus
I'm impressed smile.gif I'm going to say what's already been said, but you're VERY good with faces, especially the profile. Profile's are the hardest thing to draw you know. I still struggle with them after like lol 18 years of drawing. Your style in certain pictures reminds me a lot that of the artist that did shit for Xenogears and those games. Mainly in the shape of the face, eyes, mouth and... Hair... So, I guess everything LOL.

Do you mind if I ask how you go about drawing a picture? Like where and how do you start? If that makes any sense. Do you do a sketch first? Or do you just have at 'er?
Strawberry
Thank X. XD I'm gonna call you "X" from now on.

Yeah, I've been told I can do clothes very well. ^^ But um, why did you post your pictures in my thread? O_oa Did you want me to comment on them? Truth be told, I'm an amateur, so I don't really know how to comment on other people's work. sad.gif

Now I don't know who Homunculus is talking to. Either me or Zortik. O_oa

If it's me, I always start with the face. O_oa I usually look at another picture, copy the pose, and draw my own characters. XD

I might have more later if I can get out if this depressive slump...
X-M-O
Yeah, Homu was talking to you. happy.gif

Zortik, you should post your own topic for art and ask for critique there (if you're searching for it) and then ask Strawberry to check it out if you were wanting specific critique from her.
Posting artwork in someone else's art topic isn't permitted (unless it was specifically requested by the person who started this art topic).
While we love to see your art, you'll need to have your own topic to display it, or to ask for critique on it. Thanks. =]

Honest mistake actually. I started on the second page instead of the first and made a wrong assumption that this was a generic artwork thread because of the topic name! I'm gonna edit my post actually to remove the pictures but leave my commentary about her clothing. smile.gif

I never meant to take away from your thread strawberry, :3. I should refrain from posting things so very early in the morning and after being at work for almost 11 hours. I don't draw nearly enough to justify starting my own art thread, which is why I took the random stab at what I thought was a generic topic.
X-M-O
No worries, we all make mistakes. happy.gif

And hey, any amount of artwork that you've put effort into is justification to start your own art topic. wink.gif
Zortik
Also Strawberry, while I'm certainly no artist. I could say that your hands are a bit too round, which could be what is throwing off the perspective. You have a great grasp for keeping things to it's proper scale and your own style is quite endearing. Just remember that when you're making hands your palm should not really stick out further than the base knuckle on the pinky finger. After you get the base dimensions right then I'm sure you'll be able to nail the details as well as you do clothes!
Strawberry
Haha, it's okay guys! I've been told clothing and faces are my strong suit in art. XD Hands and proportions, not so much. sad.gif

Here's me practicing realism. I don't like her shoulders or the top of her head, but eh.

X-M-O
Wow, it's brilliant! ^^
The eyes, lips, and neck are especially nice. =D
(Those are the important things I look for in a profile anyway, lol.)
Redd
Wow, you are a VERY good artist Strawberry smile.gif

P.S. elf ears aren't real wink.gif
Strawberry
No, no they're not. But I was referring to drawing style, anyhoo.

All I draw are girls (they're cute and I'm extremely biased), so I dubbed today until next Friday - DRAW MALES WEEK! YAY.

To begin, I drew two males. ^^

Here's this guy. I don't know, I don't really like it. Not because it's realism, but because I think his hair blows (it's supposed to be messy and unkempt....) and I can't draw hair at like ALL. Gah...

Then I drew the most random modern, male character ever. He's so generic, eh. It's not realism, but whatever. I like this one better than the other one, for some reason. Maybe because it's simple. I dunno.

X-M-O
Nice work. =D
Especially since you don't draw males much.

I agree though, the second one looks better (and you did really well with his hair versus the first one). =]
Nanashi
Amazing how you improve on areas you had trouble with and in general. I like the girl you draw a lot also, and the elf lady. She's great looking, even the curls are perfect~ Where do you get your ideas for outfits? You don't show any problems with how they have the right flow or thickness.
Strawberry
Hehe, thanks. XD I'm glad you like those two girls. One is for my game, the other for a novel...

I kind of have some inspiration from games/movies/shows for outfits, but I create something entirely different. o.o

Changed up the last guy a little bit... Nothing new...

Nanashi
That's a nice improvement! His outfit suits him smile.gif

Games and novels, I see~ Do you think that you will post any of that work? There is not enough literary arte here and even fewer that will read it but those that do will greatly appreciate it. Me, included! biggrin.gif

Do the game and novel tie in together?
Strawberry
The short story I'm writing is tied into the game (it's a prequel), but the novel is entirely different. I could post my short story here, actually if people wish to read it. I'm not that good, though. o.o But yeah. I'll post what I write. ^^

But thanks. biggrin.gif
Nanashi
Of course I'd like to read it smile.gif I look forward to seeing both's story and art~ Keep doing a wonderful job!
Strawberry
I posted my story up - but I'm no writer. XD

Two characters from my game, Ghost Shards: Requiem - Kyran and Aelina.

Big picture. sad.gif

A girl I drew. I was supposed to draw doods this week, but I couldn't find any good references at like, all. ;_;

Nanashi
Both of those pictures are awesome! I'll take a peek at your story, too. Keep up the great work~
X-M-O
For good male references, go with Orlando Bloom (he's an easy face to draw, in example).

Also, as just a suggestion due to your style of art, I think you should try drawing Dorothy (from The Wizard of Oz) and also try drawing Pippi Longstocking (they've got pig tails and freckles). =]
Strawberry
I like Orlando Bloom. :X I should attempt to draw him. XD

Haha, I could draw them too. I've always wanted to draw Little Red Riding Hood. ^^

A girl (same from an earlier post). Hopefully she's going to be a character in a future project I forsee. Lols.

X-M-O
Nice detail, she's looking good.
Might I suggest you use more of the paper to draw her? It appears as if you've scrunched her up a bit. (Makes her look somewhat tense, but could also be used to make her appear shy, though she looks more as if she's stuck between two walls... shyly...) wink.gif
Basically, just need to relax her shoulders a bit. ^^
Strawberry
I ended up relaxing her shoulders. XD

Some poorly made pixel work by me. biggrin.gif

She is a character on reserve 'til a new project is born. Same character as above. ^^
X-M-O
Hey, that's really good. D=
Very nicely done, I hope to see the project when it comes out. happy.gif
Strawberry
Me too! I know nothing of it, just making a reserve character.

And she appears, again!

More doodles from me!? NO WAI. Yes, a girl again. I just like drawing chicks and I have no doods to draw. ;_;
