Sai should be only about 65$, so it's not too expensive. o.o
Besides, it has a lot of benefits, and considering that photoshop is like 500$+, it's not that bad. It offers vectors, advanced brush modifications of basically anything (including quality, style, textures, density, etc...), and auto- smoothing.
GIMP isn't that bad though, either.
And maybe you can find a discount tablet online/ have some nearby friends split the cost w/ you and all share the tablet? Or if he doesn't use it much, ask if you can buy it off of him.
Also, wow, are most/ all of your apps breaking down? Maybe you should invest in getting a new computer or something. O.O GIMP used to not work for me either though.

I do not have a job, how am I supposed to have the money to save up for such nice things?
Even I do get a job, I'll be using my money to visit my family up north, whom I have not seen in nearly 2.5 years.
I either try to get GIMP to work, or I just work on pencil art for the rest of my life.

I only had a summer job for 2 months last year, and managed to save up $2000. o.o
If the tablet price is an issue btw, yea, see if you can find a cheap one online. You should be able to find one that's approx. 300$ or even 100$ - 200$. And then you can just try to split the cost with people who you know-- if you can get just 10 people for example, that'd only be 30$. :-$
If you go for an older model, like a graphite, you could prolly get away with paying 60$ for a used, small one. $449 was about how much I paid for a medium intuos 4, when it was pretty new too.
Also, nothing wrong with pencil art. :]]] but try reinstalling gimp. Or cleaning out your registry, or checking if it's shortcut is right, or downloading another/newer version. Does anything pop-up when you start gimp?

Actually, Monoprice tablets work pretty well and they only cost $30-50 (:
i use a monoprice for my digital art.

I would at least like to get GIMP working, though...

You are amazing with pixel art!

I think her breasts are way too big, but the pixel shading and colours are great (and the eyes and ears are cute, but the hair style is fantastic). ^^

You can say that because you aren't wearing them.

I'm just saying that it is unnaturally large when you consider that her actual body size is quite small.
(Of course guys wouldn't see that as a problem, lol.)

Aug 21 2012, 04:10 AM
Well, technically she is slightly chubby. XD
The pixel art is inaccurate of her body size by a long shot. >>;;
I may have overboard on her chest, but to me... Corinne isn't Corinne without a nice bosom.

EDIT:
Pixel art of Corinne - might have to alter her name, though...

Another amazing piece! ^^
Yeah, it's sometimes difficult to get proportions correct on pixel art (especially when it has to fit a certain size to work in a game, etc.). =]

For the one before it though, maybe darken the lines of the skin a little bit more. And maybe move her left boob up a little bit?..
I really enjoy looking at your pixel art. : )

The form of the sprite itself isn't bad, but I think the choices for skin color needs to be tweaked a bit. The darkest lines don't really contrast enough with the rest of the skin colors. On the other hand, I like what you did with the color of the green-hat kid, could you do something similar with this?

Those trees are okay... I guess. I like pudding anyways. For now, just try hatching in an outline with a darker hue for the leaves that would be shadowed. It usually does the trick.

It's not very good and it needs a lot of reformatting, but here's my idea...
Aether, a mysterious substance in the air, is a primal source of the universe – and only when it is condensed, will one be able to see it. The stars in the sky are such an example, as they are purely made of Aether.
Every so often, a shooting star is spotted in the night sky, as it quickly lands onto the surface of the planet. Most of the time, a ball of Aether will be in its place, but rarely, a seemingly mortal-like child will be there - a being made of Aether and flesh...
Floating above the earth, is a large, swirly black mass. From it, monsters called Voidspawn are created, causing terror.
~The main character, Corinne (the girl I've drawn/pixeld) is a star and she must make a great decision near the end of the story...
~I'm not sure how mortals use Aether to use magic, yet.
~The world has no name yet
~I need help ._.

You making a pretty nice art, if you ask me

But i assume you have problem with coloring? Maybe i can help you with it?
- There is very easy way to do so. I have discovered this way trough years of trial and error. What you might want to do is to download Adobe Flash (You can download
Adobe Flash Portable absolutely legally free)
- Import your sketch on default layer.
- Create another layer above your sketch's
- Block layer with your sketch (press padlock button)
- Use
"line" tool to trace your sketch's contours. You can bend your line any way you want with
"selection" tool. Also you can freely chose size of your line. If you need to change line's color, size ect. use
"Ink Bottle" tool
- After finishing making contour, fill it with color. Flash's filling is MUCH MORE CONVINIENT than photoshop's
- Export image and finish it in photoshop or whatever
If you need shadows:- Create a layer above layer with contour and filling
- Chose line tool again, set some contrast color (i using bright red or acid green) and make contours on shadows.
- Re-select that layer so all contours you made shall be highlighted. Copy it.
- Past it in layer with main pocture (NOT sketch)
- Select last layer again and press "delete"
- Fill shadows
- To delete shadow's contours, just click on 'em twice and press "delete" button
Voila

Try it. It is much easier, funnier and faster than your coloring. I am turning my sketches in pics for maximim of 2 hours
And keep drawing! You're good at it!
Sincirely yours
