My short playthrough of the demo (I actually own the full game now)

http://www.carpefulgur.com/recettear/downloads.htm

This is a game where you play as an RPG item shop owner, Recette, and have to try to sell items to people. For example, an old guy might come in and ask for a Helmet for his daughter. Then you'd have to set the price so he can buy it. You'll want to not charge too much or else they'll leave, but you need to make the deadline. As you sell stuff to people and do well, then you can get your merchant level up which allows you to either buy better stuff, change wallpapers, or even expand the store.

Much like this.

Then you can also go out into the dungeons with an adventurer. The adventurer will do the fighting in the dungeon, you just stick around so you can get some items. If you die, you get kicked out of the dungeon and only able to bring 1 item back, so be careful in there. It's an action RPG system.

It has a nice bit of humor, cute art style and was quite fun to play.
Anyone else play this?

I played the demo but haven't gotten around to playing the full game yet. Was quite fun, even though i found it rather frustrating when some NPCs came to shop and actually hoped to buy stuff from me by less than 100% of it's base price, and then they got mad at me when i refused to drop the price. I swear, if i had an option an punch the customer in the face...

Ahaha. Well some NPCs are introduced later so they'll have a lower amount of cash than the ones you're used to. When they have a heart by their name, that means they have more cash available. But yeah, some NPCs just pay more for things than others.
(From what I hear, not sure if it's true, but the more money the little girl has, the more she's willing to spend on cheaper items like candies so she can actually be very good for cheaper items. But I haven't tested it myself)

And some adventurers equip the new item they buy, so sometimes it can be good to sell them for a bit less.

You'll haaate the scammer girl though. Everyone does. She never buys from you, only tries to sell you at 5x the base price.

I played the demo and then bought the game. A very rare event I could say, because I tend to pirate a lot (I know it's wrong, you don't need to remind me). I still have to play it in full because of other things to do, but the little I played really entertained me.

Too bad Harry will never play this because "lol anime looks all the same", it's really fun. And cute too.

Heh (reminds me of Dale a bit...)...

No, I haven't tried this yet -- but this does look cute and interesting! I suppose I could give it a shot over the weekend or something. biggrin.gif

PS: Can you throw retarded customers that want to send money by the Western Union out of the store in this game? Or should I look elsewhere? biggrin.gif

I bought this game last christmas on steam in an indie package sale (5 Indie titles for $5) and I was playing it non-stop for like 8 hours. I haven't played it since then though as other games came in my way. It's a very cute and relaxing game.

My roommate got this game way back when it was released. I've seen quite a bit of it and really liked what I saw.

Capitalism ho!!

I did comment on the game way, way back...

And my opinion is unchanged, even though I've already beaten it. Such a fun, easy to pick up and play whenever you want title. Like, I want to say it's casual, but even so, that doesn't change my opinion of it, which is usually a rarity for me. Actually, I oughta reinstall it on Steam and go through it on another mode at some point. Glad you discovered and like it!

Ah didn't see that topic there! Yeah it is a fun game. I haven't beaten the game yet, I got stuck on a boss that I can't avoid their attacks. I could if I were the dagger girl but I've only been levelling the default guy. I think it's the demon guy but I forget.

The other thing I don't like is I get better stuff at the merchants guild and market than I do at the dungeons. I get mostly junk there. FOUND SLIME FLUID +1! I guess the later dungeons will give better stuff, I dunno.

The demon dude is indeed a pain. Try fighting him with Caillou sometime (You literally have to use the invincibility frames at the start of his attacks to avoid getting hit, it's the only way... and you've only got the HP to take one hit at most).

I need to get back to this game, really, I do. I needed to find the spear chick in dungeons a couple more times to finish unlocking her so I could move onto the 100-floor dungeon though.

I've only played through the demo on this game, it was pretty interesting but I didn't get to do much with it so I didn't buy it.
However, based on the input I'm seeing in this topic, I may have to go and get it. =]

It is on steam for $5 now!

Definitely buying it for that price! =]
I enjoyed the demo enough to get it for 5 USD - not to mention there is much I haven't done in the game that the demo doesn't allow me to do. =D
