Full Version: Music dilemma

Hi I'm on my way to creating my first 10 hour experimental game before moving on to the real thing. Because as we all know it's best to start simple right? I could get my artistic skills good enough to supply myself with my own graphics faces and battlers(which I'm currently working on). The scripts and all are another problem that I'll SOMEHOW pull through. So as the topic title says, I want to talk about the trouble of where to get my music.

Let's just say I have project 1 and project 2 right? Project 1 is the experimental game mainly for practicing while project 2 is the big thing. I only have a limited set of songs from other games I'd like to use in either project and it would be redundant to have both games with the same soundtrack.

My original plan was to use the said set of songs for project 1 and once it gets popular I'll recruit composer to make a soundtrack for my next project. But from research I found that my games would be made to be thrilling not popular. So I still won't be able to find a music composer.

Sigh I'm not being that coherent am I? I'm confusing myself. Anyways, anyone who understood what I just said, what should I do? Where should I get my music for either projects?

Just go to Newgrounds or elsewhere and get some music. It's free, not heard by many before, and it'll be more original.

So is your problem that you can't find a composer, or that you can't afford one?

There is tons of free music all over the internet! Even this site! Most RPG Maker related sites have tons and tons of free music that you can use!

I agree about the many sources of music that is original and/or not part of some popular game:

slyph.org is one example. Unless you are trying to eventually take your game commercially or want something completely original, in which case a composer would definitely be nice, but not sure where to go about recruiting and/or hiring one.
