I'm going to revive an old project of mine, and I'd like to know which version of RPG Maker would be best to use, based on what types of scripts are already available.

The main thing I want is a journal/quest log that already does, or can be adapted to, advance time in the game world. Events will or will not happen based on what the player has done before triggering the time advancement (the advancements would be tied to quests in the main storyline).

I also want an attribute system similar to Fallout, in that the stats are mostly unchanging, and possibly have skills that rise with use. I can deal with the standard attributes in the system, but if it's easy enough to add a few more that'll also work for monsters, I'd like some expansion. I've done all this before, sloppily, but right now I'm just trying to figure out which version will handle these better, and which one has more stuff put out by the awesome community that'll help me.

Both programs can fit judging by your descriptions. I think the best way is simply to try by yourself.
Here is the list of scripts availables for VX on this site: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=45637.
The same list, but for XP: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=25015.

Experiment a bit with what is available and see what is easier for you. I'll move the thread to General Game Engines discussion, since it's not really a VX support topic.

Ah, thank you. I couldn't decide which one to put it in, after reading all the descriptions. I obviously missed this one. I was in a hurry and using my phone at work.

Yeah, I planned on looking through the scripts (after all, it's been over a year since I registered and not much less since I last looked) when I got home. Now I'm home, and I'll do so.
