Full Version: The Rapture

It's projected quite a bit of hype where I live.

Supposedly we will experience a rapture at 6PM (New Zealand time, approximately 15 minutes from now).

Said rapture will start in New Zealand and spread, followed by Earth's imminent destruction.

What do you guys' think?

I think its rubbish.

No one's going anywhere~ All the same, enjoy the show!

Sadness unto biblical misconceptions...sad.gif
Fat Panda
I heard it was a rapture/earthquake and the world's destruction would occur 6 months later? Either way, its a tad odd.
X-M-O
It's sad how people will take their religion and make it fit to their own ideas of what they think it should be.

Aside from that, it is also a ridiculous notion to assume that the Earth will be destroyed simply because someone thinks that it will be.

The future is uncertain, yes, but of this I am certain; the Earth will not end today or tomorrow or any determinable date in the future.
darkyoshi
I see it as a big joke to laugh at, nothing more. It's been the source of a few elohel's today. smile.gif
Nanashi
I agree with X-M-O. No one will know the day or the time. If the Rapture was supposed to be secret in the first, how is it that we know about it? Those who believe in it defeated their own devices before they even began. It is terrible to be so fallible that the world must bend they way we wish it...

Posting from heaven.

You guys are missing out. We're about to start marathoning the second season of Firefly.
Nanashi
That's not funny, lol! I am sure there are those that have put all they have into the hopes of the event occurring. Besides, if Heaven had television, I'd have to ask the difference between here and there is. A tax-free society is something to think about:)

Hmmmm...

...It's 1:32 A.M. over here and still no 'Rapture.' I guess it starts sometime in the morning on the west coast...or is that...in the evening on the west coast?

This, and the dubious 2012 prediction, just makes me do a double facepalm whenever I hear these religious types say 'That the end of the world is comin'! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!' But...we can't all die, yet! The Canucks might actually DO something this year!!!

People can believe what they want to believe, but there is no set timetable for the end of the world; we're just gonna have to wait and find out when it happens.

“Damn, no ‘Rapture’ today? Guess it’s back to church on Sunday, then! biggrin.gif

Hah, posting from planet Earth over here... the minute that these people were serious about this rapture thing, I just had to do this...

... and this.

The Rapture is just another crazy misinterpretation of the 2nd coming of Jesus. It's really a shame, how some of these Christians think they have "figured out" the exact day... that's never gonna happen, it's written explicitly that no one in the world will ever know "the exact day" of the "2nd coming", there are only clues... such as war, famine and all of these crazy acts going on in the world.

Anyways, with all the facepalm joking aside, it's really sad also to see how many people lost their businesses, their jobs and many things because of this faulty idea... if this is only the rapture, I can't imagine how much people will lose when 2012 comes, since it's around the corner haha... but that'll be another topic. I should start blogging again, and talk about these absurdities.

As everyone else, I'm still here too, which I kind of guessed.
Given my lifestyle, I'm sure I'd be one of the last on God's list to be taken to Heaven~ (with the exception of murderers and stuff like that).

I actually heard while listening to the radio this morning that the man who predicted this, Harold Camping, said a massive earthquake would strike New Zealand at 6PM (NZ local time, which is about 1AM US central time), which would be felt all over the world, and at the same time the rapture would occur. First in New Zealand (convenient, eh?), then the rest of the world. The next few months following the world would be thrown into chaos until the end in October.

When I heard this, I laughed so hard I almost drove off the side of the road. To think that this guy thought he was right, it's ridiculous. Even the people at the churches up the road were like STFU! And to make things even more laughable, people here decided to mock those who took this so seriously and drove around early in the morning leaving unwanted outfits on the sidewalks and in some stores. I'm sure people are going to be rather pissed about the whole thing.

My concern, as always, has never been about the End of the World and the Rapture, it's been about it's effect on people. According to some lady who commented on Camping's prediction, crime rates increase when people think the end is near. Suicide and homicide rates go up drastically, according to said lady. Now, whether this is true or not is up to speculation, but it makes sense. Kind of like how things go a little crazy when governments go kaput, or natural disasters tear places to pieces. People go nuts.

I don't like the idea of people killing themselves or others over a stupid prediction. And if that did happen, I think Camping should be held responsible, though the latter is incredibly unlikely.

Damn, looks like I missed out. And I was so close I tell ya! It was weird. I was beginning to feel light headed, and my body started to tingle. I swear I was floating upwards. Either that or it was tequila I drank last night. Anyways, suddenly this voice sounding like thunder roared out of the sky: "Oops! Wrong guy!" And then I was tossed back down to earth.

Ah well, looks like I now have time for more RM gaming!
nichodo
Well its 7:00 here in Georgia and i'm still here to talk with you.

Hahaha! Lol! Well have fun!

And to listen to One Winged Angel.
LiberalElephant
I'm still here in Madison and kicking ass.

Harold Camping was the same guy that said Jesus would come back in '88, am I right? And to think his little cult has gotten mass-media attention... Wow.
Darkblade
I hope The Rapture doesn't become a holiday thing.
Birthdays and Christmas are already disappointing.

But seriously, it was pretty lousy of this guy to claim the Rapture was going to happen.
But well, I can't wait to read the guy's excuse even if it is "Our praying saved us all."

Surely he can't be wrong a 3rd time?

Speaking of the failed ‘Judgement Day’ on his radio show last night, he claimed that 21 May 2011 was just an ‘invisible judgement day’ and that he understood it as a spiritual, rather than physical event.

Yeah and stuff.
That invisible rapture... didn't even know what hit me.
I'm gonna have to get some special vision goggles... maybe I can spot the next one...
Heck, maybe it will turn into the next train watching.
Invisible Judgement Day Watching... maybe I'm onto something.

Unfortunatly, from the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like he has very good faith.
He dissapointed me.
