Full Version: How's this for an optional super boss?

He's this enigmatic being who has about 100000 HP. At the beginning of the battle he'll cast a barrier around himself so that none of your attacks can have effect on him. Not only that, he'll counter with 1300 damage while the barrier is on. At this phase his moves include either absorbing 1000 damage or putting your characters to sleep. If he was to put your characters to sleep however he'll use his next turn to split his barrier into four fire wisps, leaving him defensless. After that, those fire wisps will self destruct on you with their next turn dealing about 800 damage each. Then once the boss is barrierless with no more fire wisps he'll just conjure up his barrier and go through the same process all over again.

So how does that super boss sound?

So...

You can't do anything until he puts you to sleep, in which you are unable to do anything until you wake. Then his barrier goes down while you're asleep and he'll get a free hit on you then put his barrier up, in which you are again unable to do anything.

There's no real strategy here other than "Take stuff that prevents sleep" and wait it out. That sounds annoying at best.

If you want to make gimmicky bosses, you might want to study your game mechanics. What could benefit the player (and the enemy) with said mechanics.
Titanhex
Your boss doesn't sound that hard if I have a hero that does 120,000 damage with his limit break and has 59000 hitpoints.

What Nessiah said was right. Study the game mechanics. There's a great thread buried around here with a huge list of very well thought out boss battles. The mechanics may include Real Time Battle vs Active Wait Battle vs Turn Based Battle. Each one would make your battle a little different in terms of strategy.

You can only equip one accessory at a time. Which would you prefer? prevent sleep or 100+ magic? Plus there's more strategy like putting the fire wisps to sleep which allows you free hits on the boss.

If you can't fall asleep, the boss will never split his barrier, as your explanation says "if he was to put your characters to sleep". So if you prevented sleep, it doesn't seem like you'd be able to hurt the boss.

Anyway, there's no point in giving us arbitrary numbers. They don't mean anything to us.

Sorry my bad tongue.gif . I tried to say that his pattern is splitting his barrier on the turn after he casts sleep. Didn't think I'd make that mistake.

Oh and I just thought the numbers are a better choice than saying this move does average damage or this one does a lot of damage but this attack does way more damage. You know.
