Well, I know this sounds weird, but I'm a little paranoid about people going on my computer, snooping around, and looking at my files, so I just wrote some of the story to my project and some dialog, and was wondering is there was a way I could make it so it could be easily passed over, going unnoticed, so I saved my .txt file as 36x.dll which, if someone sees it, they assume it's a .dll file, but it's only in disguise, when you want to edit or read it, rename it 36x.txt and then you can open and do whatever you want to it.
Sorry if this is a little non-rpg maker related, but it was intended to help people write storys and such, so it's half-half.
Hope this helps someone, even if it is that one paranoid person.
.dll won't actually work, just an example, use something else like .dat and choose all files under the save as drop down box.

if your really that paranoid about it, put it in a folder, .zip it, and add a password. you may need 7-zip for that, but it's free.

I've never tried this but you may want to try right clicking the document, going to Properties, and checking the 'Hidden' box.

The hidden trick works well

I use it when I write things

I do get quite paranoid too lol
Also if you use Microsoft Word you can protect the document with the password, that is what I would do!!! and then just to ensure safety I hide it hahahahahaha

I wouldnt say the hidden trick is all that good a trick cause you only need to press Ctrl and A (Select all) and if your on the folder with the hidden files then windows will tell you that you have hidden files and even tells you how you can view them.
Tools>>Folder options, etc, etc lol
Anyway, I don't think its strange to not want anyone to see your writings or anything like that as there from your personal space and should be kept this way until you decide they should be viewed or never see the light of day again.

I never knew that, but then that would arouse suspicion in some people, and they could potentially guess the password.

Open an image in Notepad, and add all of your writing below the image data. It can't be viewed that way unless someone else opens it.
There are several other hiding options as well, such as renaming the file to have a different file extension.
Also, I think this very well may be my first post, unless I used this board a long time ago...

Moving this into General Discussion as this isn't a Tutorial at all.

If someone snooped your PC I doubt they would go after your game's story. At least not before getting more important things :S

It's a none issue for me.
Scenario 1: They somehow get past your security measures and read your story... Well it was destined for public viewing anyway so it's good that someone reads it, you may even get feedback.
Scenario 2: They somehow get past your security measures and read your story. They steal it for themselves, unfortunately the entertainment is so vigorous that it undergoes constant re-writes and it is quickly established that they didn't write it.
Scenario 3: They don't give a damn.
All my stories and games are neatly stored away in folders, that are categorized, sometimes numbered, and often contain possible plot points. I then bounce these ideas off friends and family. I'm not scared of criticism - and I know no one's going to steal my ideas - so I just don't see the problem.

For the record, if you are
really paranoid about someone checking out stuff that you don't want anyone to see (yet), neither renaming, nor zipping with password, not "hiding" are a good idea. So don't do that!
Do it like the big boys instead. Get
Truecrypt and create an encrypted container. It is open source, not too hard to handle, and this is the
most secure method of locking away something on your computer that you can come up with. I've been using it for some time now, and it really is a relief to know there is nothing to be found when someone "accidentally" browses my computer.

You could make an account to the Computer for only your use and lock it that way, I believe.

May I ask why you are paranoid about it, if you know why? Aren't you going to be publishing your game out for everyone to play? If so, why hide it from your family?
