I've got an idea for an RP I might consider starting soonish.

But, it involves super powers.

Problem is, I'd rather not have ultimate powers being thrown around.
Maybe it would be worth knowing that only 3 powers are allowed for each character.
I've decided to scratch off:
Body control
Immortality
Power stealing
Mind reading
Time manipulation


To be honest, I'm sure most of you (who would be interested in joining) know the kind of game breaking ones and would probably not choose them out of being a cool person.
But I'm sure there are people like me, who aren't collectors and huge fans of Super Hero type stuff.
I watched heroes and enjoyed that a lot...
On that note, maybe committing mass 'Sylar's' should be forbidden. XD

So yeah, please give me some idea of what super hero powers you think would be suitable for an RP
Or maybe just the unsuitable ones.

I think what you have to bear in mind is that most 'super powers' are actually MULTIPLE powers rolled into one.

Super Speed = Heat resistant (or friction resistant) body, Increased Muscle strength (not size), and Increased reaction time. (among other things)
While Time Travel = ability to bend physical laws and properties (like light and gravity) manipulating ones own biological clock, ability to disrupt causality (and many more).

When you break them down like this it's easier to see what is and isn't godmodding. Being superhuman is okay, but being able to change the very laws of nature itself might be too much.
A good idea would be to break powers down into some sub powers and then classify them.

I think a good way to work them out i to have the "stronger" super powers have more flaws in them. Those with super strength are going to break stuff more often, those with overly genius over thinking minds, have a high chance of being unsatisfied. Element based powers clearly have weakness to other elements. ect. and for the less typical ones, they could just be more creative.

So I guess I can't exactly put a limit then on how many powers each person can have.
Maybe just a single Main power and the sub powers directly related to it.

Making a list of fair to use powers is a lot harder than I thought.
I can't imagine the possible RP going well.

Also, I won't join an RP anyway, but try making a 4lolz superhero RP where everyone plays the part of a bumbling hero who makes bad things happen inadvertantly with his powers. Super Strength? Oops I crushed a car. Etc etc.

Thank You for your input Klok, But from the veiw of someone who would probably be in the rp, that is a bad idea. When roleplaying, going "4Lolz" usually gets a couple good chuckles, but ends fairly quickly due to it having no point.

I just had a little brainwave about this. but I have a driving lesson in five minutes so no time to go into too much detail. Basically in written 'super hero' films or general stories, powers trump others powers.
It could be as simple as listing a power, and a weakness, and then leaving it to you to decide whether it's fair or not.

For example, anyone that uses projectile attacks (fireballs and the like) is pretty much useless against a teleporter.
Likewise, a teleporter is useless against someone with super strength or super speed, as they can't act upon their advantage.
A teleporter can be stopped out right by someone with psychokinesis
but that person could be stopped by someone with super strength quite easily.
And super strength is generally pretty useless against someone with projectile attacks.
But a projectile attack is useless against super speed.

Maybe it would be a good idea to use factions, just two or three teams, and let them cooperate to take each other down. So long as everyone has a weakness, there's no god-modding

Also, it might be a good idea to keep things in check with physics (energy cannot be created or destroyed) so if you teleport half way across the world, it'll be as exhausting as having just walked that distance. Casting a barrage of fireballs leaves you a bit peckish, and being super strong means a constant upkeep on the calories.
Basically super heroes have to hit McDonalds at least four times a day
