Although it's illegal, you won't get into trouble from the forum. It's generally accepted.

probably not, as long as you give credit and not try to sell it. then you should be ok, shin.

Thats what i was thinking!

I am gonna make two versions of my game now and one will have a manic mansion cd player feature in it. Let the head bouncing begin.

Thank you for both for the nice and friendly replies.

You should try to avoid putting commercial music in your game even if it is free. Technically, putting copyrighted music in the game is illegal because you are distributing stolen material on your game. It's very unlikely, but if a copyright holder ever finds their work in your game, they may persue legal action. It's always better to put custom music in your game anyway - it sounds more original, having battle music etc that people have not heard before, rather than the soundtrack of a Final Fantasy game. Gives your game its own distinct feel.
You should check out the Newgrounds Audio Portal for some original, high quality music. There's thousands of tracks to choose from!

Just because it's not for profit doesn't make the reproduction of commercialized music illegal, it just means that people are LESS likely to care. It's even less likely if the game does not get a huge distribution. On the other hand, Marvel Brothel got hit with a C&D order when it had around 8000 downloads, so there you go.
